There are many different pieces of literature throughout our past. Many of these stories follow the same archetype but there are still some that are very different. In all of literature, there are many novels who share the same qualities, but there is also a lot of diversity. The Count of Monte Cristo and The Life of Pi display the similar theme of loss of innocence; however, they undoubtedly have different characters, one being scheming and the other being spiritual, and they have varying writing styles throughout the novels. Both The Count of Monte Cristo and Life of Pi show many different themes throughout the book, such as … However, there is as theme that both of these novels share. That theme is loss of innocence. In each story, there was a similar theme displayed which was loss of innocence. Dantès thought his mission to murder all the bad men in his life was ok because he thought that what he was doing was innocent and justified. After the death of Edouard, Dantès started to realize what he was doing is actually wrong. Pi became the monster that he was originally scared after spending time alone and starving. On the other hand, these books had many differences. In The Count of Monte Cristo, Dantès becomes a manipulative man named Monte Cristo. In Life of Pi, Pi shows how religious and caring he is throughout his journeys. Dumas mostly wrote in a formal style which exhibits the tone of sadness in the story. Martel changed his writing style according to what he wants the reader to grasp. After analyzing only two books, there were many different ways discovered to create and enjoyable and interesting books. Not all books have to follow a certain archetype to be successful or interesting. There are many books that have many different themes, characters and their characterization, and writings
The stories bear minor similarities and differences that the setting influences the plot development by era and place, main characters backgrounds, and environment /time frame of stories.
Many books have shared values and themes but like A Separate Peace and The Kite Runner. They both share common themes and writing techniques. They share imagery, metaphors, sarcasm and irony. The spirit and mood of the book have similar ways they make the character grow and evolve. Both books have common techniques they use to let the character move on and grow to do something better and more hopeful with their lives. They both use friendship, warfare, and conflict of identity to help their characters grow.
First and foremost, the fiction and nonfiction aspect comes into play when talking about these two specific books.
I believe the theme of “Count of Monte Cristo” is don’t jump to conclusions because the protagonist, Edmond, jumps to conclusions about a noise he believed was an escaping prisoner. I know this because the text states, “Unfortunately, Edmond’s brain was still so feeble that he could not bend his thoughts to anything in particular, ” (Dumas, par. 11). This shows that Edmond was delirious and could have imagined the sound. He heard what he wanted to hear and instantly jumped to the conclusion that it was a prisoner who could help set him free. This shows the false reasoning behind conclusions and begins the developing of the theme. The author also develops the theme through the dark and dreary mood by using the insanity of Edmond to show the poor conditions of the prison. Dumas also wrote, "If it is a workman, I need but knock against the wall, and he will cease to work, ...
“The Real Story in Life of Pi The difference between fiction and reality is not always evident to those who are unable or unwilling to recognize the difference.”
As for differences, I came upon many that I think show how the authors might’ve felt about star crossed love, young love, or just love in general. The little details I picked at really do draw lines between the two stories and give them both different meaning.
Where the two authors are utilizing the same literary element, the presentation is remarkably different and produces a different feel in each story.
The two tales ¨The 100-foot journey¨ written by Richard C. Morais, and ¨The Alchemist” written by Paulo Coelho, are similar because both of the main characters change throughout the story due to events occurring in their lives that heavily affects them. Though the character’s development in the story may be similar, the way that both of the stories are presented is very disparate. First of all the stories are presented in different forms, ¨The 100 Foot Journey” is a movie and ¨The Alchemist” is a book. The stories are in different forms but they will still have the components necessary for a story. Comparing these components will show the differences between the similar idea stories of ¨The 100 Foot Journey¨ and ¨The Alchemist.
are the topics of the novels, the endings of the books, the nature of the characters, the way
The book and movie are completely different. It 's like comparing apples and oranges. (I 'm assuming that you used the newest version with Guy Pierce). The biggest difference is probably the ommision of Haydee and Maximillien and Valentine (three of the main character) and the addition of Jacapo. Jacapo does is in the book, but he is never a large character.
Many old books compose the classical literature, which still influence nowadays writers. Many people work studying books from classical literature and school also teach students how to interpret the classics. Some of the appreciated books are Don Quixote, The Odyssey, Animal Farm, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, The Hobbit and many others. When reading Don Quixote and The Odyssey, the reader notice that the books have many similarities developed throughout the stories, such as fighting for love, fighting monsters and being structured in non-linear plot; however, as the stories are developed, specific detail shows how one story differs from the other.
When you read a story,no matter if a short story or novel, you probably don't think that the stories you read are written similar or different from other stories by other authors. From the story to the writing style each piece of literature is its own independent piece. For example “The Lesson” By Toni Cade Bambara and “A Rose For Emily” By William Faulkner are two short stories written by two different authors.
First, I believe that much more was going on during the novel. Amongst the reading, there were many other ideas or thoughts behind the true meaning of the novel. I feel that the title, Life of Pi, is in a way very vague and unappealing. I think that in order to catch the attention of an individual you have to have something that will help cling the person into reading the book. Regarding the main idea of the novel I feel that the author could have named the story in a different way. In my opinion, most of the story was about Pi and Richard, and not just Pi. If the author would have hinted to the adventures of the novel in title I believe that more people would consider reading the story. In this time, most people are looking for a book that contains excitement and adventure, which is why I feel the way I feel. By just hinting to the idea of adventure I trust the fact that the novel would have been much more popular and
In the novel of Life of Pi narrated by Yann Martel, realism and suspension of disbelief play a huge role throughout the novel, especially the first story. The first story is telling about a young boy and a small group of animals trying to survive on a life boat. Which blurs the line in the telling of the second story. The second story is a very gruesome telling about a different side of Pi in which we see him as being ruthless. The verisimilitude combined with the suspension of disbelief in this fantastic allegory adds ambiguity and dualism.
Yann Martel’s Life of Pi explores the story of a young man lost at sea after the ship he and his family were aboard sunk. Throughout the book there are two “opposing” themes faith and human instinct. Pi being part of three religion makes faith and religion flow through book flawlessly. As he is aboard a boat with a Bengal tiger you can see him go from religious vegetarian to a savage animal. Pi slowly falls into his instinct and becomes more animal than man. The themes faith and instinct in the book seem to go against each other, but in fact they are intertwined. Faith and instinct are the two main themes of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi and through the book one can find that these two themes are connected.
