For this week's reflection assignment, I chose a video titled "Mood disorders: Major depressive disorder, and bipolar Type 1." I chose this video because several family members of mine have (had) depression, suicidal ideation, and a few others. The video was provided by way of youtube.com, and was uploaded on 14 Feb 15 by Stomp on Step 1. It features Brian McDaniel as the narrator of the video. The video begins with a stagnant introduction by Mr. McDaniel, and explains this video is covering the topic of mood disorders. The common definition of mood disorder is given, a collection of psychiatric conditions that involve a pervasive distortion of one's emotional state. He also notes that everyone has normal, periodic changes, and this common occurrence. What makes mood disorders is the extreme changes unrelated to a person's circumstances. There are more often then not a person will have a near normal affect in between manic episodes. A normal mood of neither positive or negative is known as euthymia (neutral). Mood can be classified as happy, or sad on the opposite spectrum. Mr. McDaniel has am inforgraph that shows the many stages of one's psyche. …show more content…
He goes on to explain just what depression is. From what he described with the numbering, designating the urgency of that category on the initial intake. I often get this when I go to the VA, and have to fill out questions with numerical responses. I give the form to the psychiatric professional, and they add the numbers up. Based of what those numbers are, we are often thought of being in such a state described by criteria. I'm not sure it is the exact same thing, but I can definitely relate to the way he is presenting it. It's kind of like the Glasgow coma scale for medics I
I am writing you in regards to my psychiatric evaluation of the above-named individual, conducted at Sweetwater Home Board and Care on November 5, 2012.
Many people go through a normal day and have their emotions fluctuate due to some sort of stimuli. It is quite normal for people to feel emotions like depression or elation because of certain situations or circumstances. It is when moods like depression or mania that affect people for a longer than normal period of time or when they constantly fluctuate between depression and mania that one may suffer from something called a mood disorder. Depression is a state of overwhelming sadness and a person’s outlook on general life is dark and foreboding as if nothing is right or will ever be right. Normally people can suffer
The videos “Therapeutic Communication”, “Effective Listening”, and “Nonverbal Communication” created by Indiana University have the agreement that interviewers need to possess effective communication skill needed to conduct a proper interview. Whether we are becoming a more depressed population or simply changing the standards by which we diagnose is an area of some controversy. What is certain is that the medical system is now processing and treating—with ever-changing cocktails of psychotherapy, support groups, and pharmaceuticals—20% more Americans every year than the year before. Depression—together with its aftermath—is a staggering epidemic sweeping the country, ravaging countless lives in its
In the video by Chaya Kulkarni Director Infant Health Promotion Hospitals for sick children elaborates on how poverty effects children’s development. Once the children are two years old their brain are fully developed. So if the parents are struggling and below the poverty line, then as soon as they are born they would sense it. That’s why the first few years with your child is so important, having a close bond with your child can effect the child in a positive way. A relationship can help the child develop a healthy brain and other muscles. She talked about how with poverty comes with stress which can lead to bigger and batter things. This is called, “toxic stress”. It can damage your brain, behavior and health. If the parents were to have
Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness. It is classified as a mood disorder and is characterized by severe mood swings between states of euphoric elation and depression. While everyone is happy and sad sometimes, the mood states of bipolar disorder are extreme. When manic, people with bipolar disorder may have delusions of grandeur, talk rapidly, and their attention will flit from one subject to another. A select few, although by no means all patients may become violent. When depressed, the patient may not want to get out of bed and feel he or she has no desire to live. 'Rapid cycling' is when patients cycle between these extremes much more quickly than the customary weeks or months.
Moods are a common part of everyday life. They fluctuate every second of the day. It is normal to be happy, depressed, content, or even excited depending on the events that happen in your day, and how you perceive these events. A mood disorder is recognized when moods become “impairing” and hard to cope with (Parker et al, 2012, p.419). People have extreme swings from extreme happiness to sadness. These moods cannot be controlled, causing them to react inappropriately to events that are happening in their lives. Mood disorders can cause a person to be unstable in certain aspects of their lives, causing a disruption in a person’s daily activities.
Antisocial personality disorder is defined as a mental disorder who habitually violate the rights of others without remorse. The criteria for APD are specified as observable behaviors such as failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors indicated by frequently performing acts that are grounds for arrest and or prosecution. Psychopathy is personality disorder with its narcissistic paranoid and borderline antisocial features. According to this week’s key concept video, they exhibit amoral and antisocial behavior, lack of the ability to love or establish meaningful and personal relationships, extreme egocentricity, failure to learn from experience, etc. Sociopathy was used to describe an extremely manipulative dangerous and high risk offender without conscious. Now they are being described as someone with a psychopathic personality, who’s behavior is antisocial often unlawful and who lacks a sense of mora responsibility or social consciousness.
This video completely changes my outlook on the effects of childhood trauma. We all know that a child’s development is extremely important, especially after taking this class. Doctor Nadine Burke-Harris points out that if a child experiences an abusive unloving environment or parents with substance abuse disorder than that child will grow up with a higher chance of health risks. The leading cause of deaths in the United States is high exposure to childhood trauma because the trauma puts you at a higher risk for certain health risks. I believe this knowledge would be most helpful for anyone who is going to potentially deal with traumatized child like a social worker or a therapist. I believe this information would help a social worker or a
There are many types of mental disorders, but not all of us know what they are. The first type is a mood disorder. Mood disorders are mental disturbances in one’s mood. Some of these are mania, depression and Bipolar disorder, which is a combination of both mania and depression. In mania you get extreme happiness and in depression you get extreme sadness. Furthermore, mania can cause rage and mumble of speech from being over active, and 15% of people with depression causes suicide. These can fluctuate on and off for each one.
Depressed mood, such as feeling sad, empty or tearful (in children and teens, depressed mood can appear as constant irritability)
Family Video in Arnold, Missouri is one of many locations in North America. They are the largest chain for movies and video game rentals in the United States. They have over seven hundred and fifty stores and it does not seem like they will be going anywhere soon. It all started with accidently getting an abundance of videos and the owner having the idea to rent them out to the customers. With Blockbuster, a former rival chain of Family Video, left in the dust, people wonder why it’s still up and running. When today’s society has Netflix, Hulu, and more ways to stream and to get movies without ever leaving your house, how has Family Video survived?
Mood disorders are a class of behavioral-emotional disorders labeled by disruption in mood. Examples of this are depression or extreme elation. Some people may experience periods of depression or elation but this doesn’t mean they have a mood disorder.
After viewing the videos, one factor that facilitated the inclusion of a person with visual impairments in activities is the courage, tenacity, and perseverance of one's own person, the family, and the community. An example of this can be seen on Aimee, the gymnast, who is deaf and blind on the right eye; because of her determination and her mother perseverance, Aimee found a coach who was willing to help her to exploit her talent despite her disability. Another consideration when providing leisure services for people with visual impairments, is to make adaptations to the activity and materials. Also, including people with visual impairment in the planning process makes sense and can benefit everyone.
I'm going to explain how to make your own music video you need a song and background music a dance and cute outfits and have some provider to sponsor the video.
