What it Takes To Survive It is important to find a way to survive when you get into a dangerous situation. Many people who find themselves in a dangerous situation where survival is of the utmost importance will find themselves using a wide array of skills to survive, but survival also lies in their traits as well. In many cases, these people will have to use the important traits of intelligence, resourcefulness, companionship, and patience to survive another day. To begin, the survival trait of intelligence is crucial in every survival situation. This survival trait is required to make optimal decisions for your survival and to plan ways to get out of the dangerous situation. Intelligence can also save you in many situations. Patience can help in situations where it is important to hide or if someone needs to time something just right. In the case of “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, patience is a key survival trait for Rainsford, who finds himself stranded on an ominous island after going overboard, and has to survive three nights while being hunted by the skilled General Zaroff. An example would be when General Zaroff is hunting Rainsford on the first night of hunting and soon approaches Rainsford who, "froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring" (Connell 33). Rainsford had to be patient and freeze there until General Zaroff gave up his search instead of attacking him because General Zaroff was armed. If Rainsford had gone out with his plan to spring on Zaroff, he would’ve surely been shot. To conclude, there are many useful traits that will help someone survive in a given situation, but in almost any situation of survival, it is important to have the traits of intelligence, resourcefulness, companionship, and patience in order to survive the worst
