Patience can help in situations where it is important to hide or if someone needs to time something just right. In the case of “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, patience is a key survival trait for Rainsford, who finds himself stranded on an ominous island after going overboard, and has to survive three nights while being hunted by the skilled General Zaroff. An example would be when General Zaroff is hunting Rainsford on the first night of hunting and soon approaches Rainsford who, "froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring" (Connell 33). Rainsford had to be patient and freeze there until General Zaroff gave up his search instead of attacking him because General Zaroff was armed. If Rainsford had gone out with his plan to spring on Zaroff, he would’ve surely been shot. To conclude, there are many useful traits that will help someone survive in a given situation, but in almost any situation of survival, it is important to have the traits of intelligence, resourcefulness, companionship, and patience in order to survive the worst

Having this skill, Resilience, is spectacular and it can save your life and someone else's. Resilience is a little weird, because it doesn't give a normal reaction to something uncertain but rather you stay the calm. An example, is when someone gets shot and we have the people over here freaking out and then you got maybe one or two people taking action and making sure the other people
Often a person would think only those with the most physical and mental strength are able to face a crisis calmly, well the truth about this schema isn't all that clear. Psychologist Kendra Cherry broke up the term resilience into seven different traits she believes allows people to cope with problems and setbacks. The true story "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, told the story of three men who were adrift at sea after surviving a horrendous plane crash. The story also showed how Louie Zamperini, the protagonist of this story, had great resilience and was able to survive for 47 days at sea. Richard Connell's short story "The Most Dangerous Game" is a spine-chilling tale that has many elements of Gothic literature. Some key elements of Gothic literature are wild nature, origins, hero/villain, and castles. Those are found throughout the story in various ways. For example, the gothic element of wild nature is evident even in the beginning of the story. When Rainsford and Whitney are sailing through the ocean on a yacht, Whitney spots something from a distance. Whitney states that what he sees is “Ship Trap Island” (25). He says this because he starts to get a weird feeling as they get closer and closer to the island, and he has heard many stories about how this island is creepy, and very dangerous. According to “What it Takes to Survive a Crisis” by Ben Sherwood, everybody has a survivor IQ, and it is how we react in situations of danger. “I discovered that everyone has a crisis personality – a Survivor IQ – that they marshal in a moment of adversity” (4). This is a significant piece of evidence because it shows that people with mental strength are better prepared for dangerous situations and can deal with them more efficiently. Even if they don't necessarily know the situation, they are going to be prepared for any eventuality. Secondly, having the right mindset can help us survive.
