The most Valuable Point in the book Animal Farm would be that power corrupts people. I believe this because of many incidents in the book where the people are and animals are being corrupted due to Napoleon's actions. One way that I know this is that Napoleon started out his ruling by over throwing Snowball. Napoleon had told the animals that the plans of the windmill were originally his when in reality they were Snowballs. He did this to gain popularity and respect by making Snowball look like the bad guy. In the book the animals are told that ¨All Animals are equal¨ when come to find out they really aren't. A way that we as the reader know that this is true is that the pigs are doing things against the commandments. As they do these illegal
Throughout the ending of the text, it’s shown that the pigs are becoming more human-like, adapting to more human-like nature, which was what they were attempting to get rid of in the first place. They change the commandments that were written to get rid of humans, making them more accepting for human behavior. “No animal shall sleep in a bed” is changed to “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets,” and “No animal shall drink alcohol” is changed to, “No animal shall drink alcohol to excess.” The pigs even convince the sheep to chant, “Four legs good, two legs better,” instead of, “Four legs good, two legs bad.” This shows how the pigs are slowly becoming more human, and adapting to more human behaviours. The quote, “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which,” also proves this point, showing how the pigs have become so human-like that it’s hard to tell the difference between the
The pigs abuse their higher power role throughout the novella to manipulate the animals in many ways, one being the commandments. They keep changing them to benefit themselves. “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets” ( Orwell 79). At first, the commandment stated that no animal shall sleep in a bed whatsoever, though the pigs find a way to maneuver around it to simply get what they want. The pigs convince the animals that because they are the brain-workers of the farm, they need to sleep comfortably. Without question, the animals proceed with their tasks, not even pondering if it is right or not. This shows the ascendancy and influence that the pigs have over the lower animals, and how easily it prevails upon that they are always right. In reality, this is conveyed in many different cases, for example how we as humans make the choice to follow certain rules and standards based on what kind of society we live in. If one human being does one thing, another will tend to follow. This is simply a natural habit.
"There was nothing there now except a single Commandment. It ran: ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS." The quote is saying that all animals are to be treated the same but some should be treated more than the same. Or animals are to be treated equally but some should be treated higher than the equal. This is foreshadowing to the events that will come.Clover read those words and she was reading it to the other animals. This is important to the story this shows that the pigs are completely in power and that they should be above all the other animals. This quote shows how the pigs became more and more like humans. They think they are the superior species among animals. Furthermore, they just threw away animals for
In chapter 2, when the 7 commandments were first written down, there was already a slight corruption in the pigs. The pigs steal the milk and apples and explain it with the lie that these foods have nutrients essential to pigs, which need these
and on page 141, the other animals can’t tell the difference between the pigs and the humans. “Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the face of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was
) This is ironic because the pigs use words to make it so that only they can sleep in a bed. At the end of the novel, one of the commandments “All animals are equal” (pg. 43) was changed to “ANIMALS ARE EQUAL/ BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS”. (pg. 133
I think that the author meant for the book to have the end to be a bit of a cliff hanger to get the readers to use their imaginations to fill in the holes. In the end the animals do not end up as equals. There is no equality between the animals, the power always lies in the hands of the pigs. The promise that was made in the beginning was that, all animals would be equal. At the beginning of chapter 10, Clover spotted something in the yard and all the animals came to join her. The animals saw Squealer walking on his hind legs. Soon after most of the pigs were walking on their legs too. Some better then others but all were able too. Soon after Benjamin and Clover discovered that there was only one commandant on the wall instead of seven. It read: " ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS." This mean that most of the animals are equal but the pigs will always have more power and rights. The last sentence in the book is " The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which." These pigs in the book have become humans and broke all of the rules of being equal that they had agreed upon in the
It was once when an animal was a slave and just an animal, but with a little bit of rebellion, things are turned upside down. Animal Farm shows an important point that it is easy to take advantage of those who are feeble, or less intelligent. Napoleon uses his power to keep the sheep working who follow along with the rest of the animals, and also exploits characters like Boxer who helps. In Animal Farm, George Orwell uses personification and detail to show a leader and followers viewpoints in an environment to prove how leaders and followers contributes to the loss of freedom and equality.
The theme of the book Animal Farm is that power always corrupts. There are many instances in the story that imply that “Power always corrupts.” is the true moral of the novel. For example, as early on as chapter 3, the very beginning of animal farm, you see that the pigs have a higher standard of treatment than other animals. “So it was agreed without further argument that the milk and windfall apples ( And also the main crop of apples when they ripened.) ,Should be reserved for the pigs alone.”
By the social ranking of animals and when the pigs change the Seven Commandments. The themes in this story mean that certain people in society take advantage of people and their abilities. These people are sometimes more uneducated and not even aware that they are being used. Ignorance can lead to easy targets being
Animal Farm by George Orwell has addressed the theme that power corrupts those who possess it, especially Napoleon. Corruption of power is well defined in Lord Acton’s statement, ‘power trends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely’. Throughout the Novel Napoleon has absolute power, he uses manipulation over the other animals and demonstrates that Communism can contribute to corruption of power. Since the beginning Napoleon has had absolute power over Animal Farm. He used his knowledge and education to take over the farm.
However, the pigs had a change in mind. They decided to be leaders of the farm because they believed they were the smartest. Nonetheless, they unknowingly become “human”. This is where the quote comes into play. The pigs start to forget how Jones acted and started to become Jones but in animal form. They even changed all the commandments to satisfy all their needs. They turned “No animal can sleep in a bed,” to “No animal can sleep in a bed with sheets.” And “No animal can drink alcohol,” to “No animal can drink alcohol to excess,” and so on and so forth. This just shows that the pigs did not want to break the seven commandments so instead, they changed it to make it seem like they are doing nothing
I think the most important theme in the book of "Animal Farm" is the corrupting effect power. Power is the willingness to act or control, and when too much power is given to a person, it can makes someone to do bad things such as corruption. In the beginning of the story, the Old Major, who is the respected animal in the farm was given his speech. By using his power, he was able to tells all animals that human is bad and he told all animals to do rebellion against human that human had taken their things; eggs, milk, etc.
The pigs consider themselves the superior ones of the farm; this is because of their knowledge. The pigs systematically abuse logic and language to control those below them. For example, the final reduction of the seven commandments, this is in Chapter five, is senseless content but is read in reasonable language by the rest of the animals. This quote shows that there are many different degrees of “equal” just as there is of “light”, for example (more light, less light). Once you have misread, little details seem insignificant.
Since my last journal entry, I have had the chance to have new experiences at the nursing home. Not only do we get to view the jail tomorrow, which I know that all of us in the clinical group are excited to experience, we get to do a med-pass, and we will get the chance to go to Hospice. Hospice is a place that I had heard about and briefly knew about before coming to Riverside, but I really didn’t know that much about it. Every nursing home that I have had clinical at or worked at has had residents that are on hospice, but none have had a specific hospice house like Riverside does.
