Choose the two sections of Mother Tesresa’s book that stuck out most, and explain
why they made an impact on you.
This book was so informative that it is so hard to pick only two parts that impacted me the most. If I have to choose only two the first would be Chapter Eight, “ The Poor and Rich in Love.” As Mother Theresa makes so many points in this section. The stories she tells about bringing the dying off the streets to die in peace. This is so touching that these missionaries devote their lives to the poor. They choose to be poor, and Mother Theresa talks about they choose to be poor to really understand and feel what these poor people are experiencing. The stories she tells of bringing dying people in

I never really knew what these missionaries do, and it just fills my heart that there are people in the world that devote their lives to taking care of the homeless, feeding the starving, and helping the dying. Where would our world be without these people? It is sad to even think about what the world would be like without the sisters around to help all the people they do. It touches my heart to know that these people are devoted through Jesus. On judgement day we all know that God will welcome these missionaries to heaven with open arms. They devote their lives to do the work of Jesus, for these are some of the most wonderful people on this earth.
The other topic I felt was interesting in the book, is when Mother Teresa speaks of her thoughts and feelings on abortion. There are several sections in the book, where she talks about abortion. I do agree with Mother Teresa’s points on abortion. We are killing innocent children that God has created. In one section where Mother Teresa is in an interview answering questions, one question was referring to abortion. I want to quote her answer because it could not be answered in a better way. Her answer was, “people are trying to be free to live their own life by destroying life. For me, this is a painful sign that either the country is so poor that it cannot care for the lives that God has created, or that people are making a tremendous mistake.” I do agree with Mother Teresa on this subject. There are so
I loved how she painted the picture of the peasant life in every page, especially at the beginning. For she illustrated how the people in her village were struggling financially and were not worried about the health of their family members and themselves, instead the men in the families were more
"All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming" said Helen Keller, a woman who faced many obstacles in her life ("Fun"). Most people don't dedicate their lives to help others, especially if they have disabilities themselves, but Helen Keller is a different story. At 19 months old, Helen Keller was diagnosed with a disease that led her to be deaf and blind. A true hero is someone who is dedicated to help others in need no matter the circumstances/struggle he or she faces, never gives up, and is an inspiration for others. Helen Keller is a hero because she overcame the struggle of being deaf and blind by never giving up, dedicated her life to help others, and made change in the world despite her disabilities.
What are your thoughts on the text so far, based on your perceptions of poverty do you think the author illustrated it accurately? I believe that she did a good job illustrating the ways she was dealing with poverty. She also gave great example on the different jobs and things she had to overcome so she could get a better life.
The two main points that i have picked might not seem like the have an impact on society, but when kids that live in a place like the ghettos can relate to Day. Marie Lu purpose of writing this book was to show the readers that judging them by what they look like and how they act can be very wrong. Society today has a really big impact and judging people has gotten worse. We judge people that are rich, poor, or have bad qualities. Marie tries to show us through the book that our world has changed, but it can surely
She told her audience this story to get them to see a side of people that they didn’t necessarily know about. They got to see how this woman was poor and yet she still died smiling and thankful for what life had given her. Mother Teresa wanted the audience to see how much a small gesture really meant to someone because small gestures can create peace. Her personal experiences are meant to have an emotional connection with her audience which results in the audience feeling more included to make changes in their life that would bring more peace to the world. Mother Teressa wants this story to evoke sympathy throughout her audience because this poor woman may have had struggles in her life, but what matters most was her gratitude.
It was one of the many saddest events that occurred in the history of the world. In the following paragraphs you will be reading a summary or a “movie review”, what ever might call it, about Anne Frank. At the end of the review I will write about my opinion to the movie.
Her perspective was effective because it was from an average Christian perspective. I appreciated this approach because I am a Christian. However, I also think her message can be appreciated by non-Christians because she still had some brilliant ideas for social changes. The author focused on how the average citizen can make a change for the future. I agree with her that change will happen in the future generations.
What impressed me the most was that even though St. Barbara had lived a life where the one and only ruler was the emperor of Rome, she was a stoic woman who wanted to seek the truth about Creation. Her friend, Juliana, was a devout Catholic who fervently believed in God Almighty, along with her boyfriend and her friends. Whenever they would make an offering of incense for Rome, she was devastated when they told her that making such an offering means forsaking their faith in God. This leads her to question what kind of Almighty God would watch His followers die for His faith.
Religion can impact a person's life through the teachings, and the values and attitudes presented. The effect which religion can give can either be positive or negative. The effect of the Catholic religion on mother Teresa was a positive influence, an influence whichever inspired others to follow her. Agnes Gonxha, or ‘flower bud’, the translation of Gonxha, was the birth name which Mother Teresa was given by her parents. Her family took religion quite seriously, and which in turn lead Agnes to be a religious person known by many. Though Mother Teresa sparked the world with her attitude of helping others and showing the example of God’s love, she never claimed to be anyone special, just another being following in Jesus’s words. Within her
I liked the passages that discussed abortion and the death penalty. I am not sure which way I lean towards on the topic, but it was surprisingly shocking to read how the author put this. It was the first time I’ve heard the idea that if you are pro life, it only makes sense to be against the death penalty, because a beating heart is just that. I was shocked because I find that true and I think I see a lot of people who look over that.
Think about people who deserve status as heroes—from the past, from the present, from life, and from literature. What defines a hero? Write a multi-paragraph essay that develops your definition of heroism. Be sure to use strategies of definition (function, example, and negation) to guide your writing
According to Fr Spotts, the Catholic Church “has many branches of missions throughout the world, and its members are from all the countries and continents” (Spotts, personal communication, 2015). This fact emphasizes the prevalence and the presence of the Catholic Church in the world. I have read in the history books that the missions of the Catholic Church started with the discovery of the new world, America. The missionaries travelled from both Spain and Portugal to the new continent to settle down and spread the Christianity. Nowadays, the missionaries function varies between visiting the parishioners and no parishioners to teach the Gospel, and staying to help people who are in need in their monasteries. Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a well-known missionary in the twentieth century and gave an alive example of apostolic life within the Catholic Church. Mother Teresa of Calcutta was born in Skopje, Macedonia; then she travelled to India as a nun, where she established the Missionaries of Charity. Moreover, she expanded the work of the Missionaries of Charity throughout India, then in some countries around the world, especially in Africa (Feister & Zimmerman, 2003). The Mother Teresa’s role underlines the continuing missionary church in the world where it does not stop at the borders of a particular state. This expansion is a positive element of the Christian life in the twenty-first century. In summary, a
comparison I can think of is when I moved to middle school. I was the
There are many people in this world that we consider great humanitarians. Mother Teresa was a unique individual that stood out of the crowd because of her involvement in helping the sick, poor and dying. She spent everyday of her adulthood caring for people that were in need by setting up the Missionary of Charity along with many homes for the people she cared for. Mother Teresa won many awards throughout her lifetime for her dedication to care for people in need. It is no wonder that Mother Teresa won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and is considered a saint.
What a sensation was made about the Sensation exhibition in the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The focus of Mayor Giuliani's outcry was the piece "The Holy Virgin Mary" by Chris Ofili. Funny, he didn't give attention to some of the other outrageous works including the pubescent female mannequins studded with erect penises, vaginas, and anuses, fused together in various postures of sexual coupling, or the portrait of a child molester and murder made from what appears like child hand prints or bisected animals in plexiglass tanks full of formaldehyde. Would it ever have made headlines with a different title, like "Afro-lady"? I don't think so. I guess targeting religion gets a little too personal. Giuliani said, "You don't have the right to
