Motherhood I was hesitant on the idea of pursuing school after I found out I was pregnant. Little did I know that my child would be the one that made me want to fulfil my career more than anything else ever had. On February 16, 2015 I welcome my first child into the world. I had a great pregnancy, but things took a turn for the worse during labor. When my son, Rowan, was six days the neonatal intensive care unit staff gave us the option of treating the disease he developed or to send us home and allow nature to run its course. Both options had significant complications involved. Ultimately, it was not possible for me to give up on my sweet baby at only six days old. I still can’t to this day even fathom the thought of him coming home and …show more content…
The treatment was a month long, and about half way through it he had to be transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital. All of his veins had collapsed and he needed a picc line put in. They allowed us to stay in a parent suite. It was nice because we had a bed and he could stay in there with us the entire time. The only downfall was I had to be there around the clock day and night; I was not allowed to leave the hospital. Besides family, the only thing that helped get me through this tough time was the staff. I got to know them extremely well and was always sharing stories with them. I told many of them I was in my sophomore year of college, and I was going to school to become a nurse. I expressed my concerns about not being able to finish because I now have a kid; they encouraged me to move forward and to complete school. My favorite nurse, Amanda, told me that she had two kids before she graduated high school. She had such a strong support system and went to college immediately. Her story gave me the push of courage that I needed. I made the commitment to myself to continue on with going to nursing school because I saw the love and passion the nurses had as the took care of my son and the other babies. They made great counselors and friends along the way, but in the end they saved his life. I can’t imagine doing anything more rewarding than being a hero to
The Moms.com negotiation has two roles: Kim Taylor as the buyer for WCHI (Independent television station in Chicago) and Terry Schiller as a syndicated sales representative for Hollyville, Inc. an international multimedia corporation that specializes in producing television shows and motion pictures. On this negotiation I played the role of Kim Taylor.
I did not know much about the health care field then but in that moment, I felt as if the health care system failed since the day he was born. This experience made me become eager to be a part of making a difference in the health care world. The lack of managed care caused the life of my nephew, and for this my passion for Science and the need of helping others only manifested because of my experience. My aspirations were to become a Registered Nurse and specialize in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In my early college years, I also became a part of the UCLA team through an internship program. UCLA Care Extenders allowed me to gain valuable knowledge. As an intern, I did clinical rotations and was able to discover what takes place behind closed doors. However, what lead me into
If I was the defense attorney trying to defend either one of these two cases. I would not bring it to trial because of the fact it would be hard for me to prove to the court that individuals was in there right state of mind when the incidents occurred. Furthermore it would take intensive amount of time for the psychologist to do this if he or she is not
My educational aspirations consists of acquiring a secondary bachelor’s degree in nursing. With this degree, I hope to continue pursuing my passion in the medical field. More specifically a career path in the pediatric unit or NICU. When I was nine years old, I was in a serious bicycling accident that left me unconscious with cuts covering a large portion of my body. My father brought me and my family to my pediatrician’s office where she spent the next two hours patching up the superficial wounds and stitching the deep ones.
At holiday time several community organizations collect toys and gifts for younger children usually up to age 12, but donations for teenagers are always low. This means many of the teens living below the poverty level will receive no gifts during the holiday season.
Abortion is one of the most controversial topics of today. It is defined as the voluntary act of ceasing a pregnancy. The very core of abortion is inhumane and dehumanizing, yet it has become quite popular in contemporary society. This topic has caused an uproar in society as individuals debate over the morality of having abortions. Abortion at any time during a pregnancy should be illegal.
Throughout my sister-in-law’s labor, I was by her side, coaching and encouraging her along the way. Being a mother myself, I knew what to expect during a birth, but now seeing the experience from a different point of view, it changed my life. Becoming a Registered Nurse is my goal, but I hope to one day work as a labor and delivery nurse. After marrying my husband and having children, I made the commitment to myself that once they started elementary school, I would begin working toward my goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. It has been 12 years since I graduated high school, so the fears and uncertainty of what to expect and if I could succeed almost stopped me from moving forward.
No one ever said raising a child would be easy. If you are a first time mom, and was looking for a hand manual at the hospital, you probably got a dose of reality when you were told—there is no such thing. There is no need to worry by the time your second child comes along, you will have child rearing in the bag. So, just what do you do when the nurses hand over your bundle of joy and tell you it’s time to take your baby home?
The experience I gained in the two years working there was priceless. From the common cold to heart attacks, I saw a wide network of disease processes and illnesses. I enjoyed my job and made strong ties with my coworkers, yet the desire inside me to acquire more knowledge in this nursing career that I loved would not be silenced. Although six months pregnant, I was accepted into the newly named Belmont College transitional program, going from Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse. Nothing could stop me from obtaining my dreams. Now I had a new force pushing me: my daughter. Many nights were spent studying under lampposts as I drove around with my colicky newborn. Struggling as a newly single mother of an infant, working part-time in home healthcare, and going to nursing school full-time challenged me more as a person than I ever thought was possible. Despite every obstacle, I would not be shaken. I set out to become the best nurse I could become and was determined to
It sounds impossible to take a nice, long nap while you are pushing your new baby out into the world, but that is exactly what happened to this new mother.
It is important for parents to be their children's friend, but they need their parent first. Other parents don't have time for their child. They expect schools, day cares, and other institutions to raise their child. Parent’s time in children is irreplaceable. Still other parents find disciplining their child to be too much of trouble; Therefore, they allow their child to act anyway they want. Some may agree that “parenting is not a democracy but a dictatorship.” Finally, there are parents who constantly bail their child out of whatever problem they are in. Children need to know consequences for their actions. These parents are not helping their children by doing these things. Reality will one day slap their child in the face and they will
Women’s unequal social and economic status has led to lower levels of political participation and representation and worst health outcomes. We address the Triple Aim to improve healthcare outcomes and experience for women by focusing on maternal health. We address costs reduction by the expenses associated with loss of life and productivity loss. We are interested in the associations among maternal health and women’s political participation of women.
A woman's body undergoes some tremendous changes during pregnancy and childbirth. The unwanted effects of childbearing and breastfeeding, especially weight gain and sagging skin, often remain long after childbirth.
The findings from this data analysis conforms some of the research expectations, however some unexpected results were found. These results show that higher education levels reduce the impact of Hay’s (1996) intensive mothering theory, with less people agreeing that mothers have to be the primary carers of their children. A correlation was found between education attainment and the dependent variable, which was expected. Previous research found a correlation between these two variables, which is due to the change in attitudes through education, and this study confirmed the association. Education also had the largest magnitude of effect on the dependent variable compared to other independent variables. These findings provide support for the hypothesis that education influences the chance of disagreeing with the statement ‘When a mother works
Many different aspects of life characterize motherhood. Traditions along with society influence the role of motherhood. Carol Stacks' "All our Kin," is an essay about the "structuring of kin groups" (1974, p.47). In the society, if the mother is not mature enough to raise the child, a close female relative takes on the role of the mother; whereas, the man has the option of choosing to claim the child and take on the responsibilities of fatherhood or he can imply that the father could be anyone, which is a socially acceptable reason. Ruth Horowitz' "The Expanded Family and Family Honor," portrays a Mexican Family as a "nuclear family unit" within an "expanded family" (1983, p.64). After marriage, motherhood is an expected
