I am writing to apply for the PhD program, Neuroscience, at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM). I am a graduate of Montclair State University, NJ, with a double major in biology and psychology. I have completed my high school in a war-torn country, Afghanistan. In 2006, after high school, alongside, it was not safe for women, I did not have adequate for options to continue my higher education in sciences. Therefore, it was feasible to start working for international organizations in database related position, so started as a database operator and resigned from as database developer, as I received a fully funded scholarship to continue my education in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan at American University of Central Asia …show more content…
As a sophomore student, I was introduced to biological sciences’ research method in which I was involved in a two consecutive semesters research project program, Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science. The research project was combined with general biology I and classes’ lab work. At the first semester, my lab partner and I isolated a unique bacteriophage DNA and at the second semester, we annotated its sequenced genome. This was research published on E-life journal and I was contented be to an information contributor for this publication.
After this research experience my interest in research was amplified, hence, I joined in another research project at the Sentence Comprehension Lab, Psychology Department, Montclair State University, directed by Dr. David Townsend. The research enquired verbs’ telicity (boundedness) interactions in conjunction with adverb phrase types. I conducted language and eye-tracking experiments for five semesters in this lab. I was responsible for running experiments daily, and record data for analysis and analyzing of the data for my project using SPSS and various proprietary data analysis software. During my last semester, I was given the opportunity to present the research significant findings with Dr. Townsend at the 29th Annual CUNY Conference on Human Sentence Processing at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, 2016. The conference gave me a broader
All employees analyze their environment and strive to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication they put into the company, in a word they are seeking justice. Justice can be defined as a person receiving what they feel they are entitled to and if they do not receive what they deserve the situation may board on injustice. Unfortunately in today’s society justice and appreciation are not given out to all those deserving (Pinder, 1998). A major problem to address is how to keep the motivation level high in a company when the employees do not feel appreciated.

When a person plans or wants to do something, he or she has a motivation for that specific thing. In other words, when a person does something, that person has a reason why he or she should do that thing. Not always there is a reason to do something, but sometimes may be many reasons that are backing a person to take those actions to do it. This happens not only to humans, or living organisms, but also in nonliving organisms. An example is when a rock which had bounced after it hit the floor while falling down. Scientists may tell some of the reasons why the rock does that kind of action, but they cannot tell all of the reasons that back the rock’s actions. A similar thing, as the scientists, was Alfie Kohn trying to do in his essay, “Why
Motivation can be defined as the desire or inspiration to carry out specific tasks or to do something. Motivation is required when goals are being set and more so in their execution. In a work setting, motivation can be defined as a process through which individuals choose between alternative forms of behavior with the aim of achieving personal objectives. The goals sought by individuals can be extrinsic or relatively tangible such as monetary rewards and promotion, or intrinsic or intangible such as self esteem or job satisfaction (Armstrong, 2006). In learning, the desire to attain good grades is what motivates a student to study hard everyday as they prepare for the exam. On the other hand, for a teacher to put his best foot forward, he
I am writing to apply for the Neuroscience Graduate Program, University of Rochester, New York. I am a graduate of Montclair State University (MSU), New Jersey, with a double major in biology and psychology. I was born in Afghanistan and completed high school in 2006. It was challenging for a woman to participate professionally in Afghan society after decades of war. However, after completing high school, I was able to start working with databases for international organizations, moving from data entry to developing database software over a two year period.

I am applying for a PhD program in Biomedical Engineering due to my ardent desire to make a change in the world that will help people to get better. My research interests include tissue engineering, computational biology, neuroengineering, biomaterials and regenerative medicine through which I intend to make headway in the field of cancer research. I am from a small state in India and
The social cognitive theory states “that most human emotion is the direct result of what people think, tell themselves, assume, or believe about themselves and their social situations” (Lantz, 1978). Students are motivated by what they see in other people. If they see that their older brother or sister cannot get anywhere in life because they dropped out, they will be less likely to drop out. They also are motivated if they have a belief they have the ability to perform a certain task. Teachers can influence their beliefs. Teachers can take a weak student and pair them with a strong student to motivate them by what they see in the
“Research In Biological Sciences” appeals to my passion in biology. My interest in biology was heightened in the summer of 2014, when I attended Rice University’s Duke TIP Summer Studies Program in “Modern Medicine.” There, I learned about various types of viruses and pathogens that have attacked the human race over the past 2000 years, such as smallpox and measles. Every new topic we learned fascinated and intrigued me. After the camp ended, I was hooked into studying the evolution of bacteria and read articles on the subject for the rest of the summer.
My ability to excel in school and prosper in life comes from my most significant qualities, passion, and determination. Growing up in a military family, I have a strong set of values. I was raised with high expectations for my future. I have been able to prosper even when all odds are against me. I strive to be successful and to not fit into the stereotypes of what people think I should be.
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania is my opportunity to undertake and organize my academic queries, as dissimilar as they may be from one another, into a mélange of knowledge that defines my personal and career related interests.

I am applying for admission to the Ph.D. program in management because I desire a career in the research and teaching of management. In particular, I am interested in the factors that affect the employee’s productivity after Cross-Cultural Merger and Acquisition (M&A), the manner in which change in employee’s attitude affects an organisation’s performance, long-term strategies and revenue, and the ways to avoid losing people, productivity and profit during Cross-Cultural M&A. In order to gain appreciation of these and related issues, it is essential for me to have a strong grounding in international business, Cross-Cultural Management, and the issues connected with human behaviour and managing people.
To assist in the practical implementation of motivation theory, we will assess the benefits of job and work redesign in relation to goal setting. As a department manager we must be aware of the gradual changes that occur in job tasks and the incremental addition of new tasks that might trigger a need for redesign. The issues that arise from these changes can be addressed by applying the principles of job and work redesign in relation to the goals of the department. The need for change is viewed from four levels of scope, re-engineering, restructuring, work redesign and job redesign. As re-engineering and restructuring is most often done by upper administration, we will focus on the domain of the department manager and their responsibility to effectively manage work and job design within their department.
MacIntyre et al. (2001) define motivation as “an attribute of the individual describing the psychological qualities underlying behavior with respect to a particular task” (p. 463). The study of motivation as a predictor of second language learning performance was initiated by Gardner and his Canadian colleagues (1972).
