Motivation Not Hype
By Matthew Meinck

Motivation is not hype. Due to superficial knowledge and insufficient ability, many so called 'motivators' or motivational speakers design and offer formats that merely hype up participants but offer nothing that is sustainable. How often have you felt inspired by the presence of a charismatic speaker and left the room determined to change your life only to return to earth with a bump the first time you failed to appease a disgruntled customer, meet a sales target or communicate effectively with your staff or friends?
What I have to offer is the result of three decades of deep and sustained study of our human nature, resulting in a thorough understanding of human psychology with regard to motivation or the lack there of.
What is required to achieve sustainable motivation in people?
Hype is merely a superficial attempt to enhance a depleted sense of motivation. The correct approach is to address the

They do not touch upon the actual cause of these symptoms. It is the uprooting of the cause of conflict and stagnation that will bring an end to the symptoms apparent in our external interactions.
Put simply, problems arise when what is going on inside a person is at odds with what is presented or expected, externally. Until the two are the same or similar, no matter how many times you improve on the surface, what lies inside the individual remains at odds with the outer action and will continue to undermine all
The article “The Secret of Effective Motivation” by Amy Wrzesniewski and Barry Schwartz, appeared in Sunday Review on July 4, 2014. The article introduces different types of motives and examines their effectiveness with the help of real life social experiments. The differences between two main types of motives: internal and instrumental, are introduced in the first part of the article. Although, many people think that both internal and instrumental motives are good in engaging some kind of activity, authors argue that instrumental motives are not so useful and sometimes can be counterproductive for success. Authors develop their argument by analyzing the results
The theories relating to the motivational methods and techniques I have chosen to reinforce the information are the two-factor and expectancy theory. The two-factor theory was developed by Frederick Herzberg’s and falls under two categories the satisfier and hygiene factors. The two are linked and are identified as being turned

Everyone loves watching a good movie, especially me. I love being lost in the worlds of fake characters on a screen more than being lost in the real world. Most of the time, the situations and environments the characters are in are more compelling and enthralling than the world us teenage kids live in. It’s hard having “fun” as a teenager (depending on what your definition of fun is).
School have been known as a place where students are able to develop various types of skill. Student can learn about a difficult concept of science or mathematic. However, when it comes with being creative, the student really don't have much excess to it; due to the large amount of time they have to put into studying. With the tremendous about of work being take place, from time to time students tend to dislike school. Because of this reason, it makes me feel like it's extra important for the student to add some extra flavor into their boring school life. In other words, invest your
Motivation 3.0 seeks engagement and with only engagement can you produce Mastery. This is saying that if you want achieve Mastery you have to have engagement. I agree with this because if you want to be good at anything you have to be wanting to put in the work and effort. Carol Dweck once said that Effort is one of the biggest things that gives meaning to life. I believe this is true because if you ever do decide to put effort into anything you do it because you really care about it. In life if you want something you have to want to go out there and put the effort into it. Like in school if you want good grades they are not given you have to out in the time
Have you ever been at home with nothing to do or ben grounded from electronics.Without them most people get bored. Some people think boredom is bad and some people think it can be healthy.Scientist believe that boredom can keep your mind healthy. Most people would think that when your bored you don't use your brain as
In the past I feel I could have done much better: do more homework, train for soccer more, and be more selfmotivated. I was unfocused and I should have had better disciplined myself. There was so many things I could have done better even some small, little things. Those mistakes that I made that are regrettable, I like to learn from them so I can try not to make those again. Recently I have been getting better making less mistakes but they are worst mistakes though. Like not doing any and all of my homework. I used to be a high honor roll student last year and the year before. I thinks it's the motivation. We all have a moment that life really gets to you. You question everything and every once in a while you should question everything because
The issue at hand is what could be the biggest problem in the world? The answer of this question is very difficult, but I believe that emission of harmful gasses is biggest treat today. This issue is troubling the nation for couple of decades because it is hard to implement the right solution to stop the harmful gasses disrupting our atmosphere. I believe that there are couple of solutions that can lower or even eliminate harmful gas emission.
This article is very positive, I found it to be a great read. It gives a look at the factors that influence children, thru adolescence. There are many factors that affect how a student acts, and the consequences of these factors. These factors also make it hard to provide great leadership in the classroom.
Educators in America have been assigning homework as a mandatory part of students' education for years. In the early 1900's, the Ladies Home Journal movement claimed homework was detrimental to students' health, and since then homework has been highly debated as to whether homework is beneficial for students' education. There have been different homework movements and stances throughout the last century. In the 1900s there was a movement in America that advocated for the termination of homework. In the 1940s-1960's, debates shifted from abolishing homework, to reforming homework to better suit the individual student. Then, most recently, the launch of Sputnik boosted the pro-homework movement (SFGATE). Teachers, parents and students across
A famous tennis player Rafael Nadal once said “My motivation is tomorrow, just one day at a time, right?” What is motivation? Many people have a different connotations for it. As defined in the Discovering Psychology book it means the biological, emotional, cognitive, or social forces that activate and direct behavior. Motivation can occur by different reasons or factors for a person. Yet, What really motivates a person? Psychology has proposed many theories on what a person can be motivated by. I have found two articles about the different research or theories people purpose about motivation in physical activity for students.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article about nurturing motivation. The writer did an excellent job in explaining that children need to rely more on intrinsic motivation rather than awards that are not always given out to show recognition. The author reinforced my pedagogy by explaining “the key to preserving (not creating) intrinsic motivation is to nurture students to move to the next level.” (2018) I have always believed that we as teachers need to give our students a reason to be motivated. We have to provide experiences and give out compliments to make sure our students are receiving positive enforcements every day to encourage our students to perform better.
One might contemplate an aspect to life may be the pondering existential question; what motivates people to do what they do? The human experience is exceptionally complex due to different variables attributing to our individual experiences. Though each person 's experience is particularly unique to themselves, as a general phenomenon, people seem to have some similarities in experience that bring us together as a bonding universal community. Through many different theoretical lenses, we can look through the study of psychology of how motivation contributes to human behavior of why people do what they do.
Motivation is usually accounted as a sociopsychological factor that ‘appears to be the second strongest predictor of success, trailing only aptitude’ (Skehan, 1989, cited in Gass et al., 2013, p. 453), but its nature is still unclear. Dörnyei (2001) believes that motivation can be described as an answer why people decided to do something, how long they are going to do it and how hard they are going to pursue it.
