Through your help staff must be allowed to find self-confidence within them, not only will they work more efficiently but they will probably end up enjoying their jobs a lot more, this is the beginning of efficient and welcomed service. A nurse manager’s goals would therefore largely be based on their staff, ensuring that they are happy and cared for. A successful institution is only triumphant when everyone is working in an enjoyable environment and this all starts with you. Patient care will immediately show improvement and the institution will be remembered for the caring service that they received. Stress, we all have it in our lives and for some of us it affects us in ways we do not even realise it. This causes me great discomfort as this leads me to not even have the ability to begin my tasks as I am concerned about how I will be able to complete it on time. Once I am able to resolve this predicament I will be confident enough about accomplishing all my tasks and concluding these tasks to my best effort.
Another target for the nurse manager to perform is to maintain quality improvement in his or her unit in each feature. According to Hurst, Moore & Clark (2011), “Nurse managers who are strong advocates for developing a healthy work environment may be viewed as risk-takers. The workplace is an important setting for the nursing leader to address the mental, physical, social, and economic welfare of employees” (pp 1). This explains that the nurse manager initially communicates with her workers and has a good relationship as manager-employee relationship and directs the concerns and problems directly in order to deliver a confident setting to work efficiently. For the leader to be effective she must foster a work environment where the staff feel they have input. The leader appreciates that all people are created differently and must know each person’s strengths to assure they are able to attain positive patient outcomes (Gottlieb, Gottlieb, & Shamian, 2012). Staff need be aware that creativity is welcome and needed to accomplish daily tasks. For the leader to foster this environment she must, above all, be visible (Huber, 2014). When the day is falling apart, I have always felt refuge in seeing a face that can make things better. Secondly, the leader needs to be effective in communication (Huber, 2014). If the nurse is expected to perform a task properly, the nurse must be aware of what is expected and be informed of any changes of this expectation. Lastly, the leader can create democratic environment by motivating staff (Huber, (2014). A good leader will motivate by example. This means, if the leader expects staff to be on time to work, the leader must be on time also. If the leader needs staff to get creative about staffing hours, reward the person who comes up with a workable idea. In contemporary U.S.A, it can be very challenging keeping up with our fast pace society. Since we are a nation where everything is expected to get done as quickly as possible, and everything seems to have deadlines that must be met especially in the work field; it’s no surprise when we must stare stress right in the face at one point or another. For some of us, it’s as frequent as every day that stress arises and luckily for others, it’s not as much. However, whatever the case maybe we all have had and will go through stressful events in our lifetime. How one chooses to cope with stress is solely up to them. Psychological stress is a result of many factors and should be dealt with very carefully. Stress can be defined as “An excess of demand made upon the adaptive capabilities of the mind and body”.(Joseph 1). Another way of putting it, is that there are some things that put certain demands on us. The effects of stress should not be limited to unpleasant emotional states. Many studies have concluded that the effects on our physical health from stress can be extremely detrimental. These adverse physical effects include heart disease and formations of cancer. There are also some societal issues that psychological stress can hamper.
