There are a lot of dangers in the world. One of the worst are mountain climbing. One of the worst mountains to climb in my opinion is Mt. Everest, the 29.029 feet beast. The tallest mountain in the world. There are a lot of risks I would have to take. But climbing Mt. Everest would be a great accomplishment and achievement in my life. It left me thinking should I go, or should I stay? Out of all the dangerous activities in the world to do, climbing Mt.Everest would be at the top of my list. I feel as if it would be a great adventure to complete through my lifetime. I would like to climb Mt. Everest because it would be a great experience to climb the highest and most dangerous mountain in the world. I would like to climb Mt. Everest also because …show more content…
Everest gave me a lot of information of different things happening on Mt. Everest. There are a lot of storms on the mountain, and the mountain makes it’s own weather. Climbing Mt. Everest I would never know when a storm would hit. I would just have to make a guess by what the weather looks like at the time. I would need lots of oxygen. Oxygen is one of the most important tools to have on the climb of Mt. Everest. Especially when you get to the death zone, because my body would be dying at that point of the mountain, and I would die if I didn't have any oxygen. The movie also showed me no matter how much of an experienced climber I could be, you can always get lost easily. The same goes with death. I could be the world's best mountain climber, but when it comes to Mt. Everest I could die any moment on that mountain if I’m not careful. Death is an important issue if I am climbing Mt. Everest. Lots of people die climbing the mountain. It would be hard to climb the mountain with my family. It would be a very traumatic vacation to do with my family. If I was to climb Mt. Everest it would have to be with people that are not in my family circle. It would be very sad to see my family suffer through all the hard and painful things to experience to get to the top of the mountain. Getting to the top is harder than it looks. I watched the movie Mt. Everest, and people lost their hands, nose, and even their lives. It would take a lot of heart and dedication to
Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world and commonly considered the most dangerous to climb. So, is climbing this magnificent mountain worth it? What are some of the risks taken if someone were willing to climb the mountain and why would anyone want to do so? Last but not least, what are some of the pros and cons of scaling this large mountain that only a few can say they accomplished in their lives? Well in many people’s minds these thoughts soar, and today all of these questions might finally have an answer.
As said by Zopa, “You can never tell who the mountain will allow, and who it will not.” Peak needs to reach the top of the mountain as soon as possible, before he turns 15, in order to break the world record of having the youngest person reach above 29,000 feet. To do this, though, he endangers his life with the cold, getting oxygen, and just the climb itself. As they say, “Climb high, sleep low,” to get acclimatized, that way your lungs will be caught up with your body, or else they would collapse and you could come down with a serious case of HAPE. With the climb itself, Peak faces quite a few difficulties. At one point, when he was climbing up a steep slope with his axes, one of Sun-Jo’s slipped, and he was dangling. But, being the hero he is, Peak climbed sideways towards the rope that was hanging there, grabbed it, and swung down to Sun-Jo, saving him just as his crampon was slipping. There were other things like avalanches that happened, but the most killer thing was the so called death zone. In it, you have to get in and out in under 18 hours, or else you will meet certain death. Oxygen or not, there’s only a certain time limit you can survive it. Of course Peak made it out in time, but he did not, in fact, reach the summit, which was actually rather
The entire journey up the mountain is full of danger. You constantly have to worry about the oxygen you are getting and people around you are dying. The air is thin and if there is any air, it’s contaminated. You have to worry about getting the disease H.A.P.E. You have to worry about your health 24/7. You have to get past impossible obstacles. You just have to be strong. Climbing the mountain is an endless, painful battle. No matter what is happening outside of the mountain, on Mount Everest all that matters is Survival.
Mt. Everest’s summit has always seemed an unattainable goal for most people. The idea that most people have is that if I can climb Mt Everest, I can accomplish anything. To have the money and desire to try to attempt it is one thing, but being able to endure the punishment is quite another. Beck Weathers, one of the climbers on this particular expedition, had such severe frostbite that he had to have his right arm, nose and the fingers on his left hand amputated. Everyone on the expedition suffered the rigors of Everest. The two expert guides, Rob Hall and Scott Fischer, lost their lives due to a violent storm that ripped through during their descent from the summit. Their impaired judgment also contributed to their demise. Everest is no respecter of persons. Mt Everest is the most respected mountain in the whole world and if
Despite his impressive record he had never attempted anything close to the scale of Everest, whose summit is at an extremely dangerous altitude. He even admits to his relative inexperience with high altitude saying, “Truth be told, I’d never been higher than 17,200 feet--not even as high as Everest Base Camp”(28). Krakauer also mentions how he has gotten out of shape over the years partially because of the lack of climbing in his life, making him even less prepared for the assent. Krakauer shows a definite fear of such a high mountain, referring to climbers who have perished in the past. He states that, “Many of those who died had been far stronger and possessed vastly more high-altitude experience than I.” (28). Even though Krakauer’s experience may be more relevant to the Everest assent than some of the other tourist climbers, it is nowhere near the level needed to be considered an elite climber.
First, let's start with the pros. The first pro is that you gain fame. You are known in the world for climbing the mountain. Another pro is that you are known for accomplishing a big accomplishment. And the last pro is that you can gain strength. If you can climb a mountain, then you can climb anything and any hard task will be easy for you. To sum up there are some pros on climbing Mount Everest.
Why is Mount Everest so dangerous? The people who want to climb Mount Everest are aware of the risk… But actually, the risk is part of the attraction for some people. Not everyone can manage the treacherous climb. In fact, some people pay with their lives for climbing Mount Everest. Everest is 29,035 feet from its base to its peak. The people who climb Everest are very skilled. People do not have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk because, they are making a life threatening risk to themselves and they are also making a risk to the people who are trying to save them.
In the passage “Into the Death Zone” by Sean McCollum Jordan attempted to climb Mt. Everest and succeded but his father was not into the idea of her going. Jordan’s father told her that it was a dangerous idea to climb Mt. Everest because many people did not survive. There were 11,000 who attempted the climb, 220 people died, 4,500 summits, and 150 corpses still on the mountain. Mt. Everest is 29,034 feet high. Jordan only being 13 year old attempted after convincing her father being one of the youngest to do it. But what if she did not make it or became seriously injured. Her father would be extremely disappointed in her and he could do nothing but to let it go. Her father warned her and she would probably stop climbing because of her father’s
Have you ever wondered what kind of hardships come with climbing the tallest mountain in the world before? Expectantly, the book Peak by Roland Smith and the movie Everest have a lot of similarities with some exceptionally prominent differences. From personal conflict and character conflict to the general aspect of climbing Mt. Everest, the book and the movie explore all different types of similarities and differences. Being similar, in both the movie and the book, the mountain always decides. The morals were constant and everyone experiences the same deal in similar ways. One significant difference came between Peak, the main character in the book, and Rob(5th summit attempt), the main character in the movie.
Many people have dreamed of climbing the tallest mountain on earth, Mount Everest. However one must possess certain physical and mental attributes to accomplish this giant feat. “Courage is not having the strength to go on: it's going on when you don't have the strength.” Ed Viesturs knows first-hand what having courage is all about although you’ve used all your strength. He kept going to reach his goal even after he faced life threatening obstacles.
In the first place, I do not think that climbing Mt. Everest is a good idea since there have been a lot of climbers who die there. It sounds like going to the hell because you want to see what it is like. If I were on the mountain and my friend is in danger, I think I would try to save him but only when I am sure that I can survive. I
Not only climbing Mount Everest can affect the climber, environment, but it can affect the local population of Nepal. According to the textbook Geography Alive! Regions and People it says on page 422 “ Porters are sometimes overworked and they are mistreated.” It is clearly testified that not everyone is nice to the porters, when they are only trying to help the climber climb safe to the summit. Another evidence, on page 216 from the book Peak, where it says “I had seen a dead person, let alone a frozen dead person.” Peak has testified that he saw a corpse just laying down face down on the cold snow on camp 4. This was new to him because he was not expecting this new thing for him. Concluding with this, climbing Mount Everest is not the best
I would climb kilimanjaro because on the chart it says that 13,200 people reach the summit which means it isn't as challenging as some of the other ones. Mount everest is the highest mountain in the world people have climbed. The most difficult one is carstensz because it says only 5-10 people make it up the mountain each year. Compared to everest it seems more difficult since 200 people make it up there each year. The difficult part about everest is the altitude compared to carstensz were the climbing is the most difficult part of the mountain. Everest compared to carstensz is easier since Apa made it up there 19 times which means it's not as difficult.
There are many good things and bad things about climbing Mount Everest. On one hand, successfully climbing Mount Everest could bring you fame. However, the adventure toward scaling up the mountain can be deadly and perilous. Obviously, there are many good and bad things about climbing Mount Everest. Scaling up Mount Everest is deadly in many ways.
On May 10, 1996 six people died trying to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. These people were parts of two expeditions that were in the Himalayas, preparing to ascend the summit for six weeks. The first group was under the direction of Rob Hall, who had put 39 paying clients on the summit in five years. Hall was considered the leader of the mountain and the man to see no matter what the discrepancy. Group two, headed by Fisher, who like Hall, was trying to start a profitable business in providing the experience of climbing Mt. Everest to all for the price of 60 to 70 thousand dollars. Unfortunatly, neither man would live to tell the tale of this expedition.
