In a world that is overruled by power, love, and technology, both the book The Circle, by David Eggers, and the film Ex Machina, directed by Alex Garland, expand upon this idea. Filled with strange moments and unpredictable behavior, both the book and film put the audience into shock. The Circle is based on a young woman named Mae who has recently been hired to work for the company the Circle; One of the most powerful technological company’s in the world. Mae is brain washed by the company and goes to extreme measures to show her worth, which leads to shocking moments. The film Ex Machina is based on a human created AI (Artificial Intelligence) named Ava that is put under trial by interacting with another person to see how it interacts in one-on-one situations. Nathan, the creator of Ava, has invited Caleb to interact with Ava in hopes of her being the perfect robot after multiple sessions. Everything seems to be going normal, but things go in a different direction and leave the audience with their jaws hanging. Although they have completely different story lines, both the book and film share various themes.
Becoming something bigger than you truly are: A theme that appears within the book and the film. The theme appears in a scene in Ex Machina. Sitting in a room, Caleb is looking over a non-disclosure form that Nathan hands him. As Caleb reads it over, he comes across many policies restricting him from posting or sharing any information through written or electronic
My opinion on the movie I watched, “The Outsiders” is that it was okay. I found some parts boring. There were some parts that was trying to be as emotional as the book and they looked very fake. The director of the movie was Francis Ford Coppola. The author of the book was S.E. Hinton. The Year the movie was made was 1983. The movie was about two gangs. The Socs and the Greasers. Two Greasers (Johnny and Ponyboy). A group of Socs jump them and Johnny is forced to kill one to save his friend from drowning. Johnny and Ponyboy run from the law to a small town named Windrixville. They soon become heros.
Ex Machina is a film about a scientist named Nathan who has selected an employee of his, Caleb Smith, to be flown out to his estate for a week. When Caleb arrives Nathan tells him that he has been selected to be part of a Turing test. A Turing Test is when you have a human and a computer interact with each other and if the human doesn’t know that they are interacting with a computer, then the test is passed. But Nathan has already completed that part of the test so now he wants Caleb to actually see her and have a one on one conversation with her see if Caleb still feels that the robot has consciousness. So, it turns out that Nathan has created a humanoid robot with artificial intelligence and her name is Ava. Ava appears with a robotic body but
Two boys, Johnny and Ponyboy, are our valiant heroes. Not even over the age of 18, two boys rescued 5 young children, who were no older than 8-years old. While bystanders watched and worried, only 2 from the crowd had courage to go save the children. They gallantly sprinted in a run as soon they heard children screaming in a burning church. According to our sources, Ponyboy was supposed to be in a boys’ home because his parents died when he was little. Instead of sent to a boys’ home, he was allowed stayed with his older brothers and they are his guardians, and they all stay together as long as they don’t do anything transgressive. A previous hearing at court confirms Ponyboy is not on the borderline of going
I selected the novel Astray by Amy Christine Parker for our novel analysis. I decided to read Astray after reading the series’s first book, Gated. I first read Gated because it is on the 2015-16 SC YABA nominee list, and I wasn’t disappointed. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. When I saw Astray in the library, I really wanted to know what happened to all the characters, and if this sequel was as good as Gated, so I chose it. I would recommend this series to anyone interested in finding a novel with lots of suspense and plot twists to read.
In class, we watched a documentary, called Forks over Knives. The film, introduced to the audience, the importance of eating right. In addition to this, the broadcast centered around promoting a whole-foods based diet. I actually learned a whole bunch of mind-boggling facts throughout the movie, as well. One fact I learned, was that in the early 1900s, milk and meat were sought out as the only source of protein. Recent research then contradicted this fact, stating there are many fruits and vegetables, that can be sources of protein in place of yogurt, meat, cheese, etc. I also learned that among majority of the ethnicities contained within America, African-Americans and Mexicans are the most likely to become obese. The film not only mentioned
We read and saw a movie called The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. There are stuff that are the same and some that are different. We had to take notes between the book and movie. The main characters are also different not so different but just a couple. Some of the main characters in the book are Darral puas (Darry), Sodapop, Ponyboy, Steve Randell, Two-bit Mathews (Keith), Dallas Winston (Dally), and Johnny Kade (JohnnyCake). And Bob from the movie.
Do you believe that women have the same rights as men? Do you think both men and women are created equal? I feel that in 1992, Penny Marshall produced and filmed the best historical movie of the decade, “A League of Their Own”. The film was released on July 1, 1992 and was #1 on the charts by the week of July 10. In 2005, AFI’s 100 Years…100 Quotes, ranked the film’s famous quote “There’s no crying in baseball!” by Jimmy Dugan, #54 on the charts (Wikipedia, 2016). I think “A League of Their Own” is the best historical movie ever filmed, because of the informative background and the relation I have to the sport.
Personally, I would have to say "It Follows" is easily one the of most disturbing, scary, edge of your seat horror movie. I was up all night in fear of having It find me. I went home thinking about how scary this movie was, how I had never seen anything more insane since "The Strangers". Director David Robert Mitchell (The Myth of the American Sleepover) gives the horror fans an incredible movie with a message telling us to always wear a condom. Otherwise this unknown force will never stop to rest never stop following you. The music done by Rich Vreeland in this film was brilliant, easily comparable to Tyler Bates unsettling brilliant score of The Hills Have Eyes. This film holds both together perfectly as a masterpiece. The Movie starts off
Did you know that “over 40% of American would move if if someone of another race was there neighbors” (Becker n.pag)? This is because people can not accept change in the way that they live. It is sad to see people not be able to accept people for who they are. Society needs to move away from these habits of judging people by how they look with out knowing what kind of a person they really are. Although racism has been reduced, people of color are still judged unfairly when the community is not ready for change or they grew up that way and when people think they are better than everyone.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Mean Girls, it’s that high school is a jungle and if you’re going to challenge the King (or in this case, Queen) then you’d better be prepared for a fight. Lindsey Lohan (Cady Heron), the new girl in town, battles “The Plastics” led by Rachel McAdams (Regina George) in this hilarious and witty film written by “Saturday Night Live’s” Tina Fey. Fey took Rosalind Wiseman’s self-help book for parents and turned it into one of the biggest teen movies of the decade, leaving youth across the globe begging for more. Directed by Mark Waters, Mean Girls had a whopping 17 million USD budget and was released in all its glory in April 2004.
I have decided to write my film review on High Noon because it is a movie fresh into my mind that I really enjoyed. It is the best movie shown in the class so far. It seems like a movie way ahead of its time for being made in 1952. The exposition was quick and gave us all the info we needed about the characters to move on with the story. The rising action was my favorite part of the movie believe it or not. It shows us even more background and Will's struggle to get people to help. Every time he fails to get someone to help, he loses more and more hope. The point right before the climax was the best acting in the movie. His inner struggle when he was alone and about to fight them four verses one had a pretty big impact. The shootout, oh
Second to win all five major academy awards, ”One flew over the cuckoo's nest” is concidered to be one of the best movies ever made. Director Milos Forman's film based on Ken Kesey's novel was recorded in 1975. We follow R.P. McMurphy into the peacefull environment at a mentalinstitution where he becomes the leader but also a friend to all of the inmates at the ward. Although this might create some tention between Mr. McMurphy and Nurse Ratched which eventually becomes a cat and mouse game where one tries to overcome the other. Nurse Rathed with her power over the ward and Mr. McMurphy together with the inmates. This comedy-drama movie which captures the most unexpected emotions inside of you, should however
The movie blackfish is narrated by former sea world trainers. This gives the movie more credibility(Ethos) because the audience can move easily trust the former trainers point of view to be true. They are speaking of their own experience. They also use actual events for the documentary movie. There was eyewitness to separations the mother wheals to her children. Moreover, blackfish documentary directed by Gabriella Cowper Waite. She has many years’ experience in the field of documentary filming, so it allows the audience to feel they are viewing a credible piece of work. Additionally, blackfish was also funded by CNN. It is a company that many audiences would find trustworthy due to their authority and reliability when it comes
In the short story of Perseus his world is different in some ways. His world started by his mother being thrown into a brass tower at a young age. King Acrisius was worried that Danae would marry and he would have a son in law that would try to take the throne over. One day when the king looked up in the tower he realized Danae had a child and that worried him. He want to get rid of perseus and Danae so it didn't look like murder to the gods he put them on a boat without sails, food, water and said if they live then they are good but he was for sure they wouldn't. They ended up surviving because of a fisherman named Dictys. Dictys took them to King Polydectes, the king of the island called Sephiros. This becomes Perseus's homeland, and thus, his "Ordinary World."
