The colourist I have chosen is Yvan Lucus. Born on May 7,1960 in Cholet, Maine & Loire, France, the movies that he has been involved with are among some of the best to date so far. These include The Runaways(2010 film of the all female rockband known by the same name), Shutter Island(2010 psychological thriller about a U.S. Marshal who investigates a psychiatric facility), Water For Elephants(2011 romantic drama), War Horse (2011 war drama about a boy and the bond between his horse and the war that was tearing through each nation), Snow White and the Huntsman(2012 fantasy adventure based on the novel of the well known fairytale), Django Unchained(2012 western about the crimes of the time and slavery), Argo(2012 political thriller about the Iran hostage crisis), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire(2013 sci-fi adventure about a mass fight to the death... for the second time) and Now You See Me(2013 caper thriller about magicians pulling big heists) and his latest grade being American Hustle(2013 crime comedy-drama about con men trying to frame congress men for taking bribes). Yvan Lucas is not a very well documented colorist however he does hold quite an impressive resume that shows he is a pretty well sort after color grader. His newly graded movie, Maleficent also fits my theme as it is highly accentuated through the use of black and making the black pop on the main character, showing what a hectic character she actually is.
Yvan Lucas seems to focus rather intensely on
Diversity in films is important because representation matters. Viewers are drawn to shows with ethnically diverse lead cast members. Mostly all viewers love to watch shows that reflect and relate to their own experiences. Reddigari, a freelance writer, also expresses the question of why we lack diversity in films. “Hollywood has been producing inspiring films intended to capture the beauty, joy and sorrow in everyday life. As much as we love our favorite movies, we can’t help but notice that many of them fail to capture the life experiences of all moviegoers, leaving the voices of millions of Americans from diverse backgrounds underrepresented” (This Tumblr Shows the Startling Lack of Diversity in Film). Diversity in films is an important topic in society because it represents equality and people of color to look up to.
The Color Purple movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1985. This movie is a reenactment of the novel written by Alice Walker. The movie started with a young African American girl named Celie narrating a letter as she wrote to God. She grew up in Georgia in the early 1900s. A shy, timid, scared, and unassertive girl, who lived in a home with a man known to be her father, Alphonso. She was raped and abused by this man. As the movie goes on, she shares that she has two children by her father and he had put them up for adoption. Later on, as a young child, Celie was married off to a man known by the name of Mister. He needed someone to fill the missing void of his wife who had recently died. Her marriage was quite depressing. She had to raise Mister’s children, clean house, and undergo sex with this man. It was a very dominant marriage. She experienced the same abuse here as she did at home with her father. I believe during that time sexism was heavily portrayed. Time had gone by and Celie had gotten older, she became more confident, outspoken, and she overcame adversities.
Even though the memoir is for the most part a narrative of his family’s background, MacDonald establishes how the difficulties that he came up against while growing up are similar to those that everybody in Southie faced. Everyone in that neighborhood live in a place where violence and drugs are ordinary and typical of that area, yet each person is determined to approach those difficulties in different ways. Some people disregard the difficulties, vigorously turning a blind eye to fact that their difficulties stem from violence and drugs. Other residents enter a never-ending high, attempting to break away from the troubles and heartache of day-to-day life with every drug that criminals present them with. Some residents become even more involved
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been prescribed by physicians for many years now. One reason SSRIs are so popular is because of the many mental disorders they can be used for such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, and many more (Weitzel & Jiwanlal, 2001). The four major types of SSRIs that are most commonly used by people with mental disorders are fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), and citalopram hydrobromide (Celexa); SSRIs work on the brain by acting on the reuptake pathway of serotonin (Stone, 2010). There are some advantages for taking SSRIs. One advantage is that SSRIs have fewer side effects than most of the other antidepressant medications such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclics (Weitzel & Jiwanlal, 2001). Another advantage is that SSRIs have less of a risk of toxicity in overdose (Lane, Baldwin, & Preskorn, 1995). SSRIs are better tolerated than tricyclic antidepressant medication because they cause less sedation and problematic anticholinergic effects. There are also reports indicating that SSRIs have fewer negative effects on the cardiovascular system than tricyclic antidepressants (Edwards, 1992).
The film Casablanca directed by Michael Curtiz and released in 1943—at the height of World War II—is set in December 1941 in Casablanca, French Morocco. It is a time of escalating power of the Nazi party, which attempted to gain control of most parts of the world starting with Europe and Northern Africa. As a result of the ascending power of the Nazis and anti-German sentiments, many Europeans were desperate to flee their homes. Because Casablanca was not yet taken over by the Germans due to its distance from Europe, it served as the holding place or middle ground for those trying to escape Europe, assuming they could get there. People would travel from Europe to Casablanca in hopes of receiving letters of
In the film The Help, directed by Tate Taylor, an important scene included is when Eugenia, mostly known as Skeeter, confronts her mother Charlotte about her childhood maid Constantine. The main purpose of this scene within the film is to help Skeeter find the truth of why Constantine had left Skeeter and her family after all the things they had been through, for the audience watching this answers the story created within the film. Four significant aspects in this scene are dialogue, voice overs, cinematography and the use of sound effects.

The history of colonization of Africa dates back to 1800’s where European nations invaded African countries due to factors such as industrial revolution, need for raw materials, and desire to expand territory. Religion played a huge role in African history since some missionaries who came to African countries to spread Christianity were working together with colonialists. The article, “Role of Missionaries in Colonization of Africans” explains how the missionaries perceived Africans and the African culture. It states, “Missionaries came with the attitude that all things European were superior to all things African…. It was their mission to do anything necessary to convert Africans who were viewed as uncivilized and barbaric” cite The view
Contrasting colour effect is clearly shown On the last panel of page 14, we see the Shah’s police, dressed in black, beating down the protesters, who are dressed in white, that are trying to save the people inside the Rex Cinema. Black in this panel is used to symbolise an oppressing force, and white is used to represent the call for freedom. This particular frame being enlarged, gives the reader a glimpse of how violent the police
Restoration is a film directed by Michael Hoffman and adapted from the Rose Tremain novel of the same title. The peculiar English tale takes place in the seventeenth century, when King Charles II took control of the country, replacing Oliver Cromwell. Along with King Charles’s reign came the period of Restoration known for its return to man and hedonists lifestyles, which replaced Cromwell’s strict Puritan rule. The film beings with a fictional aspiring doctor, who King Charles calls on to cure on of his beloved spaniels, becomes entranced by the King’s web of lies and persuasion and, eventually, is coerced into marrying one of the King’s mistresses. Robert Downey Jr. plays the asinine doctor, Robert Merivel,
Part 1 - In American author's 2009 book, The Help, the primary thesis is the relationship between Black maids and white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s. The story is really told from three perspectives, Aibileen and Minny are Black women, both maids, and Skeeter is the nickname of Eugenia Phelan, daughter of a prominent White family. Skeeter has just finished school and hopes to become a writer. In general, the relationship between the Black maids and the White employers is six sided: On one side we have the White employers who have three views: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that can range from extreme scorn and bias to kindness regarding race; 2) Their public persona that must have the "proper" attitude about Blacks and "the help," and 3) Their employer attitude, which is condescending and parental. The Black view also has three segments: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that usually range from understanding not all Whites are the same and an extreme love and empathy for the White children for whom they care; 2) The public persona that is deferential, polite, and stoic to their White bosses; and 3) Their attitude and view among the Black community, which usually separates the "poor and ignorant but rich" White souls from the Black view of family and common sense. All in all, the relationship is contentious, phony, and based on economic advantage.
The style of edit for this sequence and entire film is continuity editing which produces a logical and straightforward narrative. The sequence begins with an establishing shot of the city road setting, orienting the viewer. The editing follows real-time human experiences, for example, the Tramp enters the paddy wagon then it cuts to him sitting down on the benches with the rest of the convicted, minimizing the perception of breaks between cuts (invisible editing).
As humans we are attracted to tragedy in our everyday lives. For the horror, understanding and contemplation of human nature what else can offer a better summary than Shakespeare? In the play the Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare the story progresses through the vision of the protagonist, Macbeth. Throughout the story Macbeth aspires to obtain more power than his original position, as sergeant, provides. With many dastardly deeds he achieves the position of king, although he becomes a tyrant in the eyes of his people after they discover his wrongdoings. Readers experience the downfall of Macbeth’s morality at a slow but intriguing pace. Albeit, most would disagree that Macbeth was only a vessel of his own fate due to intervening characters throughout the play such as the witches and Lady Macbeth. When choosing who inspired this fate we have to acknowledge all actions which led to his own actions, therefore Macbeth’s demise was a response to every character portrayed throughout the play.
Colours are more important than they are give credit for. A viewers eye quickly catches a bright colour against monotonous background than a blended in color. Its almost human psychology, you notice a man in a bright yellow shirt in a crowded street than a white or grey shirt that blends into the crowd. Use this to your advantage and follow the contrasting colours for best effect. The good thing about colours is that they deeply affect the mood of people. Yellow is believed to elevate people and make them merrier whereas red is believed to be exciting. Talk about manipulating people!
In this reflective paper, I will be talking about the two movies: Matewan and On the Waterfront. I will tell you how each of these movies made me feel while I was watching them. Also, I will talk about how they relate to our HR book. Another thing that I will mention are the different acts and how the outcomes would’ve been different if they would have been in act at this time.
