What Distinct Characteristics Did the Early Civilizations and Empires of the Middle East and Egypt Develop?
Egypt and Mesopotamia developed different and similar political and religious civilizations. Mesopotamian civilizations such as the Sumerians, the Akkadian kingdom, the Assyrian empire and the Babylonian city-state, were all too dependent on the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Egypt’s natural isolation and material self-sufficiency fostered a unique culture that for long periods had relatively little to do with other civilizations. Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization of eastern North Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern country of Egypt.
The Nile River also benefitted Nubia because it provided rainfall in the hot, and dry weather. The Egyptian government adapted from the Nubian language and religion, which is one of the way Nubia had a great impact on Egypt. Meroë was a huge city that was famous for agriculture and trade. In their royal family, women, Nubian queens, had more than usual control of the kingdom than in other places.
There isn’t much known about the Nok people of ancient Africa. It is said that the Nok were a sedentary society, which meant they remained in one location. Nonetheless, they were very talented iron workers with refined iron forges and made complex iron tools. The Nok themselves create their advance iron work through smelting, which is the process of heating metal to extract it in a pure form. This made the Nok a vital part of local
You did a very good job about the details on the Kingdom of Nubia. I totally agree with some of your points about Nubian's culture and lifestyle. I would like to add some information that I think you left out. The Nubians were very unique people, they were very different in many aspects when compared to the other cultures in World History. They were located in the southern, and their lifestyle were influenced by the Egyptians. They later set up a new Kingdom called "Kush", and developped a great trading network focusing more on gold. They did not have an official religion at that time, but they did have temples with Egyptian God. Though they did reach their highest level of political power as the Nubians established the 25th dynasty
The kingdom of Aksum lasted for about eight, hundred years. The kingdom's unremitted location allowed easy access to areas across the red sea, into the Indian Ocean and beyond. This remarkable kingdom was one of the first civilizations in the continent of Africa. Although Aksum had influential customs regardless the kingdom was found off of its indigenous African heritage, having created their mixed ethnicities/customs, a writing system, money currency and religion.
Lately a debate that has the question, was Nubia as powerful and successful as Egypt. See this is a very interesting question, and the topic in intriguing, but I have come to the tricky conclusion that Egypt was better. Today I’m going to explain why Egypt is better by comparing the power of Egypt and Nubia. Not only will I show the strengths of Egypt against Nubia, I will show the weaknesses of Nubia as well, so let’s get started.
In Mesopotamia, there was a lot of fighting and wars. The people were always trying to take on a new city or new city-state to increase their wealth. Things were not the same in Ancient Egypt. In Ancient Egypt, the Nile valley and the distance from potential invaders, kept things calm. This lead naturally to the development of two main kingdoms Egypt and Nubia. Egypt in the north was known as Lower Egypt, and Nubia in the south was known as Upper

Kush - By the time of the unification of Egypt in 3100 BC, several Nubian kingdoms had already been established along the middle Nile between the first and fourth cataracts. After an Egyptian invasion of Nubia as far as the second cataract in about 1900 BC, the Nubian kingdoms formed a loose unity, centered on the city of Kerma, just south of the third cataract. Little is known about this kingdom until it was brought within the Egyptian New Kingdom empire about 1500 BC. As Egyptian control weakened after 1100 BC, Nubia reasserted its independence and became known as Kush. A new capital and religious center was established at Napata, near the fourth cataract, and Kushite culture flourished. Kush’s agricultural economy was based on cattle herding
This nation is known for controlling the Great Lakes in central Africa. One of the first things I did was take a swim in Lake Albert. It was nice and refreshing after the long journey through the Great Rift Valley. The people introduced themselves and said they were decedents from the Bantu tribes. Their food was extremely salty, and I later learned this was because this land was filled with salt. When not on food, it was a good to trade. This kingdom was also very diverse. I met another group of people that explained how their ancestors migrated here from the North. These people were mostly cattle herders, known as the Tutsi and the Maasai. I also found the founders of Kitara were the Abatembuzi. After spending a week in this large kingdom, I decided to move on to the next kingdom. As I left, I noted how there were small cities that formed along the borders of
Geography plays a colossal role not only in countries and continents today, but it was also a tremendous factor in the kingdoms of past history, specifically West Africa. Ghana, Mali, and Songhai are the three kingdoms that made up West Africa in the time period A.D. 500 to A.D. 1500. Songhai was the last of the three kingdoms to arise. However, it’s geography affected the society, culture, and trade of just effectively as the kingdoms of Ghana and Mali.
It is important to preserve the history of Meroe because of the influence the Kush Kingdom had over Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. The Kush peoples trade routes brought new art, languages and religions to the region. The best preserved artifacts of the Kingdom of Kush are located in Meroe. The remnants of their society provide opportunities
I think you did a good job on your post, I like how you answered the question each in a separate paragraph. It makes it very easy for us to read. The people of Nubian Kingdom did not last for a very long time in World History. I don't think that the Nubians made that big of a difference in history, they were very simple and staright forward. Their life did not consist of many battles like we seen in different part of the wolrd. It seemed like all they cared about was to make money and become rich. Their focused were mainly on gold and other good that were traded to make them wealthy. They also did not have much interest in any religious belief, only Ezana, known as the Ethiopian King made Christianity offical at some point, but
Cosmopolitan Africa 1700-1875 was organized in Kingdoms, and there were more kingdoms than the number of states that are present in Africa right now. This is because the countries that are currently marked with the international boundaries had some Kingdoms. Some of the most renowned kingdoms included Buganda, Mali, Ashanti, Kingdom of Saloum, and the Kingdom of Zimbabwe. Some of the earliest civilizations in Africa include the Ancient Egypt, Nubia, Sahel, Maghreb and the Horn of Africa currently where Somalia lies (Worden, 2005).
