Mr. La Bonne is one of my favorite teachers at Stuy. He made Stuyvesant and freshman year amazing. I loved most of the books we read in this class and I especially loved the movie we watched called “Marie Full of Grace” or “Maria Full of Grace” (I can't really remember). This man was so funny and he always just started flaming kids, but in the very fancy way. Class was very interesting and the discussions were always funny, but also very substance based. This class was honestly the highlight of my day, but I think it also depends a lot on the people in the class. People who had Mr. La Bonne 4th or 5th period didn't love the class as much as the people in 9th period. I remember on the last day of class when we were taking pictures and everything, …show more content…
Nieves is one of my favorite teachers at Stuy. His class was so organized and he put so much effort into grading our essays. In fact, he would cut up little slips with our grades and comments typed on them and then staple them to each of the essays. He's also a very enjoyable person to talk to because he's funny, but also serious and very knowledgeable. There were times in that class where I made a complete fool of myself because I talked before thinking but he never judged. I remember there was this one time where he asked what color is the flag and I said “I only looked at pictures in black and white” and he kind of froze, looked at me and then was like “oh” and moved on from there. There was also this time we watched some speech and afterwards when we were sharing what we heard, I raised my hand and said that the guy in the beginning had a higher-pitched voice, while the actual speaker had a very deep voice and that added to the message he was trying to send. Mr Nieves said that guy in the beginning was the newscaster, but I thought Mr. Nieves said that guy was castrated so I screamed, in the middle of class, “he was castrated!!” That was a pretty embarrassing moment, but Mr. Nieves laughed and moved on from there. Overall, this was a very structured class and we were very prepared for the AP. Throughout the year, the class was fun, we had enough time to write all essays, the books were very interesting, and we had a lot of fun in this class. I would recommend it to …show more content…
Henderson will be reading it. It's not that I have anything bad to say because I don’t, I genuinely love Mr. Henderson and his class. It's just weird because I don't want him to think I am writing all these good things because I know he's going to be reading it. Mr. Henderson has been one of the realest teachers I've ever had. He expects us to write very personal essays, but he also shares his personal essays, so it's kind of a fair balance. The books we read in this class range from pretty boring to very interesting. I hated reading Paradise Lost, but, on the other hand, I loved reading Disgrace. The discussions also vary, it really depends on the book. Mr. Henderson tries his best to keep the class engaged. This is my first year doing minutes in an English class and in the beginning I really hated them, but over time I've grown pretty fond of them. After minutes Mr. Henderson always asks us if we have any announcements and I think that's a good way for Mr. Henderson to be updated on our lives and I have no other teacher who does this, so I really appreciate Mr. Henderson for always asking. As for the essays, we always have a good amount of time to complete each one and we also have one extension per semester which is great. This is going to be the last essay I write for all of high school and I hope it will be the best one yet. I know right now this seems like such a dreadful thing, but a few years down the line, I’m
Of the many classes that I chose to take, my two favorites were an English course and Health course. I may want to be a K-9 Officer, and these have few things in common with that career goal, but they were my favorite courses because of the professors who taught the course. Janice (Meredith) Privott for the English course, and Matthew Harpold for the Health course. These two teachers helped push me to better myself in almost every way. Mrs.Privott helped me on a personal level with stress and trauma; from her support she made me a much stronger person. Mr.Harpold helped me with my self-esteem, he took the time to help me when I needed it, even when I wasn’t in his class, just as Mrs.Privott did.
Mr. Voss offers a relaxed, but also challenging classroom environment on a daily basis. He is very interested in the topics covered in class, but also adds his own humor to the AP curriculum. His class is very fun and engaging, and also prepares for the AP Exam in May. Mr. Voss expects for all of his students to work to their full potential and he genuinely cares about his students and is willing to help out students that are having trouble in the class. Every year he has these inside jokes and puns that he makes which are absolutely hilarious. Everyday I truly looked forward to going to his class, and Mr. Voss got me more interested in learning about US History. I now watch history based YouTube videos just because of the class. Mr. Voss has
Throughout my educational years, I had only done writings that involves in small research papers, MLA style essays, and summary essays. However, English 101 has given me a new way to look at my writing skills. Most of the writings I have been doing so far in this course were interpretative essays where we interpreted and reflected on other’s writing and then reflecting back to ours own writing. This class also has given me the opportunity to work with my classmates and a chance to discuss about the writing strategy they made in their papers versus the strategy I made in my papers. In addition, I find the in-class activity to be very useful because it allows me to see other’s perspectives and feedbacks. The in-class activities were class discussions, group works, and conference with the instructor. At the end of the semester, the class objective was to pick out two best interpretative essays that we have been working on with a final reflective essay to include in our final portfolio. So for the rest of this essay, I would like to talk about my two best interpretive essays that I have decided to include in my final portfolio: “Death of a Funeral Business”, and “No Time to think” and “Time Ain’t Money”.
Mr. Rodriguez class was very interesting; the students sat next to each other in rows where there were six students on each row. Mr. Rodriguez has information papers all over the walls, and I could tell he really enjoys being a teacher.
Teaching requires creating a classroom where all students are able to participate in the learning. Chapter 1 discusses the importance language, expectations, and integration. Chapter 1 introduces the topic of multicultural teaching.
In this Summer English session in room 303 I learned a lot of interesting things. I spent a lot of time in this room with several people. I spent my summer school session reviewing texts such as Edgar Allan Poe, and General George Washington excerpts. I found a lot of the text very interesting and intriguing and I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. McGee’s extensive lectures. I absolutely love lasagna. Through his lectures, texts, and interesting insight on respect. I learned several different important aspects in this classroom. However, the three most important lessons I learned were; teachers don’t follow contracts, I absolutely hate writing, and I am scared to be a senior.
few genuinely great instructors at this school that left a positive imprint on all of the students that
In the 8th grade there were two teacher that gave me a good experience at Stanford Middle School. This time it wasn’t math it was english. My teacher name was Mrs.Rooney. She made up slangs and songs. I remembered one time we even acted out one of shakespeare's plays. It helped me understand it better than just reading it. We had debates about topics so we could understand it better. We read a book and we answer questions on it every few chapters. It actually made me read the book when I didn’t want to. She made me want to do a lot of things I never thought of doing. Another teacher was Mr. Faulkner he taught science. Even though the class was not easy he prepared us for high school. We did research papers. When we presented power points we
Thirteen years in the making is this essay. I will finally be rid of English classes. The seven-hour writing sessions the night before an essay is due are finally done. I have been in an English class since I can dot my i’s and cross my t’s. Now that I am at the culmination it is a sappy time. I will miss and be glad I will never have to analyze a book or use a book as a lens for another book. For this course I have taken twelve years of English class and yet this course has been the most difficult of them all. But as the saying goes, “what does not kill me makes me stronger”. This course has made me a far better writer than I have when I first stepped into the course from the first.
Wow, I made it through the second hardest class I am taking my sophomore year, this being a close second to College Prep Writing (next semester’s class). This class has truly changed me in the most interesting ways possible. I actually have found some maturity in writing, something that I didn’t even know I needed until I learned it. This essay compared to my intro essay will most likely look like a Harvard paper versus a community college course high school student’s paper. But that is because this essay has changed me in the most positive way possible. Thank you very much for the opportunity to take this course, and I do strongly suggest it to other students.
I remember walking into the 8th grade hating the sound of “this essay will be written on…” and “turn to this page in your books..”. The only words to describe the pathos that those phrases gave to me were ear screeching, disgusting, nails on a chalkboard, the death of me, and lastly boring. The amount of times I cringed at those words could not be counted on two hands. Writing was boring and reading was a lame waste of time. They would not help me later in life, at least that is what I had convinced myself. A shift in my attitude seemed to occur when I stepped into Mr. Kelse Harris’ room at the end of the hallway where the air seemed a little lighter. My literature fire was re-lit and a flame ignited. It
I just turned in an 8+ page paper! I need some ice cream. And a hot bath. I am seriously in awe that I did it. I dreaded this day since the start of class. Actually, I dreaded the 5-page essay because I didn’t know I would be writing a longer one. I need to stop looking at it since it’s too late now, but I keep noticing little things I wish could change. My daughter just asked how I felt and told me that looking after submitting will only make me sad. Instead I will reflect on the letter I wrote to myself in January. I knew when I signed up for this class it was going to be tough. My first class in twenty-five years! I was nervous and excited at the same time. I remember saying in my introduction discussion that I was “somewhat” excited to in the class.
There are several reasons why I think Mr. Wernicke is so resistant to Kevin’s full time placement in the regular classroom. The first being that he’s very conscientious, so he feels as if he haven’t accomplished what he was supposed to accomplish with Kevin before sending him into the regular classroom. Secondly, I believe that Mr. Wernicke is use to working with Kevin in a private environment in which he’s comfortable, and going into another’s teacher’s space is uncomfortable for him. Lastly, when working on challenging task, I think Mr. Wernicke feel as if the regular classroom will have too many distractions for
One of the most popular teachers among high school students, especially teenage girls, is Mr. Dreamy. He clearly just graduated college because he has the face of a young adult and often can be confused for a student. The girls drool over his chiseled jaw line, teeth that shimmer like pearls and scrumptious chocolate eyes. Almost every girl in his class envies his help with another student. Mr. Dreamy knows how attractive he is and often uses this for the benefit of his class. The better his students do in the class the more notice he pays to the hunger attention seeking students. His classes have the highest passing percentages possibly do to his teaching abilities or his flirtatious ways, but no one questions it, as long as the students are
Mrs. huet was a loud passionate and funny teacher. She would always push us to our limits and then push us even further. I can remember that in the beginning of the year she made a presentation introducing herself to the class; one of the slides showed that her parents were originally from south America. At one point in the year I recall we had to write a story about three pages long in under one hour and a half; it was a wonderful experience, even though it did not feel great at the time, because I learned how to write a lot in very little time
