Some people made bad choices in this story. Steve made a bad choice. I think Steve was the lookout for Bobo and James King because he wanted a cut from whatever they got. Steve was innocent of murdering Mr. Nesbitt. Steve wasn't responsible for his death. First, Steve and James King knew each other. Second, Steve was the lookout for the drugstore hold up. Third, he is not responsible for Mr.Nesbitt’s death because he wasn’t there. First of all, Steve knew James King from the neighborhood. Petrocelli was talking to Steve about James King. “PETROCELLI: ‘Mr. Harmon do you know James King?’ STEVE: ‘I know him from the neighborhood.’ “ They are close friends and they hang out. “CUT TO EXTERIOR: MS OF MARCUS GARVEY PARK in HARLEM. STEVE is sitting on a bench and JAMES KING sits with him. KING is bleary-eyed and smokes a joint as he talks.” …show more content…
Petrocelli was talking to Bobo about Steve being at the drugstore. “PETROCELLI: ‘Can you identify the man from when you got the sign that everything was alright?’ “ “BOBO: ‘That’s him, sitting next to the woman with red hair.’ “ James King wanted Steve to be the lookout at the drugstore. James King was talking to Steve about being the lookout. “KING: ‘Yeah. All we need is a lookout. You know, check the place out make sure ain’t no badges copping some z’s in the back. You down for it?’ “ “CUT TO CU of STEVE looking
But he was away from the store when the robbery happen. So when Mr.Nesbitt got shot when steve wasn’t near the store so steve can’t be responsible for the death of Mr.Nesbitt. But by him going in the store that day and seeing the two in the neighborhood and the communicate they had makes him look involved. O’brien asked on page 224,“Mr. Harmon, did you act as a lookout for the drugstore robbery or check out the store so that a robbery could be safely committed?”Steve said, “No, I didn't.”
Nesbitt and has admitted to participating in the crime, he didn’t know if Steve participated in the robbery. On page 182 and 192 in a testimony between Bobo and Petrocelli Bobo said “ He was supposed to tell us if there was anybody in the store. He didn’t say anything so we figured it was all right I thought King had hooked it up. He told me he had everything straight.” Bobo Evans said that he didn’t think that they had received a signal because Steve didn’t say anything to them. Since Bobo said King had it covered he didn’t know everything about the robbery including Steve’s
Steve Harmon is guilty for all these reasons. Steve said that he was working on a film project for his film class. Although there was proof of the project being assigned Steve could have lied to the court, what if he was part of the murder but he did everything after he had filmed his project. Also, what about the other culprits who were also involved with the murder. They could have been lying, they could have just brought him into this situation just to get him into trouble as-well. “I don’t even remember where I was.” (232) Says Steven Harmon. If he did not remember where he was, then why
I just met the other guy before the robbery went down." What Bobo stated, was that Steve was involved in the crime. Yes, that may not be enough evidence to be sure that Harmon was truly involved in the crime, but then why were all of the rest of the testimony almost exactly the same by saying that they knew Steve, and that he was supposed to be the lookout but got no signal. Furthermore, on page 262 Petrocelli implies in her final statement “ But yes. Mr. Harmon was involved,. He made a moral decision to participate in this “get over.” He wanted to “get paid” with everybody else. No matter how many moral hairs he can split. His willingness to check out the store, no matter how poorly he did it, was one of the causative factors that resulted in the death of Mr. Nesbitt.” In Petrocelli final statement she makes a good point, Steve was involved in the crime. Even if he was just the lookout. O’brien seems to say that there wasn’t a signal in her final statement, but even so, that still doesn't imply that Steve wasn't in the store that
Steve says that the day of the robbery he was walking around and don’t know where he went. He also says that he took mental notes for a new movie he was working on. By taking mental notes he wouldn’t have any evidence as to what he was doing. The state prosecutor, Sandra Petrocelli, could have easily poked holes in Steve’s story. Steve also slipped on while on the stand and said that he did go into the store that day, thus changing his story.
On page Bobo stated that “ King was trying to get the gun away from Mr. Nesbitt and he heard the gun go off. He looked over and saw the guy falling down and king was holding the chrome.” meaning Steve was nowhere near them when they killed Mr. Nesbitt Steve wasn’t responsible for Mr. Nesbitt death because King was the one who pulled the trigger. On page 179 Bobo stated “king was trying to get the gun from him and i was going for the money.
Even though Steve does not seem probable that he had a role in the robbery and shooting, Steve had a diminutive role and could be considered no role at all. Also Steve was talking to Steve and Bobo and could be associated with them and that would be negative because they seem malice. A quote from Bobo and says “
Steve Harmon, is accused of being a monster throughout the entire story, of a crime that he supposedly did not commit. At age 16 he is thrown into prison, and at risk of spending 25 years to life. His prosecuting lawyer wants to push for the death penalty, for the death of Aguinaldo Nesbitt. He is suddenly extracted from everyday life and thrown into a new one, Steve isn’t sure how to handle the profound change. “There is a mirror over the steel sink in my cell. It’s six inches high, and scratched with the names of some guys who were here before me. When I look into the small rectangle, I see a face looking back at me
The fact that Steve talked to Bobo and King before the robbery about the robbery makes him an accomplice of the manslaughter that occurred and also the robbery. Steve went into the store and came out but didn’t give a signal that could still possibly be a signal whether he was a good lookout or not. Also Steve knew what the plan was. He had talked to King and Bobo before the robbery/ murder of Mr. Nesbitt. Steve may have not seen Mrs. Henry in the store at the time, but he could have given a signal saying no don’t do it someone is in the store.
The judge thinks the same thing about him too even though he’s supposed to be innocent until there’s enough proof to call him guilty. "People who are willing to steal and to kill, people who disregard the rights of others" (Page 21). This is what the judge thinks about him, that he doesn’t care about others. In Steve’s mind he’s a part of society and an equal to everyone who's judging him. He knows he didn’t commit the crime since he didn’t even know that there was a crime that happened after he left the drugstore. He’s finally called a bad person by his lawyer due to his age and his race. “You’re young, you’re black, and you’re on trial. What else do they need to know?” (Page 79). This quote describes all his physical features but not his characteristics. His characteristics show that he’s just a person who cares about his friends and family and really likes to learn how to capture videos. He’s not a criminal. Steve is just a person who was at the wrong place at the wrong
In his second paragraph, King addresses the concern of being called an “outsider.” He explains why he is in Birmingham by giving insight on the role he holds in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He speaks on how they have organizations in many southern states. He says, “I am here because I have basic organizational ties here.” (King 1) Dr. King was invited there along with several members of his staff. To me, this makes the men look bad, because they made assumptions before knowing the actual situation.
On pages 149-150, seems unsure about whether or not the robbery is something he wants to participate in as he is talking to James King. On page 226 during Steve’s testimony, he states that he had been nothing more than acquaintances with James King and that he has only casually talked to King about the usual basketball and neighborhood stuff. If you are just “acquaintances” with someone, asking them if they want to be involved in criminal activity is very odd. The fact they are also sitting there having a conversation that even leads to that indicated that they are just more than acquaintances. Steve is also seemed to be very nervous and got his words jumbled up.
Secondly, Steve and Andy chose to hang out with the wrong crowd, which didn 't help them at all when it came to them making the choices they 've made. The Diabalo 's was the name of the crew Steve was hanging out with and that is where all of Steve 's problems started. "I need to get paid, man. I ain 't got nothing between my butt and the ground, but a rag" said King and Steve replied with "I hear that" Peaches also replied back with " Restaurant owners got money, too. That 's the only things left in our neighborhood-restaurants, liquor stores, and drugstores. King asked Steve " What you got youngblood"?. And Steve replied with " I don 't know (Myers,50-51). Steve 's first mistake was choosing to hang out with that crew and his second mistake was getting involved in their conversations about robbing different places in their community because with Steve agrees they were going to think he was down for the robbery and just wanted them to push it on him more. "When Bobo mentioned the other

The concept of affirmative action often sparks bitter turmoil in both the popular press and U.S. society as a whole. You may know that affirmative action is often cited as a way to combat an historical, ongoing, and ever-evolving presence of discrimination within society. You probably also have your own opinions on affirmative action, particularly in regard to college admissions. What
