They hide their earnings from their parents in a piggy bank they named Oz. One day Jeanette tries to find Oz to put her paycheck in. Instead she says to Lori “Someone has slashed him apart with a knife and stole all the money” (Walls 228). The kids knew right away who had stolen it. It was Dad. Without cloudy days the sun wouldn’t be appreciated as much. In Lord of The Flies, the character Piggy acts as a foil to Ralph, the main character, to accentuate how great a leader he is. This is shown through their appearances, how they interact with each other, and the state they are in by the end of the novel. The relationship the two share illuminates the the meaning the book’s meaning that / a person has to be the best to survive in society or lack thereof. / a person can’t have to many flaws otherwise You need to stay civilized to survive. Only the best of the best can survive in society.
"Piggy saw the smile and misinterpreted it as friendliness. There had grown up tacitly among the biguns the opinion that Piggy was an outsider, not only by accent, which did not matter, but by fat, and ass-mar, and specs, and a certain disinclination for manual labour." (Golding 68)
A character in a novel can represent a larger idea in society. In William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, each character is illustrated to represent a larger idea in society. Ralph represents democracy, Jack represents savagery, and Piggy represents a scientific approach.
Many times in a story what the main characters say can reflect their personality and lifestyle. This is shown effectively in the memorial epic by Paul Zindel, The Pigman. The way they met Pignati was when Dennis, Norton, John, and Lorraine were prank calling random people to try to be the one with the longest phone call. Lorraine glanced at the names in the phone book so she could choose who to call. While talking to Pignati she was trying to beat the score for the longest phone call.
