Students in high school usually find it difficult to make a connection with their teachers and students usually view teachers as the “person that gave too much homework.” This way of thinking changes after a few months of school and students begin to accept the style of their teachers. Some teachers earn a reputation of being tough or impossible while others earn a reputation of being cool. Although Mr. Mike and Mrs. White are both demanding teachers at our school, their teaching style, their expectations for students, and the difficulty of the work they assign.
Both Mr. Mike and Mrs. White like to lecture and that is their teaching style. However, they are very different at how they deliver the information that needs to be taught. Mr. Mike’s way of lecturing is boring since he does not interact with the students when he is talking, and he maintains a monotonous tone which hurts the overall learning experience because it almost puts the students to sleep. On the other hand, Mrs. White enjoys when her students participate while she is lecturing as this increases their motivation to learn the material. Mike and Mrs. White both have high expectations for their students. Unlike Mr. Mike, Mrs. White’s expectations are out of this world. Mr. Mike expects to get full effort from his students but he relies heavily on worksheets to get the level of thinking he wants to get from his students. While Mrs. White rarely assigns any worksheets or busy work, she is constantly making you use your brain to understand, apply, and answer any question she might ask. Mr. Mike wants to get the minimum amount of thinking out of his students so as long as you merely understand what he is talking about, you will pass the class.
