One person other than my family member who has positively influenced my life is my previous debate teacher Mrs. Lonnie Martens. Mrs. Marten inspires me because as a previous attorney, she has acquired knowledge and understanding in life that I hope to achieve. If it was not for Mrs. Martens, I would not be where I am at today. During my freshman year of high school, Mrs. Martens saw my potential and took special notice of me. Because of her seeing my potential, it had led to me overcoming my fear of public speaking and as a result, I became a great debater for Inlet Grove Debate Team. Although there were times when I wanted to give up, she was always there to guide and instruct me. Because of her love for law, Mrs. Martens and I were easily
Who are the people in your person’s life that influenced them the most? How did they cause that influence? Was it positive or negative?
My teacher inspired me to go above and beyond my normal capabilities, and to reach out to others that were in distress. He inspired me to become a better leader, a better person, and a good role model for many kids in the classes below me. David Glasscock was his name, he is a generous man he invests in other to provide them with the tools necessary to be successful. Without his words of advice, I most likely wouldn´t be the same person that I am today.
A third person that has greatly affected my life is my mom. My mom was born in America, but she lived in Mexico until her 7th grade year. She is the middle child of three sisters and another three brothers. She is a teacher and has been for over 15 years. She has taught every elementary grade level at least once, and was my teacher for 5th grade. My mom is very determined, she doesn't let anyone make her do things she doesn’t want to do. My mom has taught me many things, one of which is that if you focus on your goals you can often reach
Do you have someone you know that is a great influence on you? Horace Mann was a great American educator. He felt like the kids who were there were his.
Shannon L. Alder once said, “If you were born with the ability to change someone’s perspective or emotions, never waste that gift. It is one of the most powerful gifts God can give- the ability to influence.” This quote above has always been my favorite line of admiration. Up until now, I have been influenced by a lot of people, but the person that I admire most is my older sister, Nhi.
When asked to write about a person who influenced me in a significant way, I chose my mother. Mostly because, her whole entire life is an inspiration, and significant influence on the person I am. LaDonna Dey spent her childhood in a home with a both verbally and abusive father. Her father favored her little sister Lakarla, but claimed LaDonna was not his. My grandmother eventually left the bitter, spiteful, and abusive husband, but the scars remained.
I believe the teacher that has the most impact on me was Mrs. Green. Mrs. Green taught public speaking and it was my hardest class. I had to push myself outside of my comfort zone and talk in front of a room full of people at least once a week. I hated talking in front of people. This class helped me to develop my ability to speak in front of people and become comfortable with who I am. I was not the kind of person who likes to have everyone watch me. For me to have 20 people actively listening to my ideas made me more than nervous, I was terrified of making mistakes. It was through this class that I learned that even if I made mistakes during my speech, the only one who knew that was me.
Wiest took the time to listen to my troubles and work with me outside of class. She even invited me to come drink tea in her office if I needed a break or was not feeling well. But more importantly, she helped me put everything into perspective and I made some tough decisions. I cut down on my work hours, took a few months off from orchestra, took less volunteer opportunities, and learned to prioritize my responsibilities. Mrs. Wiest also helped me with my work when I was falling behind and let me take her finals at different times to balance my work load. I panicked when everything got difficult, but she supported me. If any teacher has made an impact on me during my academic career, it was certainly Mrs. Wiest. She goes above and beyond for her students and wants everyone to succeed. With her help, I was able to succeed during a very rough
Mrs. X. impacted my life in a lot of ways. Growing up I always thought she was a good person. She was one of my many teachers and probably my favorite. She taught us how to be a good student and an even better person. Although I only had her for one year, she taught us many valuable things. She had very high expectations and made sure we reached them. She also, helped us become smarter and helped us learn what we needed to learn in that grade. She definitely made a positive impact on my life. Even though She was only my teacher for one year, she still showed me what it took to become not only a good person, but a good teacher as well.
Throughout my high school career, a teacher that has had an impact on my life consists of Michael Sherwin. He is my Advanced Placement Government and Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher. Mr. Sherwin proves to be prominent in my high school career because his lectures in class are always enjoyable and very comprehensive. He is very knowledgeable on the subjects that he teaches and he is able to provide insight on countless topics. As his student, he is the reason that I have taken the initiative to partake in much more difficult classes throughout high school.
My high school art teacher, Jackie Tingle, inspired me to create and further my education in art. Through her constructive criticism and her wonderful teaching skills she easily allowed me to develop my own skills as an artist. In a world full of two-dimensional characters, I found it amazing that she was a successful artist. Before I met her, I did not know it was even remotely possible to have a career in art. To this day, I still have respect for her and how she carries herself. Even at times when students treated her disrespectfully she remained professional.
The person that has probably influenced me the most throughout my life is my best friend, Jalen Williams. We grew up doing everything together ever since kindergarten. We’ve only had two of the same classes, in kinder and first grade, but outside of school we would hang out 24/7. There was even a period of time when I had to live with him for two years because of financial issues. Jalen has not only taught me what a great friendship is, but also how to find the brightside in any situation.
The biggest influential mentor in my life (aside from my parents) is Erica Ireland by far. Erica is my dance teacher and has always been that person who can make me smile when I’m having one of the worst days. Not only that, but she’s someone that will listen and will make sure that I know everything is going to be okay. She’s been my dance teacher for only about four years, but ever since I started dancing at Studio Dance, I
My homeroom teacher at the time had the most impact on me than any other mentors I had. People say
One person that has influenced my life was a girl named Jordan Lang. Jordan was a senior last year (2015-16) and she had the biggest influence on my school life. Jordan and I did not know each other until last year around August or September. Jordan Lang and I met during marching band. I did not know who she was because I did guard and Jordan did percussion. I noticed that she was wearing a 5 Seconds of Summer shirt after rehearsal and I came up to her and said that I liked her shirt. I don't remember what happened after that. I just knew her as the girl who liked 5 seconds of summer with me. We would hang out and drive in her car before stadium rehearsals or we would go to her house and eat food before we had a 4-hour rehearsal in the cold.
