mother passed away July 25, 1972, missing the union of him and his wife Christine that occurred one month later. This loss of his mother triggered much anger and his wife Christine was later faced with the same physical abuse James Jr. witnessed his mother encountering fro his father during his childhood. This family regulation of the role and power of the man that James Jr. was raised within allowed him to normalize and implement spousal abuse in his own family. This abuse altered the relationships between him and his children. James Jr. has a controlling relationship with his daughter Shelia. James valued the fact that Shelia had to understand that as a woman her role was to cook, clean and be a mother at home as his mother was. This gender biases was created as a norm within the family. James Jr. always praised Shelia when she would do household duties but never if she showed any kind of independence. Shelia was a witness of her mother's physical abuse just as James was of his mother this reflected a generational pattern of roles and boundaries. James Jr. would decline the importance of Shelia, and Christine order within the household. A rule of the family was that James Jr. and Rodney would eat first and the women would wait until the men were done. Later on in life Shelia depends on her father’s affirmation.
