“Spoken communication plays a major role in displaying the personality of an individual. Based on the effectiveness of this means, the prestige, social status and image can be maintained” (Sangeetha, 2012, p. 329). Fortunately, there are assistive technologies such the alternate and augmentative communication (AAC) Tobii M Series.which helps persons with speech and language impairments communicate effectively and meaningfully within the community, regardless of their literacy and language development. In arguing that anti-Confederate southerners played a central role in Confederate defeat, Freehling shifts historical debate to ground that is at once familiar and novel. Historians such as Drew Gilpin Faust and Paul Escott have identified internal disaffection as the primary cause of Confederate defeat while Gary Gallagher has suggested that whites in the Confederacy maintained their support for the government even as military losses ended the war.[1] The South vs. the South expands the scope of inquiry, looking beyond internal fissures within the Confederacy to the divisions in broader southern society. In Freehling's telling, anti-Confederate whites undermined the Confederacy by remaining outside the nation while slaves sapped Confederate
Initiative 42 is the result of nearly 200,000 Mississippians signing petitions to have an initiative placed on the November ballot to amend the state Constitution. If passed, this citizen led initiative will hold the Mississippi Legislature accountable for keeping its promise to fully fund public schools, which the Legislature has only done twice in the past 18 years. That should be simple enough, but Governor Phil Bryant, Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves, and Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn have used their power and position to help confuse the public about the Initiative. Why? Such action is contrary to statements the Governor has made in the past regarding the public’s role in education. For example, in a December 2, 2014 article
Mr Campbell Newman was a popular lord mayor as a member of the Liberal Party, who served the Queensland government for three years from 2012 – 2015 (Lewis, 2015). In the recent 2015 Queensland state election, Newman was heavily punished by the public voters of Queensland as a result of treating the public servants unfairly by cutting jobs in contrast to his promises. He also claimed that there would be no forced redundancies and that he would try to lower the unemployment rate, yet these promises were never met. In support of this, the following essay argues that Campbell Newman didn’t interfere with the free market economy of Queensland, which can be beneficial for consumers in many ways because there is no government intervention. Instead,
Ever since the beginning, slavery has always been a growing conflict in the United States. However in the 1800s, it became such a problem that it nearly separated the whole country. Those that lived in southern states believed that they had the rights to own slaves. They argued that the slavery made up a fairly large part of their economy because slaves labor was cheap. This is why many of the big time planters were rich. Also, they felt African Americans were unfit to survive on their own. Northern citizens felt that there was no need for slavery and that it was wrong. But who is right regarding this situation. It all depends on the individual. The back and forth arguing between the north and south was intense, neither backing down from the
Two Latinas and a baby were stopped by security while grocery shopping, because another shopper accused the dark-skinned women of kidnapping the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde baby accompanying them. It was not until the fair-skinned, blue-eyed, blonde father of the baby refuted the accusation, that the women were released. My mother (who is from El Salvador) and my nanny (who is from Belize) were the two women and I was the baby. My mom and nanny would not have been publicly incriminated and shamed, were they fair-skinned. McIntosh’s article substantiates the ubiquity of white privilege. White people do not have to worry about being monitored while running errands or being pulled over because of their skin color. I agree with McIntosh’s point
Within the last couple of decades, technology has become a huge part in everyone’s daily lives. Everyday we look at our phone almost every five minutes and when we get home we all hop on some other form of technology such as our computers or televisions. However, this is almost exactly what Aldous Huxley and Neil Postman fear. There are some truths and some falsehoods to the statements that Postman proposed such as the idea that we will begin to enjoy our oppression, we will be ruled by the very things that we love, and that we will eventually be thrown so many lies that we will seize to know what the truth is and we will be exploring both sides of these assertions.
In the year of 1890 the Bureau of the Census proclaimed that the frontier was officially closed. For many people finding out that the Golden West was no longer an achievable dream it put many people into a state of depression. A historian of this time named Frederick Jackson Turner, about how important the Frontier was in American history, it was published in the year of 1894 under the title of “The Significance of the Frontier in American History” (282). His argument was that the expansion of the New World was much different from the development of the Old World because “the existence of an area of free land, its continuous recession, and the advance of American settlement westward” (282). Also that the frontier made it possible of the
On the seventh day of the Scopes trial, the argument between Darrow and Bryan began to shake the people’s belief in creationism. Darrow asked Bryan a variety of questions regarding miracles such as the creation of Earth in six days, the exact time that God had created Earth, or the time period and the logic of the Flood. Instead of answering those questions with biblical contexts and clear explanations, Bryan repeatedly said “I don’t know,” or “I think there maybe” in between his answers. Despite of his assertion of the fact that human should not further doubt the validation of the Word of God, his answers for Darrow made him appeared as an unsure and flustered person. This image of Bryan, though unintentional, altered the public view of Christianity.
Lindeen takes the perspective of gun control away from the people. He says the regulation of gun control does not need to be through gun control itself, but through the actions leading to the gun control. Lindeen states in his paper “ sloganeers make the concept of gun control or no control an easy thing to grasp and causes easy thoughts” (1659-1660). He looks at both interpretations of gun control and states there are other ways to help control violence then just taking away guns. According to him one of the problems is people do not know much about the data or the statistics. People only go with the facts they grew up with. People tend to not go on the computer and look up statistics about guns and deaths by guns. He also states the information

Tran and Strutton have been able to prove that viewers change their whole lifestyle to obtain these standards; “Viewers often copy celebrities’ hairstyles, employ their nickname, or mimic stars’ clothing, lifestyles, or verbiage” (Tran & Strutton, 2014). It is crazy for an audience of a show to feel like they need to change and be somebody else. The negative influences of these shows are definitely affecting ones reality.
