Mud volleyball is exactly what it sounds like, adding the risks of playing in muddy terrain to the already extensive risks of volleyball. As a Director of Recreation in the process of creating a risk management plan, my responsibility is to identify, assess, and mitigate all associated risks involved. For a one-day charity mud volleyball tournament to raise money for cancer, it is essential that I develop a plan that accounts for the outstanding risk factors, such as the terrain, weather, temperature, and the players’ health and safety, and ensure that all participants are aware of the risks before allowing them to play. While there are many underlying factors and categories of risk management, I am going to mainly cover the components of …show more content…
I would adopt the policy and procedures of USA Volleyball, the governing body of volleyball in the United States. For staffing, the event staff would include the tournament supervisor, faculty, refereeing officials, and all other event personnel. As it is a charity event to raise money, my goal is to have mostly volunteers working the event. As the director of recreation for this event, I will be the tournament supervisor, and monitor the weather conditions throughout the event. Campus police will have two officers working the event to help with directing traffic and parking, as well as being on standby if needed and monitoring the proceedings. Members of the volleyball team at the college will referee the individual games, and graduate athletic trainers will be at each game as first aid responders. By splitting the responsibilities among all staff and assigning different roles by what’s known as a transfer of risk, it becomes much easier to micromanage and oversee the event, as well as giving each person a direct responsibility to maintain and be accountable
This decision is about liability of a Waverly Council and the Australian Sports Oztag Association for damages arising out of an injury suffered by Mr. Salvo who injured his knee while playing Oztag on an uneven ground. The Court of Appeal dismissed Mr. Salvo’s appeal on the basis that neither the Oztag Association nor Waverly Council had acted negligently and that Mr. Falvo had not shown that any breach of duty of care caused these damages. The District Court trial judge, Hungerford ADCJ, concluded thatt the playing field was consistent with acceptable standards for playing sports such as Oztag .That Oztag was a “dangerous recre-ational activity” within the meaning of ss 5K and 5L of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (New South Wales). This meant
Magna Carta, which means The Great Charter in Latin, was a key document created in 1215 in order to keep the kings from abusing their powers. Before it was established, the kings were above the law. For example, if a noble asked a king to pay for the firewood the king cut down from his land, the noble could be thrown in jail simply because the king wished for it to happen. In 1215, the nobles and lords became tired of, the ruler at the time, King John’s ways, so they started a rebellion. After the capture of London by the nobles, King John felt threatened and therefore started negotiating with them.
More than Excellence Flight is a film about a remarkable pilot, Whip Whitaker. Although he was heavily drunk and drugged, he was still able to fly the plane. Furthermore, when the plane experienced mechanical failure, he flew the plane invertedly so that it will slowly dive and stop losing its altitude. The plane stabilized for a while, but as he realized that he would not make it to the airport, he rolled the plane again and crashed in an open field near the church. After the accident, Whitaker was hailed a hero because did a miraculous --- he flew the plane invertedly, land it to safety and saved ninety-six out of one hundred and two passengers, which no other pilot was able to do even in simulation.
A controversial topic in the world of sports currently being debated is the question of how safe Synthetic turf fields are for players of all sports. Amy Griffin, the back up keeper for the women's U.S. national team, presented a list of 200 players that have been diagnosed with cancer over the years. This list of 200 players contained 158 soccer players, 101 whom are goalkeepers. Studies have shown that players that have high skin to turf contact are diagnosed with some type of skin related cancer, or disease. The questions comes down to this, how safe is it for our beloved family members to be participating in activities on these synthetic fields. Today, thousands of studies are conducted to decide whether or not these fields are safe. When
Basically, spike ball can be described as team sport that is closely related to the game of volleyball. In this sport, teams normally line up across each other and a net at the center separated them. The ball is normally put into play by hitting it with a server from behind the service boundary into the net to the opposing team. One the ball has been served, the players can move to any place they wish to prevent the opposing team from returning it. Each team is allowed a maximum of three touches. The spike ball community is growing very fast and the sport has gained wide popularity in colleges and there is already a national spike ball league in place. Teams are required to pay an average fee of $ 30 where the tournament directors keep 75% of the fee while the rest is retained by the company.
When going into this class I was very excited about our event project. I have participated in two golf tournament fundraisers for my high school, CrossPointe Christian Academy, and I really enjoyed helping with those events. I was very excited and curious on how a video game tournament would go. I was looking forward to the challenge, and the overall learning experience it would be. This paper is a reflection on the preparation for the event, and the actual execution of the event itself.
In the beginning of the season, the Sherwood High School girl’s lacrosse team had enough to field two teams, a JV and a Varsity, but by the end of the season, there was only enough to field one team. At one point in the season the team had 8 out of 26 girls out with concussions Team statistics such as this, have the lacrosse community in an uproar over whether or not to mandate helmets for all levels of women’s lacrosse teams. The debate has arisen out of an increase in concussions and the recent research which has provided more insight to the science of the brain and its injuries. Those in favor of a new headgear mandate suggest that it will prevent concussions and be safer for the players, but
Older turf fields made from nylon or nylon/polyethylene blend fibers can contain levels of lead that pose a potential public health concern. Excessive exposure to lead, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ATSDR), can lead to toxic affects regardless of the exposure pathway. Studies have shown when sliding on the sharp plastics of turf rather than natural grass athletes are seven times more likely to receive a turf burn which in turn increases their risk of receiving MRSA or a Staphylococcus infection. Another massive concern of health comes from Amy Griffin, an associate soccer coach at the University of Washington who discovered two soccer players, which were both goalkeepers, that were diagnosed with cancer. Goal keeper is a position that frequently dives and is thus almost always in contact with the turf and as stated before it does not matter the exposure pathway. As Griffin told NBC in 2014 she’d heard from 38 soccer players who’d been diagnosed with cancer. That tally has climbed to 220 athletes — 166 of them soccer players. There are also concerns about more minor problems that players Alex Morgan, the United States Women’s National Team forward has stated, “The achiness, taking longer to recover than on natural grass, the tendons and ligaments are, for me at least, I feel more sore after turf. It takes longer to recover from a turf field than natural grass.” Especially for someone in her position training for the World Cup, recovery time is critical. The new health problems caused by these plastic fields are constantly being discovered, and it seems to be an endless
The first article that I have selected is titled Racial Minority Women and Criminal Justice Responses to Domestic Violence. It is within this article you gain insight from 14 women of different minorities who expresses their experience when it comes to dealing with domestic violence and the criminal justice system. These women all from different areas and backgrounds recount their experience when it came to dealing with domestic violence and their decision to whether or not to involve the authorities for reason or another. When it comes to domestic violence those from different cultural backgrounds my elect how they address the issue vastly different. In a society where some cultural belives that in a marriage or relationship what happens
Sports can be a very dangerous game depending on how you play the sport. You can be to aggressive in the NFL and seriously hurt someone despite the gear you wear. You can be a MLB pitcher and mess up on a pitch and hurt a player by throwing a pitch at a player’s head. You have to be very careful how you play the sport you are playing. Sports are supposed to be competitive and fun, but you have to remember to be safe and care for the other competitors you are competing against.
Children can receive overuse injuries and stress fractures. I play volleyball and I am one of the hitters. I
Enthusiastically, the planning of the event would consist of monitoring the national weather forecast, before the event was scheduled to be held. In the event that the weather was predicted to be dangerous or life threatening, the event would be cancelled and notifications would be made via the agreed upon social media sites and other methods that would provide the public with the cancellation. In the event that the baseball game has begun and severe weather unexpectedly appears, I would make the decision to stop the game and guide the attendees to a safe location. If I am unable to attend the event, an employee will be assigned the responsibility of ending the game and providing leadership to the other team members. Overall, my team and I would exemplify learning from the Louisiana State Fair, by our strategic planning, preparing, monitoring, and acting, in all of our appointed roles. As a team, we would work together with a spirit of resilience and social responsibility to serve, protect, and represent the mission of our

in several sporting activities, given health and safety consideration it is recognised that a sports organisation or individual owes a duty of care to its members. However it is also understandable that accidents can and do happen and that it is not possible to predict every eventuality. Liability for the legal duty of care would only arise when an incident occurs and it can be shown that the risk was foreseeable but no action had been taken remedy
High school sport injuries have become such a common incident. Precautions are not taken as
