Osama bin Laden came from a very well-known Saudi family (Rosen). His father had his own successful construction company and was even close to the royal family (Rosen). His father died in a helicopter crash when Osama was only ten years old (Rosen). Bin Laden inherited a portion of his father’s fortune and became very wealthy (Rosen). However, bin Laden wanted to do something incredible in his own right to really live up to the “bin Laden” name (Rosen). He ended up finding a way to do so by successfully leading Afghanistan to defeat the Soviets
Usama bin Laden, born in 1957, comes from a wealthy Saudi Arabian family that owns a multinational construction business. He used his inherited wealth to finance Afghan forces fighting the Soviet Union's occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980’s. After the 1991 Gulf War, he was distressed that Saudi Arabia allowed U.S. forces to remain in the Arabian Peninsula. To advance his agenda of expelling the U.S. from the Islamic world, he worked with other anti-Western fundamentalists to organize a secretive, highly compartmentalized terrorist network, known as al-Qaida. It is through his upbringing, education, culture, and wars in Islamic countries, that Usama bin Laden has sought to purge the
Army, Dwight D. Eisenhower, General of the Army, U.S. Army, or George Washington, General and Commander in Chief, of the Continental Army ( Bender, J ). People of respectful military status or wealth often gain influence with said power, so is it understandable as to why Osama would be looked upon to lead. Osama left college in 1979, he then ventured across the Saudi Arabian border into Pakistan and joined forces with who would later be one of the co-founders of al Qaeda: Abdullah Azzam. The two associates used money, and mechanisms from Osama's construction company to supply and reinforce the Mujahideen. Who were resisting the Soviet Union from advancing on Afghanistan. In the eyes of his mujahideen brothern Osama was seen as a leading factor as to why Afganistan was sucesfully protected. When Osama returned back home his name had already been spread around as now all of his sournding neighbors believed from his actions that Osama was their to help and is acting in the peoples intrist. Osama bin Laden is a political icon to the people of Afghanistan. He has created a modern day crusade against western civilization that people support because of his rhetorical ability to create, not only through speech, but also through his actions, an insightful philosophy that has moved thousands of people into action against the United States. He was able to achieve this because he chose a religious path that people supported; he took influential persons in his life and his familial background into his radical stance on Islamic government and created an historical movement that has affected thousands of people.
Once said by, Malala Yousafzai: “In many parts of the world, especially Pakistan and Afghanistan, terrorism, war and conflict stop children to go to their schools. We are really tired of these wars. Women and children are suffering.” Many terrorist groups are taking over Afghanistan and fighting with governments to keep old traditions and cultures around in the country. Al-Qaeda groups were created by Osama Bin Laden. He was a man who fought to keep people and islamics culture together they were called “freedom fighters”. By the 1980’s, he was working to build roads and hideouts and made a base camp for training terrorists. When the Soviet Union separated from Afghanistan in 1989 and Saudi Arabia began to support the United States and move away from Islamic principles, Bin Laden became an outspoken critic of the
5). During this time, Islam became more than just a religion to bin Laden, he began to adopt a more radicalized view of the world and extreme his religious ideals began to shape his political views. By the late seventies, bin Laden was actively involved with the extremist group and joined in “the jihad” (holy war) against the Soviets when they invaded Afghanistan in 1979. Bin Laden used his connections and wealth to help finance and support recruitment and training of jihads against the Soviets, in addition to developing a “Golden Chain” of financiers that helped fund recruits into Afghanistan. During this time, the United States and Saudi Arabia were spending billions of dollars of assistance into training rebels in Afghanistan in order to fight against the Soviets. It was during this time that bin Laden and his associate Abdullah Azzam created Al ‘Qaeda (the base). The U.S. was unaware that they were providing training and secret assistance to a future enemy. The Soviets finally pulled out of Afghanistan in 1989, but bin Laden and his associate had already decided that al ‘Qaeda would not dissolve. Azzam was killed later that year, and bin Laden became head of the organization. The organization remained relatively underground whilst it prepared for its fight against the West. The tipping point for Osama bin Laden was when Iraq invaded Kuwait and the Saudi
In 1989 while living in Santa Clara, Mohamed attempted to obtain a job as an FBI Interpreter with several offices throughout the U.S. but was denied employment form all but the San Francisco FBI field office. In 1995, Mohamed obtained employment with the Burns International Security Company, a private company that provided security services to businesses and government agencies. The company assigned him to a security guard position at the Northrop Grumman facility that developed sensitive components used in nuclear weapons. Mohamed sought a security clearance to work in the facility's classified areas, but his application was denied (J.M. Berger, n.d).
The US led Afghan war ignited soon after the 9/11 attacks on America, killing approximately 3000 US citizens in New York City at the time of George W Bush’s presidency. The tragic attack was brutally carried out by a prominent Al-Qaida Leader Osama Bin Laden, who had just fled his hometown in Saudi Arabia and was living in Afghanistan’s rugged mountains of Tora Bora. The Taliban Government heavily dominated Afghanistan at the time Osama Bin Laden carried out attacks on US soil, and he claimed responsibility for the attack subsequently. As a result, US requested the then Taliban leaders Mullah Omar to hand over Osama to the US authorities since he was responsible for the ferocious inhumane attacks on the US soil, killing thousands and damaging millions of dollar worth of property for revenge and retaliation purposes. The then Taliban leader rejected the US’s offer and denied giving up Osama to the US authorities considering him a special guest, and giving up guest was significantly against cultural code and values for the Taliban, especially for Mullah Omar – the leader. Therefore, George W Bush declared war on Afghanistan, sending thousands of troops and attacking the country. However, taking revenge, retaliation from Osama, and even demolishing Taliban’s terroristic domination over Afghanistan was a reasonable excuse for the US to take immediate action, but sending thousands of US soldiers who some didn’t make it back home, spending billions of US dollars, which also caused
Fazlullah was the leader of the Taliban and the first thing he did to gain power over the people was get them to like him and believe in him. He told people that he was an Islamic reformer and an interpreter of Quran. He created a radio station for the people to listen to. On this radio station he would cry about his love for the country and would talk about the “good habits” he wanted the people to adopt. He would also use the radio station to persuade the people to abandon their practices because he claimed they were bad for the country. A man named Shah Douran would also come on to the station and tell the people to stop listening to music, watching movies and dancing because those things were all “sinful acts” and those acts are what caused
He came later in history, born in 1925, and passing on the twenty-first of February. He had lived through a very rough time frame, since he was African American, he was discriminated against and treated very unfairly by a lot of people in his community. When he spent time in jail for larceny, he was sentenced to ten years in prison and he spent his time reading and studying for the lack of education he had. Soon after getting freed, he quickly put effort into his activists movements, causing the National of Islam to grow rapidly. “Due largely to his efforts, the Nation of Islam grew from a mere 400 members at the time he was released from prison in 1952 to 40,000 members by 1960” was explained in the article. Him fighting back and being so persistent in trying to fight for the rights of people’s lives, ended up causing his unfortunate assassination while preparing for a speech in the Audubon Ballroom in
War in Afghanistan started in 2001 as a result of the 9/11 bombings. The US government claimed that the Taliban was hiding the Al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden. The
Natural disaster happen all the time and nothing can be done when it had happened already. It hard to move on with life when there are deaths and houses totally destroyed. It will take time before everything in the community is back to normal and take times before people move on with their life, putting back the bad memory. Sometimes when it occur so often it could be frustrating. Once it had been destroyed by the storm there only two choices either leave to find new home far away from the ocean or rebuild it again. A community that were destroyed by hurricane should rebuild because it will bring back memories, create more jobs, preserve tourist attractions and it is the home of many Americans.
In 2009, Harper Lee’s bestselling novel To Kill a Mockingbird was banned in St. Edmund Campion Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario after a parent complained about the use of inappropriate language in the novel (Javed 2009). To Kill A Mockingbird, considered one of the best novels of the 20th century, is also one of the most controversial. According to the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, it is one of the most challenged and banned classic novels (Downs 2016). Although this novel has been banned in many schools and school boards across Canada and the United States because of “inappropriate racial and sexual content”, To Kill a Mockingbird thoroughly bespeaks the absurdity of the inequality and discrimination
He became the leader of the organization the Taliban. The Taliban was rooted in a strict version of Islamic Law that basically made the guidelines for being what the Taliban interpreted as a “good Muslim” enforced by the law. Things that were options, such as men growing beards and attending religious services regularly and women not working outside of the home were responsibilities the new regime endowed on the people. In the Taliban’s quest to impose Islamic law, they attracted Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida to the cause.
