Muscular endurance is defined as the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to repeatedly exert force against resistance.
Muscular strength is defined as the maximum amount of force that a muscle can exert against some form of resistance in a single effort.
Body composition is a measurement of a person’s fat mass and fat free (lean) mass. Also, body composition is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone, water and muscle in human bodies.
3. In relation to your current / past physical activity habits please explain your results for each component (3)
In general, my overall fitness is quite good. To elaborate, my muscular endurance component has two results. To explain, my push ups result is slightly above average according to the

Consequently, my biceps still have a fraction of that strength left.
Personally, I have never measured my precise body composition. In other words, I don 't know the exact percentages of elements that compose my body. However, I do know that my waist to hip ratio is 0.73 which means that I am at low risk of obesity. Being active as a child and doing exercise in moderation is probably the reason why I am at low risk. Also, I am at 23.0 on the BMI index, which is considered a normal weight. It is a little higher than expected because my BMI used to be 20.5, when I was boxing three to four times a week. Since 20.5 is considered a normal weight, my weight category has not changed even if the amount of physical activity I do has decreased.
4. Choose one component that you wish improve upon. Please explain your rationale for why you would like to work on this component. Keep in mind that you will create an action plan towards working on this component on your next assignment (1)
The component that I would like to improve is muscle strength because it is where my greatest difference is. To precise, both exercises have two completely different results. For example, my 1RM (one repetition maximum) for a single deadlift was 150lbs which is considered “beginners” because it is only my BW (body weight) and for my flexed arm hang, I am considered “excellent” because i held my chin above the bar for 35 seconds. As a
Body composition provides an overall assessment of health and it is important in assessing an individual’s risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, high blood, obesity and some forms of cancer. Body composition indicates the proportion of essential fats and non-essential fats in the body (ACSM, 2012). An optimal health range has been established based on the difference in age, sex, height and weight. Individuals above the established range are at increased risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity (ACSM, 2012). While, individuals below the established range are more likely to interrupt the delivery of key vitamins and nutrients to the cells of the body as well as adversely affect the proper functioning of their reproductive
Muscular endurance is being able to work a muscle or muscle group for a long period of time at less than maximum effort, (Amezdrox, G. Dickens, S, Hosford, G. and Davis, D. 2012). Muscular endurance was tested by completing a sit up and push up test. My rating for the sit up test were super and for the push up test my rating was excellent, (see appendix 1). These tests were chosen instead of others because if you have a strong core whilst playing touch football, it is seen that you can perform better and this is what these tests work on, (Touch Football Australia, 2013).
The higher the number, the more the body fat a person has. BMI, however, does not work the same way for everyone. Bodybuilders may have a very high BMI, despite not being obese, leading to incorrect readings and on the other hand, older people might have low BMI, but that is because they have lost muscle mass and not because they are obese. Hence, BMI is different for every person and is not a good way to generalize how a person’s physique should be judged. BMI should be evaluated by a health care provider who will be using various sources, along with BMI, in order to figure out how unhealthy or fit a person really
23. Body mass index (BMI) is the ratio of fat to lean muscle mass in the body.
1. Strength is operationally defined as the maximal force that can be exerted in a single effort. Using this definition, strength should be assessed using one repetition maximum (1 RM), though we often estimate strength using tests that may involve multiple repetitions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines body mass index (BMI) as a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity. To determine BMI, a person’s weight, in kilograms, is divided by the square of the person height in meters
My body mass index or BMI was 25.8. With me weighing one hundred and fifty-five pounds, this puts me into the overweight category. With this, I am also at a very low risk of getting any diseases such as high blood pressure or obesity. Also, I had a waist circumference to height ratio of 33/65 or .5. This puts me into the acceptable category and I have a very low risk of getting diseases such as cardiovascular disease. If I increase waist circumference to height ratio just .1, it can increase my chances to getting any of those diseases.
Another components of physical fitness this fitness equipment meets is muscular strength because it “forces your muscles to exert against resistance for short duration.” Muscular endurance is another component of physical fitness because it is a sustained muscle contraction that can last less than 90 seconds. This physical equipment also meets the flexibility/mobility component because it allows for the range of motion possible for your joints and it determines the efficiency of the
The most widely used method to measure the relation between health and weight is Body Mass Index (BMI), but we can also measure waist circumference to check any excess of fat.
Power is the rate at which work is performed. It has a speed component to it, unlike strength. The explosive aspect of strength is referred to as maximal muscular power and is the functional application of both strength and speed of movement (Kenney, Wilmore, & Costill, 2015). The Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnt) has been proven to be a tool that is reliable for assessing muscular power, endurance and fatigue. A study was completed in order to determine the relationship between upper body strength and power and on the upper body anaerobicperformance. A bench press and bench press throw was used to determine upper body anaerobic performance and was measured during an arm ergometry WAnt (Lovell, Mason, Eagles, Shewring &Mclellan,2011).
Overweight is often misinterpreted as obesity, but it has been proven that individuals such as bodybuilders and professional athletes can be overweight yet they do not suffer from obesity. Obesity refers to just excessive body fat whereas overweight refers to excessive body weight including water, bone, fat, and muscle. A certain amount of fat is needed to store energy, heat insulation, shock absorption, and other functions, but when men reach more than twenty-five percent body fat, and women reach more than thirty percent they are considered obese. A person’s body mass index (BMI) is measured by dividing body weight in kilograms by the square of body height in meters (Wilmore, et al., 2008).
The value of muscle strength is important because that helps an individual burn as much fat as possible without having to starve themselves. In addition, aerobic exercise is fun and also helps anyone lose weight when done in the appropriate way. Furthermore, aerobic exercise can be performed not just by yourself, but you can also bring your whole family to join and stay fit. The impact of variable intensity level training would help an individual build more muscle when performed on a daily basis. Since the training is intense and is not like simple workout, then of course the person is going to sweat more than usual and that would burn off calories and also help build muscles on the arms and legs as well. The myths that are associated with strength training is that you can get as large
As soon as the body is strained, the survival system is going to begin working, and the body will react by repairing the muscle tissue. This procedure of repair actually commences as soon as you cease working out. As the human body is trying to keep you alive and also in good health, it will now rebuild the muscles larger and more powerful, as a way to guard it against a similar danger in the future. So this expanded size and strength is a natural evolutionary reply to the micro-tears, and the entire body tries to repair broken tissue brought on by strength training.
This is a laboratory report on measuring body composition. The aim of the laboratory report was to compare two different field methods skinfolds and bioimpedance analysis to measure body composition and evaluate the most reliable doubly indirect method to measure body composition. A number of studies such as Kitano,T have shown a strong correlation between skinfold and bioelectrical impedance analysis and tend to have an average body fat difference of less than 0.6.
Muscular endurance is very important for people playing sports and who have to sustain an activity for long periods of time. Muscular endurance is determined by how well your slow twitch muscle fibers are developed. In case your wondering what slow twitch muscle fibers are, I will explain. There are generally two types of muscle fibers in your body, slow twitch and fast twitch. Slow twitch muscle fibers cannot exert as much force as fast twitch, but can sustain an effort over a much greater period of time. Fast twitch muscle fibers can exert a great amount of force but for a very limited amount of time. Therefore, slow twitch equals endurance, while fast twitch equals strength.
