Flashdance--Cr@p I'm old. Okay, it's best not to do the math in this case, but the musical film Flashdance was barely 32 years ago. I think I just broke my hip, and excuse me, while I step outside and kill myself (while wearing a cut, ripped, off-the-shoulder sweatshirt that I used to wear as a dress back in the day). The 80s were a great time for movies and music. When the two merged, it was pure magic: Footloose, Flashdance, Dirty Dancing, Beverly Hills Cops, Romancing the Stone, etc. Fabulous artists like Phil Collins, Pointers Sisters, Billy Ocean, Irene Cara made the movies even more memorable with their theme songs. I really didn't care about the controversy over the uncredited dancer who did the difficult routines. You mean movies aren't real? Critics panned the movie, but the target market loved it. We just cut the necks out of everything, and worshiped the scene where Beals takes her bra off under her off-the-shoulder sweatshirt. …show more content…
Then I sang "What A Feeling" in the shower. As I daydreamed about trying to do the splits- both ways – I imagined myself slipping on the soap, so that ended that fantasy. The two and half minute hotter than the core of a nuclear reactor dance sequence with Cynthia Rhodes as Tina Tech still haunts me to this day. Will I ever be able to run up a wall and do a back flip? Okay that is putting myself out there but a more embarrassing statement - leg warmers. Over jeans! I rest my
The 1980s was a decade of revolutionary changes on the music scene. The two major developments were the advent of MTV and the compact disc. Music became more diverse, with new wave, heavy metal, rap, techno pop, alternative rock and the "new" country sounds. And music became a huge marketing tool as filmmakers, TV producers and manufacturers of everything from sneakers to soft drinks used hit songs and hot performers to sell their products.
While reading page nine through fifteen in the Wake Tech English 111 Reader I learned new strategies and tips on how to improve my song summary essay. I learned how to implement new strategies in my song summary essay so that I could write my introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion proficiently in my paper. Mutually, before reading the Wake Tech English 111 Reader I also did not know that when writing a rough draft for an essay a conclusion, introduction or body paragraph could be written first. Similarly, Ashley I always thought that an introduction had to be written before any other part of an academic essay. Primarily, I thought that an introduction had to be written first because my previous English teachers stressed
I have two first impressions after reading the book That Deadmans Dance. The author Kim Scott uses vivid imagery to describe the landscapes and the characters dialog. As Scott was describing the sea and the landscapes it brought back my early childhood. I spent time as an adolescent living on an Umnak Island in the middle of the Aleutian chain located in the bearing sea of Alaska. All of Scott’s imagery brought back the times I spent watching the whales migrate listening and feeling the wind and sea beat against my skin. I enjoyed remembering my youth while reading this book.
Adoff makes music with the words and space in “Street Music” by writing all the descriptive words by separating each letter of the word with spaces and the words that made a sound would be written normally, without spaces in between the letters. For example, at the beginning of the poem, the speaker describes the city and where the noise in this city is coming from. Hence, he separated his words into letters with spaces, an example from is when the speaker states that “T h i s c i t y:/ t h e / a l w a y s / n o i s e / g r i n d i n g” (1-5). Another example of this is “an o r c h e s t r a” (24). On the other hand, words that are used for the actual sounds are written normally in this poem, such as “slamming from bus tires” and “taxi horns”
“Deer Dance” by Male Yaqui performers takes the listener to a spiritual place. The mood and vibe deer dance creates is very traditional and takes one into an almost meditative state with nature. The Deer Dance is the epitome of traditional Mexican music and dance and it employees many traditional instruments. Chanting was the most common sound heard through the entirety of the song and that to me was one the key components that gave this song a traditional and historic sound. The chanting was very repetitive along with the rattles being very repetitive as well but only in the beginning but then the drumbeat took over with a very fast beat.
The 1980s was full of so many important events and extravagant sports. There are a variety of historic and sport events that influenced what was popular in that time period. The 80s was filled with new advancements in television broadcasting sports for women and many other important historical events.
The 80's were life changing years in music history. They were called the “decade of excess” by some and the way people could enjoy music was forever altered. The 80’s brought music to life with stunning displays of special effects ranging from anything fireworks being blasted off at concerts to using computers to alter the sounds of instruments to make new sounds for people to enjoy. People could now watch music instead of just listening to it.
The piece of art I chose is is a song that I listened to a lot as a kid and still listen to today. The melodies and instruments transcend the lyrics. However , the lyrics hold so much more. I lived on a fire station as a kid when this song came out. Actually it was a tape in 1985. I thought because of the association with my dad being gone on fires all the time, that this song “The Working Hour,” related to him and his need to be away working on fires all the time. As an adult, I still feel those feelings as I did when I was 7 yrs old, however now I am the one working. I do the same job, and the working hour means something more to me now then it did when I was a kid waiting for my father to return from fires. This was a time when work to
The 1980s were a very iconic decade in time, a lot of things that happened then have effected how things work even now in 2015. Sports memories, history. and titles were all changed in the 80s. Fashions were created and remodeled. Some of the most famous musicians ever debuted their hits in the 1980s. The 1980s truly has changed our generation and i’m sure very many to come. Many things have changed since then and im excited to see what is to come.
The first time I dance in public was for a T.V show. There were a lot of people, including my family and some friends. Everyone was so excited because my sister and I were going to dance on TV for the first time. The director yelled us to be ready, so all of us ran directly to our places. The lights turned off, some Sr. started to count out loud: “6, 5, 4…” and then with his hands “3, 2, 1…” And the music began to sound. I can barely hearted it, I was so concentrated trying to control my heartbeat and not vomit. Suddenly at the middle of the song I had no idea of what I was doing, I had forgotten the choreography completely! So I got paralyzed and didn’t make any move until the song was over. Of
AMSTERDAM — Obviously I know, but what fascinates me is how this human dance could be a response to almost any event - good or bad - the camera phones, the monopods and selfie sticks, press photographing the press. And about how watching the event through our device screens we miss things like the boats lying across the water, or the two people in the middle, maybe individuals, maybe friends caught up in
What do you think of when you think of music during the 1980s? Do you picture the stereotypical neon colors or leg warmers mixing with loud electronic or pop music, or do you see more? Music had more of an impact than one individual would think. Along with the famous singers and bands that rose to fame, fashion styles, trends, dance moves, and new products all come with the 80s. The 1980s has forever altered how America as a whole views music because of Music Television, musical icons who rose to fame, and the trends, styles, and products that had been born.
The movie Flash-dance incorporates atmospherics to control the direction of light, as well as to create a more visually intriguing movie. The opening scene uses steam, smoke, and fog to emphasize the environment these characters live in and to highlight the element of water that is present throughout most of the film. Moreover, in the opening scene the choice of using a wet ground really helped in reflecting the light and picking up highlights, this added depth to the scene.
It’s hard to talk about music today without bringing up music from the eighties. Some of the artists today got their ideas and musical talent from watching their idols from that decade. For example, Usher credits his dancing and musical talent from Michael
The dance that I will be focusing on is entitled: thinking sensing standing feeling object of attention. The dance, to me, symbolizes the socialization of persons in Western civilization concerning gender roles. In the beginning there are gestures that are separated from emotion and full-embodiment, but as the dance progresses the gestures become more meaningful and recognizable. The lighting starts out very specific and narrow, then the light encompasses the entire stage, and eventually the dancers are silhouetted as they return to a familiar movement motif in the end. The music is mainly instrumental with occasional soft female vocals, and the lyrics suggest emotion, which is interesting because the dancers do not convey emotion until
