Have you ever wondered who were the most popular artists in the past 100 years? From the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s in addition to the 2000s each decade birthed many talented artists whose music has lived on and will live on many years after their time. I have checked the billboard top 100 singles charts of each decade and chose artists who I think best represent the most popular music of each respective era. Join me as I take you on a trip through years of popular top charting music!
Let’s start with the fifties. This is an exciting time for American pop culture in my opinion. War has ended and most of the world

She even has two other singles that are in top 20 for the 1990s which are “Fantasy” and “Dreamlover”. Carey continued to top the charts in the 2000s with “We Belong Together”. “We Belong Together” is number one on the Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 Hits of the 2000s. Carey has sold over 200 million records worldwide to date. Mariah Carey has also won many awards. Her most notable awards were in 1991 and 2006. In 1991 she won a Grammy Award for “Best New Artist” thanks to “One Sweet Day”. In 2006 she won a Grammy Award for “Best R&B Song” with “We Belong Together”.
Each decade birthed many more talented artists than I could have possibly listed. The artists listed were top selling and great representations of each decade’s popular mainstream culture. They have and will stand the test of time. Their music will continue to live on forever even after they retire or cease to remain on this
Over the years, African American Music has developed as not only as cultural but also artistic phenomenon affecting the world. The music takes its own stand of being dominant as well of having a prevailing means of expression through the use of the lyrics. The lyrics of many songs tend to use a specific type of language in order to create that connection between the listeners. This certain style of language helps the listeners to think on a deeper level about the real meaning behind the lyrics.
When I was in fifth grade, I was caught between two worlds, playing a woodwind or string instrument. If I played a woodwind instrument I would have to blow in it to make music, but string instruments are played with a bow to make music. After much thought, I decided that the violin was the best instrument for me, because it has a beautiful, unique sound, plus the possibilities are never-ending. I could receive a compliment from a teacher, or even get accepted to the symphony.
Romantic Dates: 1800-1900 1. What was going on historically during this era? What was life like? Profound Political and Social changes going on; many moving into cities for work. Throughout time music has been constantly changing and evolving, eventually causing it form to what it is today. As time has gone on, different genres of music have been introduced and became popular such as Rock n Roll, Blues, EDM etc. However, regardless of the genre of music, they have all come together to modernize and serve the purpose of entertaining the audience. If I were to induct modern musical artists, due to their popularity and overall impact on society, into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame it would consist of: Dr. Dre, Drake, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
We can usually listen to the music in various scenes in life. But we don't often just concentrated on listening. The same was the case with me before. Especially, I was ignorant in classical music. But now I like listening to orchestra concert from the front row seats. It is a quite wonderful experience. Since my children start learning how to play the violin, I came to listen to classical music. After I could a little understand artistic features of classical music, I listened to it with rapt attention. I especially came to like Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. I was listening it through only my computer, but on the whole I was satisfied.
Rock music went through this period right at a time when America had a new generation of people who had time to go to concerts and some money to spend on them. At this same time, mom and dad were making a return to the lives of their kids (p. 70). One could always wonder if Buddy Holly and his band had lived, what evolutions music may have made. Would the Beatles and the Monkeys have made the trip to the United States and had a vacuum of artists to step into? Maybe rock did not influence the era as much as the era created a fertile environment for “Rock ‘n’
The 1890s is often referred to as the "Gay Nineties," meaning it was a time period full of positivity and hopefulness. This is evident in the music of that time period. Some of the popular songs from this era are "My Old New Hampshire Home" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever. " Two of the most popular songs from 2015 were "Uptown Funk" and "Cheerleader." Just by glancing at the titles, you may think that music of the 1890s is completely different from music today.
In unit four we learned about the faces of totalitarianism, the Berlin Wall, The Atomic bomb, The U2 incident, The North Atlantic treaty Organization (NATO), The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), D Day, and many more. But the most outstanding Trend/event/action is the culture of the 1950s. This Culture includes things like music, media, and other big time trends back then.
Who is the most popular musical artist in the last fifty years? This question has a variety of different answers, depending on who is being asked. There have been many influential artists in recent musical history. Some of these musicians, such as the legendary Elvis Presley, have had a profound impact on modern culture beyond the scope of their lifetime. During the late 20th century, one such man developed a career in the United Sates that would last for over 50 years and would inspire many other artists to pursue their careers. This man was Frank Sinatra. During his lifetime, Frank Sinatra managed to change modern music forever. Frank Sinatra is widely considered to be one of the greatest performers in the history of modern music.
The top rock and roll songs in the 60’s were ( I Can’t Get No ) Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones that is number one. The second top song is Respect by Aretha Franklin and the third one is like a Rolling Stone by bob dylan. Here are some cool facts about theys artist. Originated in london/united kingdom amd started in 1962. Aretha has a total of ten grammys.
The Musical Composition that has changed my life to how I see music is the song The Stroke from Billy Squier. I did not really know the meaning of the song, but it really Widened my Horizon in terms of music from only before listening to The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Monkeys. Then later being able to listen to Rush, AC/DC, Aerosmith And Other Really good rock bands that I still love today. Then I started collecting Records then I started collecting CDs, the first album I bought for myself is the majestic Black Sabbath Album “Paranoid” The album with the musical compositions Paranoid, Iron Man, War Pigs/Luke’s Wall, Planet Caravan, Rat Salad, Electric Funeral, And Fairies Wear Boots. This album was such an amazing introduction to Black
Music is not just a person manipulating an instrument by simply pressing a few keys and a note is produced. How that note is interpreted is up to both the composer and the musician. By putting emotion and stylistic elements such as, for example, a ritard, can change that section, or the entire piece. Even putting it into another key, such as going from a major key to minor one, can drastically change the piece. Music should not be limited to just the listening portion; it should be felt as well.
Rock music has come a long way since its development in the early 20th century. The genre, defined “as a merger between rhythm&blues and country” (Scaruffi, The History of Rock Music:1955-1966), started out more as an underground market, but ended up becoming a significant aspect of American popular music history. Rock-n-Roll music produce many legendary artists who will for ever be known as innovators of the genre. Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry were some of the many artists in Rock-n-Roll who will always live on in their music. Many teenagers were also to identify it due to its rebellious nature their disapproval of the cold war. Towards the end of the 1950s, Rock-n-Roll was ending on a particularly bad note, with a brief decline:
Let’s jump a decade. Now we are in the era of a musical revolution. Nothing like it before or since has been as influential as the sounds of the Beatles, Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Moody Blues – and dozens more.
The second artist I choose for my final is AC/DC. AC/DC is a hard rock band that formed in 1973. They have influenced generations with popular hard rock that when people hear it, it takes them back. In the beginning for AC/DC, they struck oil! In 1776, they went international with the album High Voltage which included that single and T.N.T. One artist who influenced AC/DC was Led Zeppelin, he showed AC/DC how to take rock n roll fundamentals and make them even harder. What made AC/DC so different was they were formed in Australia. On almost all of their songs, you can pick one song and right into the intro, it gets your blood pressure going. AC/DC is arguably the best at intro’s and overall music. There’s kids still wearing shirts that have
