Music Festivals Vs. Rock N Roll Music

Back in the 1950’s the music industry was beginning to evolve in America, and its traditional roots were beginning to diminish rapidly. At this time in American history, music was beginning to enter the electronic era, in fact, the whole country was swiftly transitioning into a realm of advanced technology. However, this foreign realm was not comforting to many people, especially to the adults of this time. Likewise, in today’s culture, youth and adults have different perspectives on the world and often have conflicting views on certain aspects of society. EDM music is often preformed at Music Festivals such as Tomorrowland, Electric Zoo, Euphoria, Lightning in a Bottle, and Movement where large crowds of thousands of people between the ages of 16-25 gather to experience an almost euphoric escapade with fellow EDM music enthusiasts. However, with this many teenagers in one place there tends to be a certain aspect of peer pressure hanging over the patrons that attend these events. A severe drug problem has been associated with EDM music festivals and has given a bad reputation to these events. In an article titled “Drugs, Death and Dance Music,” there were two reported deaths of a University of New Hampshire student, Olivia Rotondo, and a Syracuse University graduate, Jeffery Russ, which due to consuming synthetic versions of Ecstasy at the Electric Zoo rave festival in New York (Knopper). Teenagers tend to take these drugs in order to enhance their experience at these events or take them in order to “fit in” with the crowd. What these teenagers do not understand is that theses drugs can effect peoples ability to make decisions and can also alter reality. Drugs are a major problem in todays society and not only do the actual drugs themselves pose a threat to the youth, but synthetic versions of these drugs can be even more dangerous. Events such as EDM festivals, have become havens for these types of drugs and society often associates EDM with drugs because of the abundant use of them during the events.
