Though all these musicians lives were dramatically different, they share one thing in common; a lasting legacy. Each one of them are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! They all had loyal and dedicated fans. Most importantly, they inspired new musicians. That’s the magical aspect of the 27 Club. Despite Buddy Holly, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain dying young, their legacy will outlive any life they could’ve had. The music that they created will never truly die, because it affected people into making new and ever changing music. That's the power of the 27 Club.
Jerry Lee Lewis deserves to be in in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because he changed the way that people thought that Rock & Roll should be. He introduced the piano to the Rock & Roll scene which was unique at the time and people thought that, that was amazing. He also brought in a new attitude towards what people in Rock & Roll should be like, he was seen as the bad boy of Rock & Roll. One issue that occured with his third wife put his career in a setback and he stopped producing hits and canceled the rest of his tours.
Both the radio and records have had significant impact on the development on rock n’ roll. Similarly, the radio and records gave musical artists an extended ability to stretch their audiences. Strongly intertwined, while they both gave listeners the ability to find artists they like, there are some clear differences between each the developments of the radio and that of records. In the years prior, the music industry was built on the “Tin Pan Alley” system that strictly controlled musicians and popular music (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p. 2-7). And much like the spirit of rock n’ roll itself, people within the industry eventually grew tired of conformity and no longer felt the need to follow the rules. Radio stations started forming separate licensing companies (BMI), which allowed them to play what they want (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p. 7). With an “open door” policy that allowed broadcasters to play music they wanted, radio stations had the important job of sharing a variety of music that could be heard all across the country. The radio began to function as a way of transporting records and genres of music all over the country from the traditional cultures they formed, which includes R&B, blues, and country. This reshaped the music industry by expanding its reach to new audiences. This, “allowed songwriters working outside of mainstream pop to claim royalties on the use of their songs on broadcasted
Tupelo MS is where it all began. The birthplace of Elvis Presley, it is also the birthplace of rock-n-roll and the transformation of American culture. Now, as it was then, this small town in the north-eastern corner of the state of Missouri is rather off the beaten track. But it still attracts a steady stream of visitors, from boomers reliving their greatest years to millennials trying to understand what the fuss was all about.
The 27 Club is a concept referred to popular artists that have tragically passed away at the age of 27. Artists such as Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, and many other artists are members of the 27 Club. Fans began to connect the dots in the early 1970s when artists were dying two years apart at the age of 27. Many people believe it is a curse, while others believe it is a coincidence. All the artists in the 27 Club were at their peak of fame and becoming extremely wealthy.
Since 1983, obviously, the goal of every band is to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Understandably, not anyone can be inducted in to this prestigious club. In order to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame any songs recorded less than 25 years ago will not be eligible. Most importantly you must have a superior catalog of music. Out of the 15 nominees for the 2016 inductees, I was intrigued with learning more about The J.B.’s, Chicago, Janet Jackson, Deep Purple and The Spinners. Born in 1982, I hardly knew any of the contenders; although, I was eager to explore and possibly joining a new fan club.

African American music pioneered modern music today, however, genres of music created by African American are being culturally appropriate. Scafidi claims, “Because African Americans weren’t widely accepted in U.S. society at that time, record executives chose to have white recording artists replicate the sound of black musicians. This led to musical forms such as rock-n-roll being largely associated with whites in spite of the fact that black musicians were pioneers of the art form. This move also had financial consequences, as many of the black musicians who helped pave the way for rock-n-roll’s success never saw a dime for their contributions to the music (Scafidi 2005).” Historically, Caucasian music artist have been imitating African American
Don’t you think that certain people deserve certain awards for what they do? Some people are really talented at what they do. That is why I have decided to give Mr. Barone The Music Man Award. There are many reasons why I would give this award to him, as he has done such amazing things. If I had to chose three reasons why I would give this award they would be because he teaches the wonderful art of music to everyone at the school, he is extremely talented, and makes learning music together fun.
The emergence of Rock and Roll was one of the most pivotal moments of our nation’s history. The impact that this genre of music made is still evident in our culture. However, before this genre was able to gain momentum, it faced many cultural conflicts. The book, All Shook Up: How Rock ‘N’ Roll Changed America by Glenn C. Altschuler analyzes the impact that rock and roll music has made on American culture. It explores how the Rock and Roll culture was able to roughly integrate and later conflict with preceding cultural values. This is especially apparent in chapters regarding race and sexuality. Overall, Rock and Roll was extremely controversial amongst parents and educators. This new music genre was condemned by the previous generation as
My research question was about how icons influenced the evolution of rock n roll throughout the decades. My first product idea goes with it, because I could display how much rock and roll has changed by playing an older popular song verses a newer one. I feel that relates to is, because people can hear the differences. My second product idea, actually involves a concert. How that relates to my research question is it gives me the chance to experience how the artists felt before performing. Also, I can perform just like certain decade(s) and show the how much it has changed.
Rock ‘n’ roll has made an extreme impact on the American culture for individuals and their growth in society. Rock 'n' roll is a form of music that has made many opportunities possible for the American people. This category of music has also opened doors for future generations and America's evolution. Berry continued to release singles, that reached popular status with both black and white listeners. The actual birth of Rock N’ Roll is a mix between Country, Blues, and R&B. White kids were tired of listening to the same old thing, and when they heard black artists on black radio stations, they were hooked. It was this new sound that propelled the birth of rock to where it is today. Chuck Berry helped create this new sound, with the songs of “Johnny B Goode”, “My Ding-a-Ling”, “Maybellene”, and many others. If not for his specific sound, we would not have the genre of Rock N’ Roll we have today.
I am one of those rare “millennials” who appreciate pop culture from the past. I don’t forget about them; I carry them. I got into rock ‘n roll music since I was born. To me, rock ‘n roll music made me the man I am today.
The rise and popularity of rock and roll music reflected the divide between teens and adults during the 1950’s and the 1960’s because the lyrics caused the teens to rebel. The word Teenager was created in the 1950’s due to the tremendous population of those in this age category and because teenagers started gaining more independence and freedoms. Teenagers were able to buy more things like food, clothes and music because of an increase in spending money. Teenagers were also becoming more independent in the type of music they preferred to listen to, no more listening to what their parents liked, teens flocked to the new music of the decade, which was rock and roll. Growing up as a teenager prior to World War II, teenagers were
Rock and roll has developed a long way throughout the years from a dance craze in the 1950’s to a political and cultural landscape that is recognized worldwide. Rock and roll has come to define the roots of teenage rebellion, people who don’t follow the norms, and have disrespect for authority. The style of rock and roll itself is a melting pot of music, a combination of sounds that include jazz, country, blues, ragtime, gospel, swing, classical, and ethnic music. It can be a simple variation of three chords to a complex chromatic scale combination. It can convey emotions such as love, hate, fear, lust, sadness, joy, disillusion, or a strong sense of reality.
