When experiencing certain physical and emotional pains, people often think that medication is the only cure. However, in recent years different ways of healing has broken through the old beliefs. One of these healing methods is music therapy. Music therapy is the prescribed use of music and melodies to help restore, maintain and improve the emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual well being of an individual. Music therapy is a popular form of healing, it can affect our health in ways medicine cannot, and can also be performed at home when professional attention is unavailable. It is incredible that something used for leisure can be such a powerful healing agent.

The music may cause a patient to be able to explain certain things, which they could not normally, or to recall a particular memory.
Music affects people in such powerful ways, ways that not even medicinal and operational care can compare. Certain research has shown that music with a strong beat can stimulate brainwaves to work in the same rhythm as the music, with faster beats bringing sharper concentration and more alert thinking, and a slower tempo promoting a calm state of mind. By changing the pattern of brainwaves, bodily functions can change also. The functions that are directly linked with the nervous system, like breathing and heart rate can also be altered by the changes music can bring. A slower song can cause breathing to slow, helping someone experiencing trauma relax. Music can also help to keep depression and anxiety at minimal levels. This can help prevent stress from wreaking havoc on the body, and can help keep creativity and positive thought levels higher.
