Music is an integral part of who I am. To say that I am interested in music would be an understatement, as I am constantly growing in my passion and talent for music.
One experience that has shaped my love for music is being a member of the Composers’ Guild, which is an extracurricular activity unique to Morton High School. While I was in this group, I learned basic music theory, participated in experiments and activities in music composition, and I have received feedback and performances of some of my pieces. I have also composed twenty pieces of music and heard live performances of four of my pieces as of fall 2017. Three of my works have been performed by Illinois Wesleyan University musicians at annual MHS schoolwide concerts showcasing
Music plays a big role in my life. I listen to it everyday. Music helps me process what emotions I am feeling that day. Emotions such as anger, happiness, depression and anxiety. For example in 2011 my commanding officer for young marines died. Then three month later my grandfather passed away. Everything felt hopeless, I was depressed and
Music is a passion of mine and has been for a long time (it's in my blood.) My dad played the bass guitar in a few groups, and he sings in our church's choir. His taste of music has been passed down and adopted by my brother and me.
I have been since I was 9 years old, when my legs were too short to reach the pedals on the piano. Ever since the first time my fingers brushed over those keys all those years ago, music has been the very basis of my individuality. Being a musician has shaped my life in ways that cannot be described. My creativity in my musicianship has allowed me to flow into fields like photography, film, and other forms of art. I’m more inquisitive in general, and I believe that’s a direct result of being a musician.
Music, it helps the world go ‘round. Whatever kind of music you like, how often you listen to it, it's all up to you. Most likely, you will enjoy many different genres. Often times, it helps you express yourself beyond speech. And like the French poet Victor Hugo said, “ music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that cannot remain silent.”
I am passionate about playing music, being successful academically, and lastly I am passionate about using my strengths to help others. I am a member of our very own Stockdale High School Marching Band, and I am also a member of the Stockdale Jazz Band. Music is like an escape for me. Whenever I am feeling down, I will play some music and instantly feel better. I want to show people how music can be an outlet for anyone. I am quite the perfectionist so it is very important to me that I remain academically successful in all my classes. I enjoy using my strengths in academics to help others achieve academic success.
At the beginning, music has and always will be an important thing in my life. When I am on a road trip or am doing something that takes an extended period of time, I know I can turn on Spotify and drift into my own world. Also, if I ever feel perturbed or dejected, I can listen to my favorite album and feel great again. Third, music helps me prepare for activities such as football games or school. Lastly, music assists me whenever I’m working on something such as homework or a project for school.
Music is my life when I was little my dad introduced me to all types of music. We listen to hip-hop, reggae, old school, country, and jazz. We believe that as long as it has a good beat and a message that what makes that a great song.Being that my dad is from New Jersey I have this Northern flavor to my lifestyle. It is truly present in my taste in music. Many people say that I'm a little weird when they listen to the type of music I listen too.
Growing up, music has always been a passion of mine. I listened to everything and anything. I would go to jazz concerts, operas, orchestra performances, or to a rock and roll music festival. But that passion bloomed into something more as I grew older. It blossomed into wanting to learn an instrument. I got to seize that opportunity when it came time to attend middle school.
When I was about 12 years old, I began teaching myself how to play. As the years went on and I practiced in my room, I became a decent guitar player and singer. Eventually, I performed in front of my family, friends, church, and school. Music is something that I have a great appreciation for because of the power it has. Music can bring people together, fill a room with the strong Spirit of Christ, or simply help a person escape from the world he lives in for a little while.
My love for music is rooted in the solid musical foundation my parents set for me. From taking me to my first concert when I was two, to teaching me how to play guitar at the age of four, music imprinted itself on me early in life. I started playing the flute in 5th grade, and since then, my life has never been the same. Continuing to play the flute throughout high school has allowed me to be heavily involved with the music program. I have been an active participant of Concert Band, Jazz Band, Honor Band, Pep Band, and Marching Band.
I am a dedicated and conscientious student in class, and a key member in many extra-curricular activities. As a keen musician, playing violin, trombone and piano, I contribute to a number of musical ensembles in school and played an integral part in the organisation of our school’s summer concert. I am also a member of several local youth orchestras and bands, with whom I have toured abroad many times, most recently to Italy, France and Belgium.
Music has certainly filled up my life. It’s a way for me to relax, focus, have fun,
Music has been a part of my life since the beginning. My Grandma Hammond, a music teacher, had me start right off into piano when I turned 7 years old. She has been my music teacher since then. I was taught all genres of music starting from classical to what is popular now. My favorite genres to learn were Jazz and Rock music pieces. I remember when I was the age of 12, I begged her to let me learn and play the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen for one of my music festivals. My Grandma disagreed at once about my idea because it was required of the piano students to play a classical piano piece. I was a good student and learned that festival piece, but little did she know I would also teach myself Bohemian Rhapsody and play it after my classical

Music \ˈmyü-zik\ n: the art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color. Yes, this is what music is, but for me it’s more than just this. In addition to this academic meaning, music is the joy of creating sounds of any sort with the purpose of expression. It’s the interpersonal connections formed by the mutual enjoyment of acoustic craftsmanship. Music has taken a leading role in my life, as much of my activities are music based. One recent event that exemplifies my heightened interest and considerable talent in music is my success in the University of New Hampshire’s Summer Youth Music School (SYMS).
