Like a dog does tricks for food, Mansa Musa did a variety of activities to spread word of his fame. Mansa Musa, an ancient ruler of the kingdom Mali in Western Africa, ruled from 1312-1337 BCE. While Mali was under his rule, Mansa Musa, expanded gold-salt trade, built a large standing army, as well as took part in one of the 5 Pillars of Faith, a holy pilgrimage known as the hajj. Although the hajj is a religious event, Musa used it as a tool to do much more than show his devotion to Allah. Through his need to prove his importance, going out of his way, and creating impressions, Mansa Musa’s main intention while going on his hajj was to spread his fame.

The journey of Mansa Musa was a famous trip that stretched from the ancient city of Mali to Mecca, the birthplace of Islam. Mansa Musa, a rich, prosperous man who took advantage of situations to benefit himself, not only wanted to spread Islam throughout his hajj, but to show off his wealth, to give compulsorily, and accumulate trade partners.

One afternoon in Cairo my voice started hurting so much because i have to tell soooo many stories. I just want to go back to Mali. But i still have one more stop until i hopefully go back home. Mansa Mu8sa treated his hosts very well. He was spoiling and generous by giving gold to his hosts. Also Mansa Musa’s actions affected the Egyptian economy and currency by causing a depression and value of gold went down.
