There is not one specific factor that causes obesity, but rather a combination of multiple factors such as genetics, environmental, social, and physical factors. First of all, some people can’t help it that they are overweight or obese. They might have a medical condition like a thyroid problem, or might be disabled from an injury. If they are overweight because of this or any other health ailments, it shouldn't be held against them. People like young children can’t control what their parents feed them either. If a child’s parents only ever give them soda and fast food and chips and cookies, it is no wonder that they gain weight. It isn't always a person’s fault that they’re overweight.

Increasingly high obesity rates among the U.S. population have both personal and societal ramifications. For the individual, increased body mass has been linked to a myriad of health issues including heart disease, Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, cancer, strokes, kidney & liver disease, and hypertension. Furthermore, these individuals subside the average person due to their obesity; a disease that affects 70% of American adults. Consequently, this disease causes an increasing amount of heart diseases, strokes, high blood pressure, and diabetes in our current community. It is agreed upon our society that these individuals who suffer of obesity have been looked down upon and are put at risk of discrimination regardless of how hard we try to end it. Obesity is not only a cosmetic problem; it is also a health hazard. People eating themselves to sickness are a disgrace. It is a choice that many will continue to make. Some people think of obesity as a worldwide killer because there is no outrunning it if it overtakes a person’s body.
