Throughout my accomplishments , and even disappointments I have been specially proud of the dedication I posses for my personal beliefs and values. In 2 years I developed from being a really shy , quiet person to an active member of the society that strives to take action and make a difference. Being the Secretary of the Interact Rotary Sponsored club has cultivated great sense of leadership in me , I’m also an active member of other local clubs and I’ve taken part in charity events and I modeled for a few as well. Being a a gymnast has taught me that quitting never feels as good as conquering your own fears and that’s exactly why I’m always challenging myself. Participating in the YES program is a challenge that wont only highlight
The actions of the members of the Shay’s Rebellion were justified because state officials took their land, to pay their own debt. Shay’s Rebellion was a fight against government control. The country after the Revolutionary War was severely damaged especially in the trade market. The British cut off trades in the West Indies market crippling the economy. Due to the poor economy the farmers had difficulty selling their products and being able to pay the money requested to the government to pay off their war debts. This enabled the states to take the farmers’ land to pay the state's debts. Shay’s Rebellion, although dangerous the rebellion wanted to force the government to making their own money and create new policies in order to pay off the
To proving that I’m eligible for this incredible honor and responsibility will be challenging for my actions do not reflect my true character. This organization can help me show my beautiful colors and share with the
This past year, I have been motivated to keep up my grades and work hard because of Adams' National Junior Honor Society program. I have aspired to be in the Society since I read it over the summer on the Adams website. I was so excited when I received this letter because it meant I had a chance at making the program. I want to be in NJHS because it will teach me how to manage my time, organize events, and work with others. Working with others who also value academic success contributes to my will to be in the program. Together, we can help each other grow and thrive in the community. We can also collaborate to help those in our community who aren’t in the position to speak out for themselves. I read about an NJHS group that organized an event where they donated toys to children who are less fortunate. They spoke out in school and changed the lives of many young, unhappy children through the program.
I am genuinely honored to be one of the few students considered for acceptance to the State College Area High School chapter of the National Honor Society. I feel that my hard work and dedication in academics is beginning to show through. Throughout my life, I have shown drive and devotion for everything in which I have been involved, ranging from athletics to academics. My mentality has always been focused on helping others. For this reason, I aspire to become an orthopedic surgeon so that my career will evolve around helping others to get the most out of their lives. My summer will be spent volunteering at Phoenix Rehab for fourteen hours each week as it will allow me to begin providing care to the community. Currently holding an unweighted
Having grown up in the Tahoe Truckee area, my participation in athletics, and a multitude of other team based activities, have consumed a vast majority of my teenage life, and have aided in my finding a variety of things I am passionate about. These activities have taught me many important life skills that I am able to contribute to both the Team community and community as a whole. These competencies include a strong sense of leadership, accountability, a clear sense of self, and effective communication, all of which I utilize in my day to day life. These skills also provide me with the ability to set effective goals and accomplish them.
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
Though I haven’t had the most involvement in extracurricular activities, I have been trying to turn that around. I joined FCCLA at the start of freshman year. FCCLA was an excellent experience to improve my leadership skills, as well as getting engaged with the school and community. This ranged from helping out with school activities, to collecting and organizing books to be donated to children, and crafting dog beds to donate to the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I ended up not resigning up for FCCLA the following year due to my dealing with a difficult death in my family. However, since then I have gotten stronger and want to expand my community involvement. For that reason, I joined Student Council after the end of my junior year. As a representative, I help in school activities and decision-making. Though I’m a newer member, I’m excited to be a part of the Student Council. I have also recently joined the Science National Honor Society. I was able to join this club because of my accomplishments in science. I doubled up biology and chemistry my sophomore year, challenged myself by taking AP Chemistry my junior year, and am currently enrolled in the Pharmacology Technician program at Kirkwood as a senior. I am eager to see guest speakers and have already signed up for a couple of community service activities in this
Athletics has played an instrumental role promoting success in all branches of life impacting my performance in school, work and other life facets. Involvement in athletics taught me the value of commitment allowing me to play in Division 1 Women’s Soccer while attending the University of Washington. As a former student athlete, I have been winning and losing my entire life developing my own resilience and tremendous work ethic to work with others toward a common goal. My drive spills over into my professional interactions and career aspirations allowing me to connect
One of my most cherished thoughts is that all goals are in grasp if you can work hard enought and long enought you can achieve them. I also believe with dedication any person can reach what they dreamed about.
To this day, I am gradually overcoming the severe anxiety and shyness that I have faced my entire life. I currently maintain a 4.0 GPA with all honors courses while attending a plethora of events for Key Club, Able Ministry Outreach, Boys & Girls Club, and more. Interacting with people in these ways not only broadened my awareness of different causes, but also of how important it is to take initiative. By being in National Honor Society, I could surround myself with new people with similar great intentions for impacting the world--from those who wish to establish peace, provide resources for the needy, or more. To ensure future success, I will challenge myself academically with AP and Running Start courses as well as being more involved in community events.
In volleyball and basketball, I have been selected as team captains and awarded all league 1st team honors. Also in basketball, I have led the state in 3-pointers, broken the school record for 3-pointers in a game, and received Honorable Mention all-state. I am Student Council Activities Chair, the class of 2018 treasurer, three-time yearbook editor and FBLA public relations officer. The past three years I have competed in District and State FBLA competitions where I received 3rd in Journalism, and 1st place in Word Processing my junior year at districts, as well as getting 5th at state in Publication Designs. By not only being involved in various organizations, but holding leadership positions in them has taught me leadership skills and
The death penalty has become a heavily debated topic in society, due to the uncertainty of its moral context. Supporters of the death penalty reason that those who have committed blameworthy crimes should have their lives go worse as a result of their actions. They believe in retribution. Protestors of the death penalty believe that it is counterproductive. They say that by legalizing the behavior that the law is trying to prevent, which is killing, they are being hypocritical. William Baude’s article raises the question of whether or not the death penalty is constitutional. The death penalty has plenty of ethical, legal, and moral matters associated with it. The moral dilemma of the death penalty can be viewed from deontological and utilitarian perspectives. Both theories allow the death penalty to be a morally acceptable punishment, but the difference is the reason behind each theory.
The 1970 's was my era of middle childhood development. This was still a time of turmoil and racial inequality. Being a black child gave me few advantages growing up during this time. I attended decent schools, lived in a middle class neighborhood, and was socially active. I was a nerd, but not in the best sense of the word. I was smart but I was lazy. School was boring to me. I knew the work, but I did not want to do the work. This fact was related back to my parents via my teachers ( grades 6th-8th). My nickname was Tony but I was pinned as the Professor by my family. Like I said, I knew the work I just did not do the work. The nickname made me feel good and bad at the same time. I liked the acknowledgement that I was being recognized for being smart but I hated the fact that I was also expected to live up to the nickname. This was also the beginning of a state of confusion and asserting my independence. Discovering just who I was and in what direction my life was going. (Erikson, 1968) Today I don 't consider myself the same way. I pat myself on the back when I do a good job, but when I do poorly I kick myself in the butt. The difference now is I care one way or the other about the outcome. I was brought up in an authoritative environment, that is to say I did as I was told and did not question why.It is
Due to a debilitating back injury, last year I had to give up the sport that was my life for so long. My emotions were all over the place, from depressed, to lonely, missing my friends at the gym, I was a mess. Gymnastics was what I did for so long. All my hard work went down the drain. My main focus turned to school. My interaction with society outside of gymnastics grew stronger. However, I soon discovered that gymnastics skills were not the only thing I learned. Gymnastics is a sport that has hidden life lessons, lessons that I did not realized were ebing taught. These lessons I have taken away, I am applying to my new life. From small things like eye contact when being spoken to that represents respect, how to look at the bright side of things, the value of time, and to never give up on even the most difficult things in life. These lessons have shaped my life and made me who I am. It wasn't all for nothing. The outcome was actually pretty
Our team practice everyday for 2 hours and our record was 23-1. We were the first team ever to win in our age division to ever win for St.Mary’s. We had a hard time in the beginning of the season. One of our best players injured her knee. She was running towards the loose ball and her knee twisted. She was out for the rest of the season. Looking back on it made me better because I learned how hard you to to practice or try to achieve your goal.
