Based on chapter 9, annotation is summing up the information in my text by briefly writing the key ideas in the margin. I have to annotate because annotation encourages me to process the information and think about it. It helps me to manage the amount of information I need to read. It also helps me to decrease information by 50 percent or more, and it helps me to reorganize the information in a way that make the information easier for me to remember. The purpose of the annotated bibliography assignment was to generate a list references related to my conservation issue. Writing an annotated bibliography is the basis for researching a topic. My original annotated bibliography was rough, and didn’t meet the full requirements based off the assignment sheet. I fixed the major issues and added more of the criteria information. For my third, and hopefully final, revision I took note of all your comments and did my best to fix them. I was mainly focused on word choice, and the repetition of information that was already provided. This has been a hard week for setting up my annotated bibliography. It took me a while to hit the key functions of my research question. This is not my first annotated bibliography so i already knew the format to actually write my annotated bibliography. I also embrace Purdue Owl since I have used it for roughly the last 10 years. I don't think the Literature review will be very hard to write. It is basically writing about the key items that will be in your research paper based off you research question.
Annotation is the act of using symbols and notes to show what you are thinking while you read. When you annotate, you interact with the source by underlining sections of the text, circling words, phrases, or images, and writing notes to yourself in the margins.
In particular I would rather do less annotating than others would. It is helpful at times but not when I feel I have to be graded on it. It brings stress to me and I rush through the book to get annotations in. Annotating is beneficial when you need help to understand your section.
I completely agree about annotating; it makes organizing your writing much simpler. The part of the reading about analyzing the elements of an argument really stood out to me. Making a diagram of the elements of an argument make it easier to analyze and view everything. It also ensures that you do not leave anything out. When I have a brain fart, all I have to do is look back at the little notes I have written, and usually I can recall what has happened. I decided to annotate pages 2 and 3 from our "Writing Analytically" textbook because the contents of those two pages helped me grasp the importance of analyzing information more. Since the copy of the textbook that I have is an e-book, I was originally going to annotate them on my computer. But I realized that my annotations on my laptop were very restricted, and were not as in-depth as I would like them to be, so I decided to print out both pages and annotate them the "old-fashioned" way. My annotating style doesn't have as much structure in comparison to the techniques that others incorporate, but it has proven fruitful for me so far. To annotate, I used a couple of different items. Among these are blue and pink pens, and a yellow highlighter.
Before reading this chapter, I was unaware of the different types of reading. Annotate is a new way I’m learning to read. This seems like an important way to learn. By making notes on the pages you can easily go back and get some references. By being more of a visual person I feel this is going to help.
