My profession I dream of is a coach or athletic director and working my way up from high school to a D1 college team. As a coach take somebody under my wing to teach them the sport that I fell in love with has always been a dream of mine. Football has always been a big part of my life and teaching a kid the art of it and show them how a team becomes more like a family. Also as an athletic director it helps you get familiar with not only one sport but with a lot other teams in your school. I really love the feel of sport events just the energy it gives off you can feel the will to win and the determination in every kid. Sports can bring out the best and worst in people everybody have a mean streak when it comes time to play because everyone wants to win.
Athletic directors have many jobs from helping in the classroom to getting sports events set up to helping with pep rallies. They’re responsible for scheduling games, overseeing coaching staff, and organizing practices. While they are administrative like teachers they don’t sit behind a desk they mostly seen getting things ready for the next game. Athletic directors are responsible for making sure each team have an even amount of practices scheduled before a game. As athletes use the directors as ways to set up things in college level or even the NFL for players to move on to better in their life. When I was deciding what I wanted to choose for my major, I thought about things that I love doing. One thing in life that I have passion for is sports, whether it be playing sports or helping others develop their skills for their sport. After receiving my degree and certification I will need to find an open position. It is predicted by USNews.com that there will be 29.4% growth in employment outlook for coaches in the years 2010-2020. As stated earlier there is no experience requirement, the only thing suggested is to have background knowledge of the game. I plan on becoming a physical education teacher at the high school level. By doing this I will be able to find employment easier than just being a football coach. Since many of the schools hire teachers to be coaches, being a teacher will make this process easier for me to get involved with the football program from the beginning and work my way up to eventually becoming head coach. In an article by Lisa Miller, she talked about how coaches need to identify their purpose in coaching before they become one. Many are in it for the money and fame. After thinking hard about the question, I finally discovered why I wanted to become a coach. I don’t want to make millions, or become famous. The reason why I wish to coach is to be able to impact my player’s lives and help them become better men like my coaches did with me.
