As a senior in high school, if I was asked what my plans were for the future, I would have had a definite answer. I wanted to attend Indiana University Bloomington and major in Nursing to eventually become a nurse practitioner. I truly thought that was what I wanted to do with my life. If I were told that I would be attending Hanover and no longer had any interest in nursing as a career, I would probably laugh. I was so sure that was what I wanted to do, but since then all my plans have changed. This first semester at Hanover has taught me that I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I now have more of an idea of where to go and what to do at this point in my college career. I decided not to attend IU because it is a huge school. I was …show more content…
This sounds absolutely dreadful to me. I plan to have a family of my own at some point, and I want to get to be there for my family and go to family events. Nursing is the type of career with very odd hours. Many nurses work long shifts, which can get in the way of a life outside of work. After coming to Hanover and seeing how much my family really means to me, I realize that nursing is not the career for me if I want to also be able to have a family life. While I no longer want to pursue a career in nursing, I do still want to major in Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology. This is a major that allows for so many career options. According to the Hanover website, many students who have majored in KIP have pursued careers in medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic medicine, athletic training, cardiac rehabilitation, and sports medicine (Hanover College). KIP appeals to me now, because I have always wanted a career in medicine, but at this moment I am unsure of exactly what I want to do. If I decided not to major in KIP, I would major in biology, because I have enjoyed the biology courses I have taken so far in high school and at Hanover. With a degree in biology, I could still pursue the same careers as I would if I majored in KIP. One of the possible careers I am considering is athletic training. According to O*Net, athletic trainers “Evaluate and advise individuals to assist recovery from or avoid
In your nursing career or personal life, have you volunteered your services? If so, please describe the facility and your experience. If not, why?
In my future career as a Registered Nurse I will use math in a number of ways. For example, giving the right amount in medication dosages or IV dosages. It is extremely important for a nurse to know how to convert, and calculate the amount needed.
A Nurse (RN/BSN) is a health care professional who always taking cares for sick people, disabled individuals including children, their families, their communities while make sure that these people attain and continue to maintain the best health and functioning possible. RNs direct patient care per Physician modalities. RNs also administer and manage medication for the sick and needy population including patient and family education, basic assessments of care needs. These skills help nurses provide the best care to patients and families and the best support to doctors and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of their patient. Some nurses may also eventually attain a
For as long as I can remember, I always told myself I would go to college. As a senior, I went through all the steps of admitting into a college, or so I thought. I did everything except turn in my mom’s signature to the FAFSA. Getting ready to submit the signature I realized I was not ready to spend $60,000 in a career I wasn't passionate about. Now here I am again 3 years later doing it again, most people would see this as a set back, but I see it more as an opportunity. This time I am prepared to pursue my goal of attending collage and purse a nursing career . I feel that with the opportunity your scholarship will provide I can reach my goals of taking care of others.
name is Linda Herron and I prefer Linda. I live in Delmar, NY and have been working as a nurse for 24 years. My career began on a medical surgical/telemetry floor, but I have also worked in home care, a skilled nursing facility and at home specializing in workers’ compensation cases. Currently, I work for an insurance company as a telephonic case manager and was recently promoted to a supervisory role. At this time, I am unsure what my professional interests are. My hope is that pursuing my bachelor’s degree, will broaden my interests and help me discover opportunities to further my career.
Everyone desires to be remembered when they are gone and am no exception. I would love special memories of me to linger in the minds and hearts of those I got to interact with during my lifetime. I have always considered myself as someone so full of life and outgoing and would want to be remembered by family and friends as the kindest soul, a symbol of true kindness and love. My mother always taught me the virtue of kindness from a tender age and that it was the most priceless gift one could offer. Attending to my patients at the hospital and seeing them get well has always brought joy and peace to my heart. I would want my community to remember me as a symbol of love and to always spread that love by showing acts of kindness to the less fortunate. My nursing career has impacted heavily in the person I have become.
A job can consist of many different responsibilities and duties. However, we all have at least one job or dream job that we truly love. When comparing my current job to the job I will have ten years from now, I see several differences, such as the enjoyment of work, the income, and the level of stress.
Although I don’t have each detail planned yet, I know that I aspire to work somewhere I’m happy and positively impacting the lives of others. I think that doing good is far more important than earning a large salary. Math and science classes have always been some of my favorites, and I work well under pressure. This combination of attributes and passions I hold has pointed me to a career in nursing. Nurses are essential to healthcare and have career options everywhere in the world. In such a broad field, I could identify my interests and what I want to specialize in. While I haven’t decided on a specific area of nursing, I’d like to do anything emergency related.
The career I am going to enter is nursing. I would like to work with children in pediatrics. The school I have been accepted into is Oklahoma Christian University. This school has a great bachelors of science and nursing (BSN) program that I plan to complete. This school is in Edmonds Oklahoma and I have family in Edmonds and the town over. This is a great opportunity for me to see a lot of my family that I've never met. Oklahoma is my next 4 years and I'm excited to take this journey.
The career of nursing has been an aspiration since childhood. No one had to ask the question, “What would you like to be when you grow up?” in order to help me to decide which career or even educational to take in order for my aspiration to become reality. It was evident that nursing would be the career for me, looking back on one occasion as a child; after applying an entire jar of Vaseline onto my younger brother, my mother was swift in her chastisement of me, but it did not deter me from caring and doing whatever action within my power to help others to feel better.
My ultimate career goal is to become an OBGYN. With that platform I would like to conduct research on women and infant health. One topic specifically being the effects of alcohol consumption while pregnant. Being a member of the Spit for Science research team would be a great opportunity to kick start my research journey. Especially with research dealing with alcohol and substance
This semester holds particular significance for me because I am interested in starting my career as a registered nurse either in the emergency department (ED) or in the intensive care unit (ICU). I know the thought of starting out in ED or ICU can be intimidating for newly graduated nurses, but I want to establish a strong foundation in nursing and work with complex cases even at the start of my career. I believe this will be tough in the beginning but will eventually open up so many other opportunities for me down the road. I am aspiring to be a Nurse Practitioner as well, so having a strong nursing background through exposure in ICU would definitely benefit me and my patients in the future.
I currently have two jobs and I can say that my nursing job brings we the best reward one can gain and that’s seeing a miracle come into this world daily. I don’t consider this a job because I get to interact with my patient as if they were family and I’m forever connected to that family. Now, on the other hand my management job on the weekends causes me to stress and dislike going in daily. I believe at the end of the day your thoughts of your job are based on the satisfaction your job brings you. My nursing job gives me a financial stability but it doesn’t allow me to grow in the business and technology aspect as I would like too.
Without thinking, nursing is what I have always known I would pursue as a career. This is not me employing platitudes to convey my connate aspiration to be a healthcare professional — it is simply the truth. My determination to become a nurse is unrelenting: even after my tumultuous adolescent years, and a brief flirtation with pursuing a career in journalism, I am undeterred.
I have known for a long that my major in college would be nursing. I am hoping that I can help people recover from injuries and illnesses. A nurse's job is not just to examine the patient for complications or to help them regain their physical strength, but also to let them know they are not alone in their fight. Nurses are also teachers, they teach about medications, illnesses, coping strategies and so much more. Is is very difficult to put into word everything that a nurse does.
