To be perfectly honest I am not the most motivated person in the world. Even just to write this essay is taking a large portion of my will power. I have never seriously sat down and contemplated what is it that I would want to do in terms of a career. That is probably another reason this paper has taken me so long to start, I have no idea where to start. I have read through the outline for this assignment probably ten times and I have come to the conclusion that the goal is to evaluate and explore my career prospects or figure out a way to improve other people’s career prospects. Well I know for sure that I am not capable of coming up with a viable solution of how others can improve their job prospects. How can I offer advice on something that I cannot even figure out for myself? So I thought to myself, why not try some personality/career tests to come up with some potential options. Almost every test I completed categorized me as a “Debater” or “Argumentative”. I found this to be extremely accurate as I find myself in arguments constantly. Even when I was younger I would not be accepting of rules without a thorough explanation. Now what kind of career could that translate into? The first career that came to mind was a lawyer. Throughout this paper I will provide an overview of the legal sector and an in depth look at what it means to practice law in Canada. A lawyer is defined as “one whose profession is to give legal advice and assistance to clients and represent them in
A paralegal is an individual who is qualified, through training, education or by virtue of the experience and are subsequently under employment or merely retained under a given lawyer or law firm, or an agency; to perform work that is delegated to him or her by the lawyer and for which the lawyer is responsible. According to the www.paralegal.edu “The paralegal profession has grown tremendously since its introduction in the 1960s. Now there are more than 256,000 paralegals working in the United States. Additionally, paralegal jobs are projected to grow by 18% from 2010-2020.” So, what is a paralegal? According to the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. A paralegal is “a paralegal is a person, qualified through education, training or work experience to perform substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and is customarily, but not exclusively, performed by a lawyer. In larger firms, the lawyers can be assigned as partners and associates. The partner has actual ownership in the firm whereas the associate are usually on salary as an employee, not being an owner in the firm. The supervising attorney in a large firm is responsible for the actions and work of the lawyers under him/her. The paralegal is responsible for the litigation process. Barrister – Legal advocate who is briefed by a solicitor to present the case in court. In this hearing, the defence barrister was Jarred Williams.
A lawyer spends most of their time researching laws and precedents, as well as interviewing clients. Lawyers daily take depositions, research, and write briefs. They also interview clients and prepare for trial (Neary).
The career path chosen for this paper is a lawyer. I have chosen this career because my Mother is a lawyer and I have always been interested in her line of work. I plan to work and or intern at her office or at another law office my senior year of high school and in college. Being a lawyer is appealing to me because I like to help people and defend them. This career will cover what you will need to go through to become a lawyer, the types of law you can practice, and the duties of a lawyer.

Experiences often have a noticeable impact on potential career paths, and I am no exception. I spent a major portion of my recent summer interning at Sanford Health, a local hospital, with Sanford Vascular Innovations, a research group located within the hospital. As part of my internship, I became involved in the patent process for novel medical devices and observed live surgery, both state-of-the-art and timeless, to increase my understanding. Observing the live surgeries provided me with a more knowledgeable position from which to write a background of current medical treatments for the novel medical devices. Even though the specific medical devices were not in the trial phase, just observing the operations afforded me a greater understanding of how the device could be used and where potential complications could occur. Performing the actual surgery would provide even more insight into how medical devices are used and where complication may occur.
The literal definition of the word “family” is a group of people related by blood, marriage, or adoption, and usually living together. Family is also a source of comfort and support for individuals, and it usually depends on family, for the basic type of socialization, education, or facial placement that an individual receives. Lillian Rubin, an American sociologist, psychotherapist, and writer, observed that “the family as an institution is both oppressive and protective” when it comes to certain family members working. She makes many arguments and claims considering that family can have both a positive or a negative impact on mobility.
Lawyer is a person whose profession is to represent clients in a court of law or to advise or act for clients in other legal matters. Lawyers serve as both advocates and advisers. As advocates, they speak for their clients in court by presenting supportive evidence. As advisers, they counsel their clients on their legal rights and obligations. Lawyers, also called attorneys and counselors, can interpret laws and apply laws to specific situations, and draft new laws. Much of their work involves researching precedents, which are earlier interpretations of laws and the history of judicial decisions based on that law. Lawyers use precedents to support their cases in court. Many resources from law libraries and public documents to computer
Career prospects vary for me, as I am interested in numerous departments in film, such as acting, cinematography, screenwriting or directing. Film directing is what I currently feel most strongly about. A film director is the person who is solely responsible for visualizing the script from casting, to shot direction, camera angles, etc. The screenwriter is the person who develops and textualize characters and concept through a script to be sold off to a producer, with the end goal in it becoming a moving picture. Through this collaborative process, disagreements are subject to arise between the writer and director. It is only natural, and disagreements normally stem from the different visions that each hold. As an aspired director, I may one day in the future find myself in a situation where I would vision a female lead versus a male lead as visioned by the writer for a particular story or script. There is a strong chance that, as a feminist, I may choose to discard the writer’s vision and cast a female as the lead for the film. If a philosopher were to evaluate my actions, what would he or she say?
"The judge has made his decision, the accused has been found guilty." These are the words that one day I will finally hear. My future goal is to be a lawyer. A lawyer is a professional person authorized to practice law. They defend or prosecute people for the crimes they have committed. (dictionary.com) I am very out spoken and believe in fighting for what I want or think is right.
While preparing for this essay I realized that a majority of the career paths I want to go down involved a similar theme, fashion, and creativity. After further assessment of my chosen paths, I feel like my personality and the way that I work would be better suited for a business of my own, rather than working through a company like Sephora or Avon. I know I’d be more comfortable working in a place where I can choose which brands and techniques I use on clients, rather than a job where I’m forced to use certain items that I don’t completely trust. Using tools I’m comfortable with and using my own creative energy, aside from someone else 's, would make me feel happier with my work. Although I’ll have to work with clients in the future, I know that having that baseline will make my work all the more satisfying. I don’t personally have anyone or know anyone in my family who has a career quite like this, I know a few people who have either done this for a career either as a way of living or as a stepping stool to launch their own business. One of the people I’ve researched is the drag queen Miss Fame, also known as Kurtis Dam-Mikkelsen. Kurtis started his career as a male model in California, soon moving to New York and becoming a makeup artist. At the same time becoming the drag queen Miss Fame. While in New York he did his own, along with other people’s, drag makeup. After an appearance on the
As the last year of college has started it is time to focus your thoughts on your future career. Many of you already know what your career path will be and others are still fine tuning your choices. If you have great communication skills, are detailed orientated and have a strong aptitude for science you may want to become a Pharmacist. A Pharmacist doesn’t just hand out drugs, it is much more than that. You will need to complete a four year degree to obtain your Pharm.D. (Doctor of Pharmacy). Admissions requirements vary by program, however, all Doctor of Pharmacy programs require applicants to take postsecondary courses such as chemistry, biology, and anatomy. Most programs require at least 2 years of undergraduate study, although some require a bachelor’s degree. Most programs also require applicants to take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, prospective pharmacists must pass two exams to get a license. The North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX) tests pharmacy skills and knowledge. The Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE) or a state-specific test on pharmacy law is also required. Applicants also must complete a number of hours as an intern, which varies by state (2016). Pharmacists can work in hospitals, retail and grocery stores, drug and insurance companies and healthcare facilities. On a typical day a pharmacist will:
