My Computer Is An Essential Tool For Course Assignments

More than 50 percent of people in the U.S.A have some type of technology device either with them or at their house; maybe even both. Daily life has changed so much over the years due to the technological advancements. Technology has changed many things about communication skills, entertainment, and even activities.

From cell phones and CrackBerries to iPhones and laptops, technology has become such an integral part of our daily lives, we wouldn't know how to live without it.

We live in a world filled with technology. School teachers and college professors use technology to give lectures, health care professionals use technology to keep medical records, or monitor patient’s vital signs, we use technology such as social media, to connect with people and gain acceptance. In 2014, Gary Turk posted a video to Youtube titled Look Up, in which he argues that technology, such as smartphones, causes us to miss out on certain things in life, because we don’t use it in moderation. Technology benefits our lives by making us more efficient in our professional and personal activities.

Times have changed. The internet and smartphones were only a dream 50 years ago and now they are used in every aspect of our day to day lives. Technology’s impact on the modern world can be considered a good thing. We are now connected to others like never before. Many different types of computers are currently used in education, the workforce, and entertainment.

Most college students use a computer at home and/or a smartphone, a more compact, mobile version of a computer. Thanks to the mobility of smartphones that makes them ubiquitous, accessing the internet is effortless. Frequently, I observe students dotting all over the campus interacting with their smartphones. As observed by Clive Thompson, author of “Smarter Than You Think,” “our tools are everywhere, linked with our minds, working in tandem (p.347).” In other words, we are likely to be using our computers all the time. We use our computers whenever we have a chance. In particular, students from my writing class opt to use their smartphones during our short ten minutes break. As a Millennial and frequent user of many devices, I find that technology has drastically improved over the years, which directly correlates with the increase in its usage. Technology has become an essential piece in our generation’s functionality and therefore it is not likely to go away anytime soon. The thought of newer and better technology is usually appealing to the average consumer for obvious reasons; better entertainment, research and medical advances, etc. However, our progress as a society does not depend on technology, rather to some extent, it inhibits our ability to grow mentally.

Before, I entered high school I was a tech wiz like I built computers and fixed computers to help start my fire for interest in computers. Now that I am near the end of my high school years, Knowledge Matters has increased my interest in business and expanding my liking towards new technology like the latest gadgets and gizmos coming out today. In addition, many of us take technology for granted and don’t think about the important aspect technology is in our daily life. For example, I remember when I had to write everything out by hand in my earlier youth, but when a computer was introduced into my life I never would have went back to hand writing my papers. Also, technology continued to light my fire for interest by creating interest in the web and programs that I use daily in my life.

Americans have at present become too dependent on computers. With the invention of computers years ago, they have become an essential part of human life. Americans have increasingly become dependent on computers, and it is quite unbelievable that almost fifty years ago, many of them had never seen a computer before. Presently, computers are in use in almost every aspect of human life, at almost all corners of the globe. People can now work from the comfort of their own homes, interact instantly with their family or friends living abroad, and even socialize with strangers from all over the world. Today, my self-worth is inexorably linked with my passion for technology. My fascination began at a young age. I found myself trying to figure out the inner workings of my gaming consoles and computers. When I received my first computer, I spent months watching videos explaining the various parts of a computer and their functionalities. As I became more comfortable with my computer, I began to uncover the infinite possibilities of learning, creating, and enhancement. It was then that I realized that a computer is an endlessly expandable and updatable tool.

Nowadays, computers are emerging rapidly than never before in human history. Everywhere you go, either stores, malls or even your homes is filled with all kinds of electronics. We have come to a stage whereby everything we do or placed our hands on must be computers. We are created to use our minds to solve problems and think critically. Although computer usage might be a benefit to the majority of the new generation, the fact is that computers can do harm to the society such as lack of memory and isolation.

Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the 1860’s, people have rapidly improved people’s lives with technology. The first generations of computers started the base of computers and their system. These generations were influenced by inventers like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Steve Wozniok facilitated the computers, tablets, and smart phone we use today. With tablets and smart phone being so accessible it is no surprise that computers are not as popular as they used to. Many people would prefer to have an item that can fit in their back pocket or bag, instead of having to carry a big, space consuming item.
