The decision to reinvent myself was not one that I made voluntarily. In what I call my previous life, I lived in a safe neighborhood with lovely neighbors, a successful career, and a loving family dynamic where I was a wife and mother. I left most of it behind and moved to Guam with my children to start anew. In the month that I’ve been here, I have had some unexpected difficulties. Despite a lengthy resume, I have been unable to find a job. The decision to go back to College was because of the financial benefit of the Montgomery GI Bill. However, I appreciate the education because it will open up more opportunities for employment in the future. I have also put aside the pride I had in my independence when I accepted help from family and friends.
The reasons I have decided to go back to school is because I want to further my education to better myself as a single mother, and I want to show my children that you should never give up on your goals no matter how challenging life can be. Also, I chose to go back to school so that I can boost my son's confidence level so when he does homework, I will be right by his side doing mines whether its researching, reading, or typing papers. My ultimate goal for using this degree is to receive additional pay through my employer once I have obtained my degree. Secondly, I want to expand my career in law
I chose to go back to school for several reasons. Two of those reasons are for a career advancement and financial stability. Having this degree has shown itself to be very important in the job I am currently in. A financially stable present and future are very important for myself as well as my family. I decided to go back to school several years ago, but it is so easy to get caught up with work, family, and life. I have been putting my education off and now I have promised myself that now is the time to start and focus on this degree. I am applying as a Director of Communications at the job I currently am in. The details that this job includes, is many. This is something that I am very passionate about as well as am seasoned in. Obtaining
After making the decision to go back to school, I began to wonder what career would I pursue and which college to attend. Discovering the many benefits of being a student at Louisiana State University at Eunice made it an easy decision. Because I chose to attend LSUe, I am able to have a work-life balance at a small college that offer many different opportunities.
My reason for returning to school higher education, that gives me an opportunity to promote as a leader in my department. My resume will shine as the number one applicant when a position for a new manager becomes available. Becoming an owner of my own business and hiring people to work for me is my dream. My bachelor degree boosted my pay. There is competition for jobs because several people are returning to school and getting a bachelor degree. A master degree is not easy to complete, but this degree will open multiple doors for me if I decide to work in a different field.
The reason I returned to college was for personal achievement and for lost job opportunities. I am currently 45 years old and I have been to numerous colleges; yet, I have failed to complete college in the past. After many years, I struggled to understand why attending college in a traditional manner was so difficult for me. Just a decade ago, know such things as online courses or interdisciplinary studies programs. Taking classes in a class room were challenging because being a mother, a wife and working a full time job left not time for me to complete school. Now times have changed and I am happy to see colleges like Governors State University provide adult learners the flexibility of taking online courses. Over the years I realize how important
I decided to return to school for several reasons. The first reason would be career progression and to add value to myself should I seek another career field. I am currently a Sergeant with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and I supervise the Special Enforcement Bureau. Secondly, I may consider applying to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation once I complete my bachelor degree. Third, I believe that obtaining a higher education is important and I want both of my daughters to know that their father completed a degree and continued my education past a high school diploma. Lastly, I served in the Tennessee Army National Guard. Utilizing the Post 9/11 GI Bill, my education is essentially free.
“Every great accomplishment was believed to be impossible at one time”-Unknown. That is a great quote to live by. There are many things I would accomplish in my life. To start, I would like to accomplish getting all A's in my eighth grade year. I want to graduate high school. I also would like to go to medical school to become a hospitalist.
I chose to come back to school just to get more education under my belt. I'm a homeschool graduate who currently works for Louisiana roofing and P&A handyman services. I like to stay busy so adding school to my schedule will keep me happy. I'm a pretty short and blunt to the point guy so I know what i want and i get it so, that is the reasons I chose to come back to get more education. Plus it will help with my line of work. I worked with the flood recovery down here in Louisiana and i helped remodel houses after the flood. I have also been on mission trips multiple times to Guatemala helped with the kids and helped on dorm construction and construction on a church there. I played baseball in high school so that really taught me a good work
During the summer after my first year of college, I spent four weeks visiting my three-month premature identical twin nieces at a neonatal care facility. My time with my nieces was sometimes challenging because of the complications that came with their premature birth. Nevertheless, I loved every minute of my time I had with them. I met the most incredible nurses and doctors at the facility and became fascinated with the work that was done. Although I was majoring in science at the time, I had no idea what career I wanted to pursue with my studies. Upon my return to Monroe Community College, I came to realize that my dreams can become a reality. In the same way that my nieces struggled during their first month of life, I struggled through my first years in America. With a lot of help and even more dedication, I have overcome many challenge and now look forward to the trials to come.
I chose to attend college because I do not want to be concerned about how I am going to take care of myself. I have witnessed adults struggle my whole life and I decided this past year that I do not want to be one of those people. I want my future to be more than stressing out over how something I need will have to be off because I can’t afford it. I want the people I care about to have everything they need and some of the things they want. My mother is in a nursing home and my ultimate goal in life is to get her into an assisted living. My mother had a stroke back in December that left her not able to ever live on her own. She does not need to be in a nursing home but she is not able to live on her own. I am attending to college to make my
Single parents have tougher challenges than other students. It is not easy trying to raise babies while working a full-time job and go to school. I had no support and people told me I was insane for trying to finish college. It caused me to doubt myself and believe it was true. My babies changed my fixed mindset to complete my goals for not only them but for myself. I decided to come back to college to inspire, be more qualified and open a business.
This question is a little complex for me because I have to remember why I took that decision back in 1997, when I did my Bachelor Degree in my native country Mexico. I recall how important was for my parents and for me was the only way to explore knowledge, one of my drives as person is to find out the "why's" of everything. Attending college gave me that opportunity to found the answers and also to explore different perspectives of how to live my life. Now the I'm back to college the reasons might be different but the necessity of knowledge has been present all this years.
We all remember how exciting it was receiving emails and postcards from different colleges during our junior and senior year of high school. Touring the school on open house was exciting because they fed you and gave you prizes along with the speeches on why we should choose that school. We also took advantage of the waived fees to turn in college applications. They basically made us feel desired and unique. Little did we know is that they were investing in us, hoping that we would choose to attend their school. Why? Because they wanted our money. Universities act like businesses. Slowly, but surely they get us in debt with loans because tuition is extremely high. What's their excuse? We get what we pay for. I don't think that the cost of attending a school should dictate the type of education we receive.
At very young age my parents had to leave school due to the reason that their parents could not afford the tuition for school. My parents as well as their parents struggle financially because they lived in a poor part of Mexico and were not able to cover necessary things for school such as transportation, lunch, school supplies or clothes. Therefore, instead of continuing with their education they began to work in the fields to make ends meet. Both of my parents did not finish elementary school and began working at a very young age. Not only that but also their childhood was stolen from them in order to support the family financially.
College can be scary and intimidating. I have said that many times. Therefore, a lot of people rely on friends and people from their high school when they arrive to college because this is comfortable to them. They are familiar with these people, and it is easy to talk to them and be around them. A lot of people are scared to be on their own or talk to new people. A lot of people are absolutely terrified of change. Independency is intimidating and so is branching out to new people. However, if you’re looking for a chance to change and start something new, freshman year is the time and the place. Everything is new, and going into it entirely single and on my own allowed for so much freedom in my life. I wasn’t focused on someone else and was able to do things for myself. I was entirely focused on who I wanted to be, which lead to showing me who I wanted to be around and what I look for in another person. I now know the kind of person I see myself with in the future. I feel very confident however that I would not have been able to dedicate so much time to myself and learn these things
