My desire is to merge my passion for helping others with medicine. I actively spend approximately 5 to 7 hours a week with special need peers at my high school. Most of them need my assistance because they have some form of a neurological disorder. I also volunteer as a Small Group Leader at my church and in my community to help those in need. My ultimate career goal is to become a Pathologist. In order to achieve my career goals, I independently seek opportunities that will increase my healthcare knowledge. Last summer, I attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine through the Envision program. In addition, I have shadowed in the Pelham Medical Physical Rehabilitation department, observed a cat vasectomy, and interviewed
My passion for medicine continues to grow with each patient that I’ve had the privilege of caring for through shadowing, volunteering and my job as a CNA. Being my grandma’s translator has inspired me to pursue a career as a physician assistant, and beyond becoming a physician assistant, I aspire to practice in underserved populations so that everyone has an equal opportunity to access the health care they need.
Currently, I am working for Home Life, which is a non-profit organization that assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I am also conducting research at OSU on cartilage cryopreservation. After an arduous, yet enjoyable journey, I hope to travel to developing nations and assist those that are unfortunate, by providing knowledge regarding health and medical practices. Working hard in school and excelling in everything I pursue ties in with my long-term goal of becoming a doctor. This is due to the fact that attaining such a career requires self-determination, strength during times of agony, and resilience as well as reflection from every failure. Personally, preventing diseases and spreading awareness medically would be profoundly illuminating.
As a senior in highschool, one of my future goals is to become either a doctor or an administrator in health sciences. As long as I can remember, I had a fascination with animal documentaries when Animal Planet was very popular. However, then in high school, I was introduced to the Human Body, and it fascinated more than ever. I want to become a doctor because I have the drive to save other people’s lives.
The medical field is a career path that brings about many options and opportunities of great value. The noble idea of being a doctor tends to cloud the diligent studying and precise training that is actually required for this career. I have wanted to become a doctor since a very young age, and now that the opportunity is here for the taking, I have fully researched what it takes to succeed in this profession and various specialties of the practice. The road to a medical degree is one filled with thousands of notes, years of schooling, and many stressful nights, but the reward is one incomparable to any other. Saving people’s lives on a day-to-day basis has been one of my dreams for as long as I can remember, so the rigorous curriculum
I have been passionate about working in healthcare since childhood. This passion was solidified by a health program that offered free, life-saving surgeries for deprived patients with critical medical conditions. The joy and smiles that spanned the faces of the patients after they received their surgeries further bolstered my interest in pursuing a career in the medical field. I had the opportunity to work as a medical scribe at the University of Chicago Medical Center's hematology/oncology department after my graduation, and I sincerely appreciate this opportunity for many reasons. Most importantly, it gave me firsthand exposure to various healthcare careers and provided me with a wealth of medical education.
I hope to gain more hands-on clinical experience by examining and preparing patients before surgery and monitoring them throughout the recovery process. Some of members of my lab are physician-scientists, and I have shadowed them when they see patients at the hospital. Since all of the physicians I previously shadowed were specialists, I have reached out to a family doctor. I will be shadowing him on weekends in the coming months so I can gain a better understanding of what being a primary care provider entails.
My whole life I have wanted to fulfill my goal of becoming a doctor. I have worked hard to immerse myself in anything vastly medical related such as volunteering at my local hospital, joining a teen health careers club, and shadowing doctors and nurses. All of these things, I believe, have allowed me to broaden my knowledge on passion for medicine. In addition, I
During my undergraduate career, I discovered further inspiration to pursue medicine while founding Texas Healthy Habits, a student organization. As an officer, I created engaging lesson plans and traveled to local elementary schools to teach children the importance of public health. When I revisited the schools, I was delighted to see that my lessons stuck with the children and they were already applying them to their daily lives. It became apparent that my lessons were helping kids make decisions that had a positive impact on their health. This opportunity revealed to me that I am drawn to a career in medicine because one of my long-term career goals is to be in a position that allows me to
I hope to one day alter the lives of people around the world by pursuing an MD/MPH. However, that path was not always clear. My first exposure started in high school where I was a part of the Littleton Health Science Program which would equip me with
I have had the opportunity while volunteering at M.E.N.D to be exposed to the various low-income patients with no health insurance and do not have the privilege of Medicare or Medical benefits. It came to my attention the lack of leaders within health care in underserved communities. There is a need of removal of barriers created by language and lack of knowledge of cultures and heritages that address the specific needs of the underserved. Since then, it has become my ultimate goal to become a leader in health care in underserved communities I plan to become an Orthopedic Surgeon and provide services to those who are unfortunate and cannot afford procedures. I plan to first earn a B.A. degree in Psychology at California State University of
I always knew that I wanted a career that involved helping others. Throughout the last few years I’ve gained interest in medical field after becoming more conscious of my own health. During my vacation to Belize for a family reunion last year I saw how underdeveloped the medical aid in that country is. I then realized that I could
The healthcare sector offers a variety of professional opportunities that include pediatric, geriatrics, public policy and many other areas in which I hope to make a impact towards. I have always been intrigued by medicine and continue to gain more interest in public health. In the future, I desire to combine both medicine and public health by participating in an MD and MPH program. My experiences and education provide me with constant motivation in achieving my goals.
I first realized that I had a passion for helping people when I was a part of the Interact Club in high school. We performed many community service projects, most of which directly involved helping people in need. Watching the look of someone 's gratitude when you give them groceries, or help repair their home was extremely satisfying. At the same time, my passion for medicine first began when I visited the hospital to see my ill cousin while in my teenage years. I watched as health care workers worked tirelessly and with such compassion to make sure he was comfortable and was getting better. I remember all of these scenes vividly and to this day I feel this event was the initial spark of my love for medicine and helping people. These two passions combined helping me to understand that I wanted to use them together in the healthcare field.
I chose the career of Pathology. I mainly chose this field of science due to my interest in the medical field as well as the ability to work inside a laboratory as part of a pathologist’s obligation.
I have taken stock of myself, considering my skills, experiences, and goals. I have looked to family and friends, some of whom are doctors, for advice. Because of this self-examination, I have decided to pursue a career in health care. The process has been difficult at times but always illuminating. Throughout it all, I have never lost confidence - the confidence that I will actively absorb all available medical knowledge, forge friendships with fellow students, and emerge from my training as a skilful and caring physician.
