My Eclectic Educational Philosophy
Thinking back on the years of high school, I remember having wonderful experiences both inside the classroom and out. I had influential teachers and the drive to succeed in order to obtain a higher education. I realize that not all students have that drive to continue their education, but as an aspiring educator I wish to seek and find that drive in each of my students. The famous philosopher and educator, John Dewey, once said, "The aim of education is to enable individuals to continue their education -- or that the object and reward of learning is continued capacity for growth." With English/Language Arts as my content specialization, I will teach my students how to express their ideas and/or feelings properly and how to do it well. Part of this expression will come through venues such as writings and artwork just to name a few. By accomplishing self-expression, my students will grow to respect themselves and others. As mentioned before, the progressive philosophy utilizes practical activities and by using this idea, I can mediate physical interaction to teach communication. Group work, class discussions about inside and outside issues, oral presentations such as speeches, mock interviews if the grade level allows, and hands-on activities will help in grasping the concept.
One other vast component of communication comes from the social reconstructivism philosophy. As the students build their relationship with their community, they will possess the capability to be effective future-citizens. Along with this capability, they will be able to apply the fundamentals elements of society to help them make wise, just choices in their everyday lives. An example of one of these fundamentals would be community service and knowing how to voice their opinion as a community member when appropriate like voting or starting an organization. I can still remember coming home from school after an exciting day in the first grade. I would go straight to my room, line all of my dolls up in the floor, and “teach” them everything I had learned earlier that day. But of course, not every child who pretends to be a teacher in his or her early years actually becomes a teacher. So although I enjoyed “teaching,” I never really considered it as a choice for my life-long career.
I believe that the goal of education is to help students be able to survive and thrive in the real world. I believe that the role of the teacher is make sure students understand the standards that are set, to help them grow and to help them get through the school year. I believe that students should keep an open mind, positive attitude towards school and help those around them. I believe that parents and community members should help students with schoolwork, supplies and be involved in their education. I believe that knowledge is power and it is what helps us to survive and thrive in any situation.
The nature of students is that of an instinctive ability to learn. Students of ages and all grade levels reflect their surroundings and respond according to their interpretation. Naturally it is not only the influence of a classroom that shapes a student but many outside factors that determine students’ goals and abilities; for example, healthy encouragement from parents. Students may find a natural ability to perform in one area of education and with help may fine tune their ability to better their understanding of other areas. Students have a better understanding of education when it is relevant to their needs and everyday life.

Life is a continual learning process, which requires a strong method to develop better ways of apprenticeship. Personally, being able to obtain a higher education gives me an opportunity to be better in many ways. Everyone should have any personal goals in life in order to survive, prosper and succeed in every journey that life gives. As for me, being a University of Phoenix student, I hope to achieve all of my goals on which I have been trying to pursue and obtain through the years. They are goals that I believe I need to have to be a successful member of the society, and through attending the university I also hope to gain a more positive image of myself, build my personal growth, along with achieving
All facets of the healthcare operations managers’ job are important. Together, it helps maintain stability and financial standing of the hospital. The workflow process controls the number of employees in each department. Employees must have the necessary skills to perform his or her job duties. There must be structure in each department to be fast, yet efficient. The physical layout ensures that the hospital layout is designed to improve productivity. For example, the hospital should control patient inflow and outflow to reduce the amount of traffic in the hospital. The layouts should also include safety products and procedures on each floor.
"ALEX, YOU GOT TO START GOING, GO GET EM, GO GET EM." I yell at my oldest son as he hits the last quarter mile of his cross country meet. I love watching and cheering all my kids on as they participate in all kinds of sports and physical activities. Sports are the love of my life. I live for participating and watching my kids play. No imagine that you have a physical disability and you are unable to participate in sports. You are unable to have normal physical activity. This is the life of my other "kids". This is the life of my students. My career goal is to provide sports and physical education to disabled students.
Making a career choice can often be a tormenting decision, and many people choose a profession or line of work that may not satisfy their creative abilities, but only pays the bills. I have known, specifically since the first day I spent in kindergarten class, that my purpose is to teach, and for that knowledge I am especially fortunate. The philosophies that I support have been part of my educational beliefs and standards for the majority or my lifetime, and are qualities that, I feel, make an effective and touching teacher.
Knowledge is a very powerful thing, and to be able to deliver this to today’s youth has been a dream of mine for a long time. There are many advantages to teaching. I feel that is a very fulfilling profession. I have seen my sister in the classroom, and it greatly inspired me to want to make a difference in some ones life. Through watching my sister in action I was inspired to follow in her footsteps.
One of my academic goals is to get the best education possible at Allan Hancock College before I transfer. I will accomplish this by always paying attention to all my teachers and do all my work and most importantly make school my number one priority. Another academic goal that I have is to transfer to Cal Poly or Long Beach and obtain my Master’s degree in education. I also want to graduate with honor and with a 3.5 GPA or above. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I like helping people out and also I enjoy working with kids. I selected these goals because my economic background is not the great, most of the money that my family makes goes to the rent and daily expenses. We live in a small apartment and we are a family of five; we don’t usually go out and eat at restaurants only in special occasions.
An obvious goal as a working adult returning to school is, of course, to earn a degree. My overall goal is no different than any other student, however, I also have several personal goals I hope to achieve while attending the University. Some of these goals are to acquire new skills and enhance my current business abilities, to apply what I learn in the classroom to forward my career, and to feel personal satisfaction of finishing something I started.
“The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things,” stated by Jean Piaget. Education serves many purposes; it helps a child open their eyes to the world, it provides curiosity and determination for a young adult, and it can provide middle age adults and elders with a spark of belonging and hope. To be able to achieve these purposes, the process of education must start at a young age. Singing the ABC’s to an infant, reading to a toddler, encouraging writing and math skills are a few steps towards all the possibilities a person could have in life.
Everyone should have personal goals that evolve around anything that needs to be accomplished. I set goals on a daily basis. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. As a student at the university, I now have to set personal goals so that I will be successful in my endeavors. My personal goals are to gain personal growth and development and graduate from my undergraduate program in business
Obtaining an education throughout life is vital for not only personal success, but also for success in our society and in our country. Education even goes beyond the classroom, and it is important for every student to gain knowledge about life. In my future classroom, I plan to focus on individual student education by promoting positive learning, demonstrating enthusiasm, and helping the students to develop lifelong skills to form relationships.
As I continue working through my vision in my building, I want to continue to mirror to my faculty the importance that educators not focus on “changing” the child, but rather supporting the development of positive characteristics that will enhance the child’s future options in life. We can accomplish this as educators by holding all students to high standards for them to be successful upon graduation. We have to try to build them up with a certain attitude. (Follett, 2003) This attitude would include reflecting on the positives in each student, thinking outside the box for each student and openness to change ourselves within the classroom. As an effective instructor, I developed the ability to enhance the curriculum by continually reflecting on my instruction in order to assist my students. This has created a learning environment not only based on the students’ individual needs but focused on their future goals. As a leader, I hope to continue this practice as I work beside my faculty in helping them reflect on their instruction through observations, dialogue and being visible in the classrooms.
