My ethical philosophy of leadership would consist of different theories. I don’t believe that just one theory is right or wrong. I feel that for me to be an affective manager that I must utilize many theories to have a better understanding of how to work with my employees. However, to be that affective manger I must also understand that I will need to say “no” and sometimes be stern with my employees. I have to be strong and define myself, my values, my character as well as my beliefs. This will not only help me in the work world but also in everyday life.

I want them to feel as if they are part of the team. I must listen to them and be open minded to their viewpoints. I need to be able to respect those viewpoint as well. Second, I feel I need to be fair as a leader. I cannot be bias to one employee over another. I understand that I will have employees that will do more for me and they are the type of employees that will get the recognition they deserve however I cannot favor them in a way that it makes others resentful. As a leader I also think it is my duty to serve and help those within our work community. Meaning that I need to have my employees back and I should have their best interest in mind over what is best for just myself. If I do not have happy employees then they will not be doing good work and that all comes back on me and reflects how I am as a leader. You can either, take the bull by the horns and lead or you can ride on the back of the bull and be bucked off! The last thing I feel I need to be as a manager is to be honest. If I am not an honest person I will never have the respect of those I work with. No matter the situation good or bad I need to be upfront and just let them know the truth. We as business owners, management and or in a role of authority must set, address and comply with a solid foundation of ethics. “A code of conduct is the single most important element of your ethics and compliance program. It sets the tone and direction for the entire function. Often, the code is a standalone document, ideally only a few pages in length. It introduces the concept of ethics and compliance and provides an overview of what you mean when you talk about ethical business conduct.”
(Dubinsky, 2015) As a coach I am in the role of a leadership position. I do have a code of conduct contract in place that I have put together and that all my student athletes must sign and comply to. If for any reason they do not comply then yes they can and are held responsible. If we do not have these guidelines in place our employees will not feel safe, they will not feel as if there is any organizational structure. Basically it would be a free for all and nothing would ever get done effectively as there would be no accountability for actions uncompliant to the code of
Introduction Codes are the rules that determine how companies and their employees make decisions or act in their day-to-day activities. Conduct and ethical practices are often used interchangeably despite them are different in nature and action. The code of conduct guides companies’ actions and provide a way of engaging with the public, stakeholders, and employees. On the other hand, the code of ethics is the value statement that governs the decision-making process in an organization. It stipulates how an employee is expected to make the most reasonable decision in regards to the company’s principles.
Code of conduct is a rule set by an organisational body for specific issues that become a standard practice for all who works in the organisation or represent themselves outside of the organisation, (Marinda, 2011). Code of conducts is devised by a legal framework that prevents contradictions and builds trust between workers, patients and visitors in all. However all the codes are very important and must be followed e.g., ethical principles, and legislations.
Philosophy is "the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge or conduct."(Stuart Berg Flexner and Lenore Crary Hauck, 1993). Leadership is the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Command is the authority a person in the military service lawfully exercises over subordinates by virtue of his rank and assignment or position.(FM 6-22) My leadership philosophy has been developing thru my Army career. I have use the NCO creed as a pillar for my Leadership philosophy. The outcome of my performance is a direct reflects of my subordinates. My ideas will not always the best, that is why my Soldiers have a open door to provide any feedback.
When I think of a leader, I see someone who stands out. I see someone who is courageous and wants to take the lead. I see someone who chooses to create there own path, rather than taking the one everyone else is taking. As I learn about the qualities and the traits of leadership, I began to self evaluate on how I see myself as a leader.
When I think of a leader I look back on how many people in my life that have helped me to get where I am today. My parents are authority figures in the sense that they are the ones that showed me right from wrong. There are the administrators that helped me along my way with school and completing all of the work that I needed to in order to make my way in this long road called life. Finally there are the instructors that have shown me the ways on how to become a leader myself. When I think of the word leader I do not think of myself right away, but now that I have taken on different roles in my life I have realized that maybe just maybe that I could become my own leader.
When leading troops it is essential for the leader to understand his or her command environment and how they fit in to that environment. For me, becoming an effective leader begins with this: How do I fit in to my organization and what can I offer my organization and the Soldiers that look to me for guidance. To become an effective leader I have had to address this issue first and foremost. My philosophy is simple, know the needs of the organization, know my personal strengths and weaknesses, and know my Soldiers. This is the philosophy that I try to pass to my subordinates. By knowing these three simple statements I have found that I can become a more effective team member as well as leader to both enlisted and officers alike who look to me for guidance.
1. I believe a true leader, leads from the front. A leader is the first in all, showing the way, sets an example to all. A leader is trustworthy, loyal and approachable. A leader will support policy and always do what is right. A leader is looked up to and promotes motivation. A leader will take care of his crew, from his most subordinate to his commander. A leader knows when to allow others help and looks for innovative ways to improve. I would follow this leader and I wish to be this leader.
‘Leadership is the subjective. But its foundation stems from one thing: the ability of an individual to establish a following among other individuals or teams.” (Post, 2017) There is no true 1 way to lead. My leadership philosophy is subjective. Each situation, individual, and/or team dictates which of the 30 leadership behaviors we should pay more attention to during that particular time. The 5 personal values that are most valuable to me and guide my leadership philosophy are family, dependability, honesty, communications, and loyalty. The most influential, positive, effective leader I have had the pleasure of working with was the supervisor who made it very clear from the beginning his leadership
There are two types of people in the work field. One is the leader and one is the follower. The people in the management do not necessary they are meant to be the leader. There are many reasons that a person became a leader, it is more important how to be a successful leader. A successful leader is able to lead the team, inspire the team and help the team to succeed and grow. There are people are born natural to be a leader, and there are some people because a successful leader by experiences or inspiration from other successful leader.
Growing up, I realize the important leadership roles that should be recognized in every day life. Leadership is an important part of one's self character because when someone sees you as a leader they tend to grow more onto you so they can be like you. Part of this statement fits a powerful quote i've always lived by while being around others. "It is the men behind who make the man ahead," this quote by Merle Crowell, fits the man I've molded into, simply because I have realized in numerous ways on how my actions can impact other people's actions. My parents always raised me to believe that what you put in is what you get out. So of course, I believe that if I make the decisions to be a follower of the wrong path, then wrong will follow me as well. Instead, I choose to take the golden path and promote a better outcome for my future and hopefully other's also. Sticking to the routine of a leader builds you into an even better leader. Being a better leader, makes me a better man each day that I choose this route as the leader of my path.
Through careful consideration and an internal evaluation of myself I have been able to determine my core leadership principle; at the foundation of my leadership philosophy is ethics. I believe it essential to be an ethical leader because it establishes the key building blocks of a strong relationship between leaders and subordinates, which in turn allows for the implementation of my personal leadership style—transformational. As defined by Webster’s Dictionary ethics are: “involving questions of right and wrong behavior,” (Merriam-Webster, 2016). As a leader I believe it is important to have a strong ethical grounding as it allows you to conduct personal behaviour and actions in acceptable means. As an aspiring leader in the Canadian armed forces I believe I have two strengths to support my core philosophy. They are honesty and moral, both traits I believe help to make me an ethical leader. Another two important aspects needed in being an ethical leader are consistency and empathy, which I believe as a soon to be leader are two traits I need to improve. These four traits surrounding my leadership philosophy help to drive my personally employed leadership concept through the leader-member exchange theory. At the foundation of my leadership philosophy is leading ethically, which allows me to utilize the transformational theory to solidify my leadership principle. I believe the above named aspects of leadership are all vital to being a strong leader in the Canadian Armed
My personal leadership philosophy is based upon a few core values that I follow. I live by honesty, hard work, loyalty, and strong support and care for family and friends. Some of the key attributes of a good leader are: providing direction and guidance, inspiring followers to always do their best, show courage and confidence to stand up for your beliefs, have a passion and commitment for what you are doing. A good leader will share their vision of success with the group and make sure everyone understands the direction that they need to go in. The leader needs to make sure that each member knows their expectations and how important their efforts are in reaching the goals of the organization. This means that a leader must empower others to have a sense of ownership for their work. This is accomplished by giving clear goals and objectives and then giving them the freedom to complete their objectives without micro managing them. Another leadership trait is the ability to motivate and inspire the group. The leader needs to be the spark that ignites inspiration and passion for the job. This can be accomplished by positive reinforcement while rewarding and recognizing good results. Good leaders will always lead by example and demonstrate the values of honesty and integrity. There is no grey line between what is right and wrong. To me honesty is being truthful to others while keeping your uprightness of character. It is matching what you say with what you do. A leader will always
A code of conduct and a statement of formal statements describe and explain what an organization expects from its employees and a code of ethics generally consists of statements that serve as principles and basis for rules of conduct. Leaders and managers must be role models for organizational success. If employees see leaders and management demonstrating the organizational values then it adds to the commitment and credibility of leadership and reinforces the importance of the organization’s values which leads to employees who are more engaged and committed to the organization. Also turnover among employees tends to be lower and productivity tends to be high. On the other hand, if leadership demonstrates behavior that is inconsistent with the code of conduct then a negative message is sent to the employees. Therefore, employees may disengage and compromise company standards as seen in the
Codes of conduct are policies including rules such as maintaining honesty, attitude, and respect (Traveler, 2009) for co-workers, the organization and customers. Only by separation of personal ethical choices in the work place, will an organization succeed and flourish. It is never appropriate for any employee, management or otherwise, to conduct business for personal gain. The people who become harmed lose trust, confidence, and the expectation of themselves and of the people who chose to put their personal ethical choice before the needs of the customer and business.
Identify and analyze one leadership theory or style that you believe best aligns with your own thoughts of what leadership means. Use that theory or style to analyze your strengths and weaknesses.
