I have developed my ethical understating through recognising the ethics in internet research. I was able to recognise that referencing is needed as it is giving credit to the author of the website, article of scientific paper. Referencing also helps avoid plagiarism which is an illegal action often ignored by many.
- Plagiarism is the action of stealing and copying whole information from another author and I have used a plagiarism checker to prevent this from happening when presenting my work with the use of internet research. This has developed my ethical capability as one of the topics in ethical understudying is recognising and exploring. I have recognised the ethics behind it and researched why it is important.
- I have also made reasoning behind my action because it is ethical to follow rule and avoid illegal actions such as, plagiarism and not referencing sources which is just as bad. Not referencing a source is saying that the work I present is created by my own thought and nothing else, which false and is basically taking credit away from the author who took their time to research and write the paper.

Through internet research I have been able to make ethical decisions and use the information provided by the internet sources to back them up. This is important because without evidence or a strong point to back up my reasoning behind a certain decision it could just be my understanding on the content, while my understating as a student in reliant on the capability development it is crucial to ensure that my understanding of the capability is correct and I have achieved that through internet
The Internet is today’s encyclopedia. Information about any topic may be discovered with a quick type of a few keywords in a search bar and a click of the search button. The Internet often receives the world’s breaking news at the same time, or even before, as the major news networks. It has become the source that informs people about the current news; someone could find a billion articles about the breaking news within a few seconds. It also provides the user with convenience. For example, one may go directly to their desired article at any time instead of waiting for the scheduled news time and having to listen to all of the reports before hearing the one they wanted. The Internet is not only used to discover the recent news, it can also be used for research regarding history. The Internet may prove as a very valuable asset while writing a research paper on a specified topic on which you do not possess much knowledge. For example, the Internet would be advantageous to a student writing a research paper about black history and the civil right movement if the pupil had never heard of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Internet is not only used for productive reasons; it may also be used for recreational purposes. For example, one may go to YouTube and watch silly videos just for fun. Someone having such easy access to information is not always a good thing. In today’s time, people are careless about what they post on the Internet. Some people release their personal information like their full name, address, contact number, birthday, and social security number. Some may find disclosing this information harmless; however, the owner of this information may suffer dire consequences it enters the wrong hands. The exposure of this information puts the person at risk for identity theft. For example, someone’s credit may be ruined of the wrong person gets their person information. The Internet
In the digital age, which allows the use of the Internet in research, the lines of plagiarism are clearer and more identifiable for students than is the case with traditional research, which relies on works in hard-copy form.
In this course, we will focus on research and using it ethically. What experience do you have avoiding plagiarism, and why is that an important skill to
Plagiarism is an act of lying, cheating, a form of deception. However, it's an easy alternative to getting your work done. People believe that they can get away with plagiarism, but every time the action is done, the risk increases. "What I found is that when you cross the line once, it becomes easier, and easier, to cross it again" (Blair). Jayson Blair was a former journalist in the New York Times who dedicate their lives to finding the truth. In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed that Blair wasn't creating his own work.
Plagiarism is using someone else’s work, words, production, researches and ideas without the approval or the acknowledgment of the writer or producer, and claiming the credit for himself. Many reasons and factors are attributed for the use of plagiarism and could be cultural, historical, linguistic, environmental and educational background. Plagiarism is a form of an academic dishonesty, academic misconduct, and a digital cheating. It is declared to be an unacceptable legal act and institutional regulations. And universities, schools, and instructors do not only need to decrease plagiarism, but they must also affect positively on students writings, increase the understanding of how to use digital technology to facilitate their academic writing.
Plagiarism, what is it and how to avoid it has been a major question on every students’ mind. Sure it is easy just to copy and paste and take all the credit for the work that another individual put in, but is it worth it? According to WPA, Writing Program Administrators, the definition of plagiarism as states, “plagiarism occurs when a writer deliberately uses someone else’s language, ideas, or other original (not common-knowledge) material without acknowledging its source.” Plagiarism has always concerned teachers and administrators, who want students’ work to repre¬sent their own efforts and to reflect the outcomes of their learning. However, with the advent of the Internet and easy access to almost limitless written material on
When claiming authority over a topic or theory, it is important that you prove you know what you’re talking about because research backs it up, this can be the differences between “I know because research proved it” versus “I just know” (Locke, 1989). This is what makes the literature review one of the most important and longest pieces of an academic paper. According to Lewin (2010) the literature is required in academic writing as it provides a support and a background. However, issues do arise in academic writing with the literature review. When writing an academic paper, the writer needs to not only reference other academic articles, in social sciences the writer needs to reference the creator of original theories that may be in papers they are citing, and they also need to reference the original source of information they are using to back up their claims (Lewin, 2010). Without this citation, the information is not validated. An example of this is in therapeutic recreation the selection, optimization, and compensation (SOC) model is referenced by a number of articles in the Therapeutic Recreation Journal (2016), however each author must give the credit to the creator, Baltes (1998). If this is not done in academic writing, it not only does not give credit to the creator, it also shows that the author of the article is not knowledgeable on
Plagiarism is a act of imprinting another person's writing, conversation, or even ideas. This even includes the information one gets from WebPages, the published papers online and even articles
Patient was a 34 year old female admitted to the hospital for observation as an EMU patient on the Neuro step down unit. Patient reported that she had a tonic clonic seizure before coming to the hospital. During the three days she was in the hospital, she showed no apparent seizure activity. The nurse who was also assigned to this patient said she was pretty sure she was a pseudo seizure patient. When it came to looking at what drugs she could be given, the only drug she was not allergic to was Morphine. When doing assessments on the patient, she would always say that her pain was an 8-9 before pain medication and a 7/10 after pain medication. Every 4 hours the patient would put her call light on and complain of pain.
Two social science studies will be used within this essay to outline ethical issues which can occur when conducting research online. Due to the rapid development of the internet it has enabled individuals a new platform to access information, whilst also communicating with a wide range of other people. (Plaut, S. M, 1997). The internet has allowed research to be carried out online in different ways, through surveys, interviews, focus groups and cyber ethnography, these forms of research are often referred to as E- research.(Wieters,K2016). A summary of the online ethical framework and expectations which are set out by organisations such as the Economic Social Research Council, British Sociological Association and Social Research
ISI is operating from a bottom line perspective: the primary goal of the business is to maximize profits. Social responsibility proposes that a private corporation has responsibilities to society that extend beyond making a profit; ISI is not fulfilling this responsibility (Wheelen and Hunger, 2010). This lack of fulfillment is evidenced by the behavior of publishing an inaccurate date of launch despite knowing about the developmental challenges of the instrument. This is the adoption of deception. The aforementioned behavior, overall, is known as Friedman’s theory of business reasoning (Wheelen and Hunger, 2010).
This research paper seeks to resolve a particular case of an ethical dilemma. This has been necessitated by the fact that ethical dilemmas are a recurrent part of life. Moreover, ethical dilemmas have become a key point of argument in the field of ethics and interestingly, philosophy as well (Garsten & Hernes, 2009). As an inividual, I find myself facing moral dilemma situation quite frequently which makes the exploration of this subject a fascinating intrigue. This exhaustive research thus attempts to integrate all the possible actions that can be undertaken to lead towards the understanding of ethical dilemma. Methodologies used to accomplish this include
Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a subdivision of philosophy, dealing with questions about morality. Societies, religions, professional groups all around the globe have their own principles or standards of conduct, which are followed by their members (Davis, Fowler, & Aroskar, 1997). Ethics is concerned with what is right, and what is wrong, good or bad, fair or unfair, responsible or irresponsible, it relates to what we ought to do in terms of rights, obligations, and benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. It is not just about what the case is or what is most acceptable or convenient (Preston, 1996). In the case study The Typo, writer is placed in a head of marketing position in a small, struggling,
The internet has provided an immense amount of information that is available to all researchers at their fingertips, whether it be primary or secondary data. Secondary data is data obtained by someone else that is relevant to your current research. This type of data is beneficial to many researchers because it saves time, money, and efforts. Also, secondary data reveals what issues other corporations have encountered and the effective solutions that were implemented. Yahoo! is an internet portal that combines a directory of World Wide Web sites and is the third largest search engine. However, Yahoo! has been facing ethical implications regarding a recent data breach that affected more than 500 million accounts. If Yahoo! had obtained secondary data, they would have been able to avoid these ethical dilemmas that has led to unsatisfied customers and loss in profits.
In colloquial language plagiarism is the concept of stealing someone’s piece of work or someone’s idea. It is clear that plagiarising is unjust and immoral, however now a days it is becoming more difficult to come up with original ideas as the media allows students to have open access to all information and the producer or author must be very careful to not use somebody else’s work unintentionally and claim it as theirs. It is important to educate students about plagiarism as it can carry major consequences. The concept of plagiarism with reference to policy will be outlined and also the steps helping students and authors to avoid plagiarism in this assignment.
