Fieldwork Summary Paper Miele 1 My Fieldwork Experience Within Classrooms As I graduated into Concordia College I was already positive that education was going to be the major I was going to study and pursue a career in. With the motivation of my aunt, whom is a teacher, I always looked up to her. The only aspect I wasn’t sure of was what grade I would want to teach. I have always loved kids, which is way I have always been leaning towards teaching within early-childhood grades. Within this course I was given the opportunity to sit and observe classrooms of grades of my choice. I decided I would sit within a kindergarten class, a third grade class, and a fifth grade class. With this experience I was able to get an idea of what grade I would want to continue a career in as I followed my dream as a teacher. The first class I attended and observed was a kindergarten class taught by Mrs. Brenda Buccheri Miele, in which was my aunt. Not only was I excited to observe what it was like to teach a kindergarten class, but I also was also excited to watch my aunt in action for the first time. As soon as I entered the kindergarten classroom at Concord Road Elementary School, I couldn’t help but smile because of all the little projects the students had put together and hung around the room. Being that it was my first time observing a classroom I was a little nervous to meet the kids and spend four hours with them. I didn’t know how they would react to me being there, or if they
As I logged onto my Facebook account last week, I received a notification saying that this time last year I was a Junior Knight Summer Camp volunteer photographer. I was in total disbelief because this year I actually got the chance to teach rising sixth graders along with my other two cohort members. I must say that being a “teacher” is completely different than being a “volunteer”. As a teacher, you are held accountable for everything that goes on in and out of your classroom that involves your students. I had the opportunity to be apart of the preparation process, build rapport with my students, build great co-teaching relationships and develop my leadership qualities even further.
Upon first entering college, I struggled deciding at such a young age what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Through babysitting and volunteering with pre-school aged children at my church and through a school program called STARS, it became evident to me I had a love for helping children. It fascinated me to see how they viewed the world around them and how quickly they learned new truths everyday. Nevertheless, I knew I would not get the full enjoyment interacting with children as a schoolteacher because the teacher to student ratio is so large. Classroom demands would make it much more difficult to devot individualized attention to each student, and I did not like that concept. So
Being a teacher is always my dream and since I only partially fulfilled it, now it’s time to resume my ideal after a twenty year break.
I always thought I would be a teacher and I would make differences in lives and it would be the greatest experience in the world for me, yet being a teacher wasn’t enough, I had a need to expand my education. I decided that perhaps I needed a new career, however, I felt certain education remained my passion. I began to explore new areas of education and I realized I still want to be a member of a classroom, a school and curriculum. I aspire to guide those leading our classrooms.
Over the Fall Break vacation, I decided to conduct my field experience at CC Spaulding Elementary School. I had the opportunity to work with Ms. Sarah Ashley and Mrs. Williams’ Pre-K class. I had previously shadowed with Ms. Ashley, so she was eager to welcome me back. Over the days, I got myself acquainted with her students to make them comfortable with my presence. Luckily, they welcomed me in with no hesitation.
Choosing a career is not an easy task. As a child, I never knew what I eventually wanted to grow up to be, but in the back of my mind I would always say a teacher because I come from a long history of teachers in my family. One of my grandpas was a high school math teacher along with coaching the football team. My aunt is an elementary school substitute teacher specializing in special needs students, while my uncle is a high school history teacher. While, my father is a physical education teacher who has taught at both the elementary and high school level. Growing up around so many teachers made me think I was destined to be a teacher, although at the time, I was not passionate about it, until my senior year of high school. Senior year I decided to take a child development course where I had the opportunity to volunteer daily at an elementary school. I quickly fell in love with the students and decided that inspiring young children to succeed was my calling. It was this opportunity that made me decide that becoming a teacher was my destiny. Last year I declared as a Child and Adolescent Studies (CHAD) to peruse my dreams of becoming a teacher
Walking up to Boca Raton Elementary School all I could think of was, wow I’m about to enter this school and start my field experience. It’s all I ever wanted to do and it was finally coming true. I was so nervous, yet so excited. I didn’t know what to expect, were the kids going to like me, would I be any help in the classroom? Mrs. Vickers made me feel so welcome and from the start started telling me everything that was planned for the day. She taught first grade and has only been teaching for five years. While teaching, she was obtaining her masters degree at FAU.
Walking into a classroom for first time as teacher rather than a student, was a a very exciting yet anxious moment for me. I had the pleasure to work with the voluntary pre-kindergarten students at Sheehy Elementary in Tampa, Florida. The students were very welcoming and opened up to me fairly quickly. Although it was an early Monday morning and I was dreading getting up earlier than usual, seeing the students and them being excited to see me as well turned my Monday blues right around; it truly was a one of a kind feeling. Once I got settled into the classroom, I noticed the principal came around to visit the classrooms and she stayed to spend some time with the children.
Needing a sixth period class to complete my senior year schedule, I dubiously signed up for Future Teachers. This course was designed for twelfth grade students at my high school, West-Mont Christian Academy, to assist an elementary teacher for the academic year. Very shortly did I discover that this course would make my decision for the future. The love for children and the desire to help only grew on me as the course continued. Working with the most special group of kindergarteners, I knew I was right where I was meant to be. Spending time with the children, teaching them, seeing their curiosity, and watching them grow into young children of God, fulfilled me. Before signing up for this course, I was not interested in becoming an education
As I entered the classroom of Anum Presbyterian School, the children stood up abruptly and chanted in unison “Madam, you are welcome”. The classroom was filled with joy. The girls and boys had huge smiles and were so excited to see me. My grandma had told me that I was going to be an assistant teacher in a kindergarten class. However, to my dismay I found out that the teacher had a meeting to go to, which meant that I would have to teach fifty five kindergartens by myself without any lesson plans. I took a deep breath and told myself that everything would be okay. After All, if Miss Comfort teaches everyday so can you.
As in every profession, roles, responsibilities and boundaries are set in order to define the line indicating the acceptable limits.
the end of the week some of them could to these tasks. I also helped
I believe education is one of the most important tools a person can have in life. Every child deserves to receive the best education possible. It has always been my passion to help each child discover their individual God given gifts and talents and to reach their full potential.
Teaching is a profession that is considered to be a rewarding challenging and complex role. An effective teacher does not simply teach knowledge their students and instead aims to arm students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will prepare students for life-long learning. The constructivist theories developed by Piaget and Vygotsky have impacted on the way that teachers teach and this has changed the approach of teaching to place a greater importance on the teacher instead to act as a facilitator of learning in an open, constructivist environment and providing students with the tools to challenge themselves to develop both academically and personally. The education of students within classrooms of today is
Why am I a teacher? When I was a child I always had to pretend play school with my friends and I always had to be the teacher. My mom was a preschool teacher at the local day care center and I grew up seeing her cut bulletin boards and plan lessons. My best friend in middle school 's mom was also a teacher. I never wanted to be anything else and didn 't really have a back up plan if this teaching thing didn 't work out. In this paper I will take you on a journey through my educational years in elementary school and middle school, my time high school, delve into my time in college and then into my career as a teacher.
