Description: If you could start your internship over, what would you do differently? How would you set yourself up for greater success?
My internship experience has been really good so far. It gave me an interesting opportunity to work with a blank canvas, enabled access to the decision making team, and provided the possibility of feedback on my projects. However, I can think of several situations that I would like to change or do differently. Following are the areas where I could have taken a different approach or I would like to change them if I were given an option to start it all over.
Request for training: Though I was able to understand the different processes at my company, I wish I would have asked my manager for a formal training on few processes and systems. It would have helped me to learn the systems and processes in the right way. I spent lot of time in my research and got confused few times. It was tedious to browse through the internet to find the required details. Only few times I was able to find the right source. I could have avoided it and saved lot of time. This extra time would have given me a leverage to focus on my other tasks in a better way.
My organization realizes the importance of learning and training. Well trained employees often increase productivity and make fewer mistakes, but sometimes it becomes difficult for manager to be on top of everything in a fast-paced environment. If I had approached my manager for the
My internship experience proved to be valuable in terms of exposure and knowledge. Attending the M-1 Rail Community Advisory Council meetings were very rewarding. I was able to observe and interact with the public on their thoughts about M-1 Rail. The internship has taught me that it is important to learn how to demonstrate professionalism but courteous behavior at all times. My internship has definitely given me a better understanding of my skill, but most importantly, I’ve come to learn that I am not alone. This job has taught me that almost everybody is in my same position. Thanks to my I know that if I continue to work hard things will fall into place. Being my first position in an office atmosphere, I didn’t know exactly what to expect.
The situation that brought me from my first internship to the second one was frustrating and difficult. Nonetheless, it provided me with beneficial learning experiences for my career and life in general. One of the silver linings of interning at these two considerably different internship experiences was increasing my knowledge of two different types of business. The first of these areas was in the Non-Profit organization at PACS, where their mission is to empower individuals who are struggling. The nonprofit industry has always deeply interested me, and what I learned at PACS only fueled that interest. The time I spent at PACS was brief and ended abruptly. Nonetheless, I learned valuable and significant information and gained an understanding of the various business characteristics that are essential in nonprofit organizations.
Training and Development is imperative to the organization’s progress. Training helps addressing employee weaknesses and builds a reliable and skilled workforce. This will improve the employees’ performance and boost their self confidence, and innovation. By acquiring the needed knowledge and skills, employees can perform more efficiently and increase the overall productivity of the organization.
An internship can also heighten the awareness of community issues, motivates to create opportunities, embrace new ideas, and give direction to positive change. A successful internship can provide valuable information in making decisions about the direction of future studies or employment. An internship is an opportunity to not only use and develop industry-related knowledge and skills, but also to enhance some of the skills that are transferable to any professional work setting. For some people, the internship is the first introduction to the world of work. No matter where the skills and understanding of professionalism lie, internship is a chance to develop them even further.
The main task of my internship was to gain more experience and knowledge of our respective field. Overall, the experience proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding. During this internship I used the skills that I learned from my Medical Assistant class and used them in the real world scenarios at the hospital. Also while I there I was exposed to new experiences. Such as performing Urine test on Drug and alcohol patients. For this procedure I had to stand in the restroom with the patient's and watch them urinate into a cup. I had to stand in the restroom with the patients because in the past they try and cheat the system. For example
internship has always been a goal of mine. Fufilling this goal has really made this achievment
In my experience over my current internship at Aiken Elementary School this year has been very helpful. Mentoring a professional teacher gave me the experience of being able to mentor children. I am well prepared to make kindergarten students learn the alphabet and to help them build
The internship was a channel to direct my passion for helping others; my supervisor assigned me numerous projects that involved communicating with community leaders. One project was a collaboration with the U.S. Probation Office to reduce recidivism, and it allowed me first hand encounter on how to create policies and procedures to promote community and individual growth. This insight has inspired me to attend law schools to influence legal policies. After the internship, I continued my involvement in the community outreach through the Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and The Females' Center of Excellence & Leadership, Inc. by mentoring at-risk youths and providing learning opportunities to the youths.
Currently, I am a sophomore studying Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Nevada, Reno. As a college student, one of the most important aspect of my education career is to gain different kind of experiences from opportunities that are offer at the university. Personally, I believe that completing a paid, local internship can give students, such as myself, the chance to gain valuable work experience and build networks and connections, while applying knowledge and skills in real life settings. Every type of experiences that exist, such as internships, offer me the chance to enhance my strengths, understand the world around me, and to push myself in continuing to develop as an individual to become successful in life. For example, I was selected as an art intern for the Summer Business Institute Program in Summer 2014. Throughout the eight weeks of exploring to arts, I had an opportunity to work with a team of artists to create a mural and an art piece for two local community centers in Las Vegas as well as organizing a civil engagement project for a neighborhood that have families who are in need of financial aid. As a result, we were thanked by the families to sponsor an event for their children to enjoy art for a day. Reflecting back on
Now as I am reaching my last years as an undergraduate student at Georgia Gwinnett College, I have the opportunity to participate in an internship program. I
Each internship opportunity provided a different learning experience and helped expose me to a contrasting career option. My goal was to experience the calming yet thrilling feeling that my sisters described when they went to work everyday. On the third day of my sixth internship, my manager at the Depositary Trust & Clearing Corporation informed me that the building was on mandatory lockdown due to a breach in their settlement system and we could not leave until the issue was resolved. I sat at work for over fifteen hours listening to our team work together to solve this issue and as my boss explained the circumstances, that was occurring I realized that I was experiencing that calming yet thrilling feeling that I’ve been searching
Although, I have to say candidly that I don’t feel that I accomplished or learned as much in the end as I had aspired to during the onset of each internship.
This internship opened many doors leading to my future. This would not only help me academically and financially, but would also provide me with
With proper training, employees can gain an adequate knowledge concerning their field and attain more skills which will be beneficial not only for them but also for the success
At the beginning of the internship, each intern was required to make a list of goals they hoped to accomplish throughout the internship. We were given four categories to consider. The first area was Leadership Effectiveness. My goals here were: be focused and committed to the engagement and willing to overcome obstacles; maintain a professional approach, especially when representing the organization; and keep a positive attitude and respect others. The second area was Management Effectiveness, and my related goals were: stay within the constraints of time budgets when managing responsibilities; continually seek feedback, formal and informal, to know how/what to improve; and communicate clearly and often to keep team updated on progress of project. Service Excellence was the third area, and my related goals were: understand the why, not just the how, of assignments; learn team expectations and client’s business; and maintain high-quality services using knowledge gained from team. The last area was Marketing, Sales, and Communication. My goals here
