As a teenager, I was in a motorcycle accident that significantly affected my life. My life was drastically changed by it both temporarily and permanently. The experience taught me many things but is also one of the most prominent memories that I have as a young adult. It was a beautiful, sunny summer day, I was riding the four-wheeler with my boyfriend, Chris. After returning to his house, a friend of ours called wanting us to come over for dinner. We took off on the motorcycle to their house, driving down Highway 53 towards Dawsonville. The sun was on our backs as we drove through the curvy roads, miles of forest on either side of the road. Being on a motorcycle was one of my favorite ways to travel, it was freeing and exhilarating. Chris and I arrived there about four o’clock in the afternoon, and joined them in the backyard. They had burgers cooking on the grill, we all talked, laughed and enjoyed ourselves. It was a warm day, great for horseshoes, girls against guys we played for hours taking turns winning, mostly the girls. As the sun began to go down, we started to clean up and headed inside to watch a movie. When it ended it was a little after nine at night and it had started to get dark. Knowing the roads home were curvy, we thought it best to leave. We climbed back on the motorcycle and headed back to Chris' house. It was a beautiful, clear, starry night; the forests looked magnificent under the moonlight, like something out of a fairytale. As we neared
The night started off just like any other Saturday. Getting off work at 9:30. Following K-Art to Jake Del’s house. Sitting around the fire. Picking up The Klies and Car Henderson to drive around and find some trouble. First we headed to John’s house for a fire and some music. Driving down the road we hit a raccoon. The bones just crushed against the tire as we rolled over him. In the middle of nowhere on some back road headed to a place
Going to college to receive a higher education could be one of the biggest obstacles of your life. If it is not the biggest obstacle than it’s certainly the most important. Frank Bruni’s opening question is more appealing to the transition from HighSchool to College. In HighSchool we were all taught to think a certain way when completing any task that dealt with learning. We were taught to remember and understand any work that was taught to students. Even when teachers gave test, they were only testing your ability to remember the material given. High school teachers’ number one objective was for students to remember what is said to pass the exam. However, in college these thinking skills are not acceptable. So approaching Frank Bruni’s opening question “‘What’s the most transformative educational experience you’ve had?’” I had to approach this question with higher thinking or else it would be a High School placement essay. I responded by of course using a little remembering and understanding because I have to understand the words in the question and remember the meaning of them. However, I mostly used theoretical ideas, some logic, understood the value of the question, and finally I combined all of my approaches to see how it would positively increase my diversity in college knowledge.
We took Jackie's uncle to the airport and went to see her aunt Brenda. For lunch we stopped at a little shack and got boudin balls, the first day was just trying new foods that I’d never heard of, but they were absolutely amazing! Jackie’s grandma made crawfish fettuccine for dinner and gripe gave us some homemade wine and we called it a day and went to bed
After that it was smooth sailing. We finished out the last part of our trip driving through a beautiful little college town. The picturesque setting of “Young Harris” is what I love about traveling the backroads. It takes longer but you gain a glimpse of small town living. And then we pulled into
The next morning, we went on the third floor to get my brother in law, sister, dad, younger brother, and John. On the way there, we started to get hungry so we stopped and ate at Steak and Shake. Eventually, we finally made it to the cabin and we all picked our rooms and relaxed for a little while. That night, my sister, mom, little brother, and I all went downstairs to the basement on the deck and got into the hot tub while the guys were playing pool.
It was just a normal day out in Shady Point, Oklahoma, with my best friend Chloe. I was there to stay the weekend with them. So that Sunday they were having a very big party for her brother. Out there they have 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, a razor, and an off road vehicle. It was a sunny Sunday, as we call Sunday funday. So we decided to take a
When pondering this question, a plethora of memories comes to mind. One moment in my life stands out above all others. On the night of October 3rd, 2014, my life changed forever. While on my way to a travel softball tournament in Raleigh, my mom received a phone call that my older brother had been in a car wreck. After turning around and driving back for four hours, we made it to the hospital around three A.M. Immediately after stepping out of the car, hundreds of people surrounded us; of those people, one of my closest friends rushed over to me saying that two boys were dead. My brother, the driver, physically sustained only a broken wrist, along with the passenger. The high school girl in the back seat was flown to Baptist due to head injuries, but was released after a few weeks.
Since a young age, I always looked up to older figures in his life, the people who gave me values and a purpose. I always thought that life would be perfect and I would be cool just like they were. My perspective all changed one night, it was around midnight on October 12 I knew this because it was my twelfth birthday. It was dark and cold and quiet, I remember as if it was just the other day. I had awoken only to see all my family members downstairs to give me birthday wishes, mom was always first and Dad came second. When my brother and cousin came over they said they had a surprise for me. When I asked them what it was, they refused to tell and I was to find out later that night. I pondered the idea and racked my brain as to what it could
It was one life-changing experience I was seven years old when I became grateful for the things that I had. I remember packing for this big trip my parents were planning for a year now. I precisely recall my mother telling me to go through my closet and pick clothes I did not use to give away, I didn't know why, but I didn't ask, I just did it. As the day got closer I remember my parents had accumulated a great amount of things to give away. I quite didn't understand why they were gathering so many things and for what reason.
My husband’s motorcycle accident changed my life drastically. When he first wracked he was transported to the trauma hospital and spent two months in ICU. I was afraid that if I left the hospital he would pass away, so I spent the whole time at the hospital. Once, he got out of ICU they transported him to every rehabilitation hospital in North Florida, and I went with him. Our, kids had to say the four months with my sister, she would bring them up to the hospital once a week so we could see them, it was hard for everyone. Before we could go home I had to have my home modified so that my husband could get into our home. So, I went home before him and had to hire contractors to put ramps at both entrances to our home and widen all the doors.
It was an extremely stormy night. That made sense, because Hurricane Irma was hitting. I was heading to Mr. Boddy's mansion for dinner. I got there kind of late so everyone was already there. The wind had blown off a few shingles. I hurried inside knowing there was much stronger winds to come. The table was set. I found a place to sit along with all of the other invited guests. We start eating when the lights start to flicker.
I have had countless experiences in my lifetime with a lesson that accompanies each one of them. Each one of these experiences has presented me with an opportunity to learn and grow. There is a certain event that stands above the rest that contained a profound learning experience. This event was when I was involved in a serious car accident. Sometime in October of 2014 I was with my mom driving through Detroit, Michigan when we were struck violently by a car from behind.
An accident can happen to anyone at any time. It is so unusual and it happens because of our unwillingness and careless. I have heard news about people getting car accident in radio and TV. But this time I have experienced a nightmare incident in my life. I feel that everything happens for a reason .This is why my life has changed into a different one. Our life is designed in such a way that we have to learn various information as we grow up and we will learn by doing certain mistakes. Accident can amend your life in numerous manner: Realization of several mistakes, beginning of new sort of life, and lowers the level of quality of life.
Being able to recognize such a profound change in myself has been the most uplifting experience of my life. As a first generation student from a divorced family, college was alway a word thrown around in my family. Moreover, my decision to receive a higher education and pursue greater aspirations in my life solely rested in my hands. As I entered my first year of college, I came in with a determined mindset to make a change. To change my life and of those around me for the better. And I did just that. From a timid high school female with low self-esteem who was barely involved within the school community, I transformed into a bright young woman and won the First Year Student Leader Award at the County College of Morris.
In life we all have something that has changed the way we perceive things. Most things that change a person’s perception happens to be an experience that they have gone thru and learned from. In my case it wasn’t necessarily an experience, it was a dog that changed my perception on life. My mind and heart was opened in a whole new way. I never thought I could love an animal just as much as I loved the people in my life. I always thought it was strange that pet owners loved and treated their pets the same way they treated their children. My perception on dogs or pets in general definitely changed. Throughout this paper you will see why I am a totally different person because of a dog that entered my life.
