William J. Clinton once said, “If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.” Adversity is a misfortune to happen to someone. It can take place anywhere or to anybody. My experiences with adversity have leaded me to better myself, my friends, and my family. Adversity taught me to not give up on obstacles that lie in front of me. I have experienced times as if I was the carrot, egg, or coffee bean; each has leaded me to who I am now as a person rather than before. In the story, the carrot starts out strong, but after the boiling, hot water composites it, the carrot becomes weak …show more content…
The egg had a beautiful heart, always spirited, but turns bitter and stiff because of hard times and obstacles. I use to care for everyone, always checking on people to make sure everyone was happy, but hardships have made me change my personality and aspect on life. An experience that happened to me that reflects how I relate to the egg in the story is by the death of my grandfathers. Going through that changed my life in many ways. I felt hurt, upset, and emotionally unstable. I cried until I could taste the tears coming down my face. They were my best friends and after they passed, I changed in many ways. I do not show my emotions like I use to or even smile that often. Like the egg, I had a spirited personality, but situations changed me into a bitter personality much like the egg at the end. I learned that it is okay to have both; sometimes you need both personalities in your life. Situations may change you, but do not allow your heart to …show more content…
Adversity is significant to us in order to become a superior person. I learned that situations and hardships can be difficult, but never let them define who you are and the person you want to be. All of my life experiences have affected my life in many ways. I have transformed for the good and bad, but you have to develop as an individual and find yourself. The obstacles have been difficult, but never stopped me from becoming myself. Adversity should never stop us, but yet it should challenge us for the better. I handle adversity by rising and never settling, how do
Adversity is something we will all face. It’ll affect everyone ranging, from myself to characters in a book. Even though going through something so challenging, so painful, and so life changing can be hard, how you chose to handle it affects whether or not you overcome it. Adversity can either break a person or make them stronger; it’s up to their will to fight.
Adversity is something that many people are able to over come, most people can by themselves, others it requires a lot of help and if they work together and set aside petty fears it will be overcome. When they come out to the other side they will be stronger that before both mentally and/or
Roman Poet, Horace’s quote says, “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” I agree with his stand on adversity because though it may seem bad, it can lead to finding your true self. If one was not put under enough duress. Then they wouldn't find out what type of person that are now will they find out how they will react to certain things. Having your character developed even more so may potentially lead to a brighter future, because then you may qualify for a position somewhere you want to be.
Without overcoming adversity Jim Abbott would never be the first baseball player with only one hand.Malala Yousafzai would have never brought attention to girls education. Many of the runners from the Boston Marathon would have never ran the race again, and even never race again their life. Adversity, is hard to overcome, but ask is it worth it in the
Overall, adversity is not always something to be avoided. Once someone is affected by adversity in their life, they must keep going and work through it opposed to allowing it to block them permanently. While enduring a difficult time, people are most vulnerable and receptive, making it imperative to properly handle these misfortunes that shape
Hardships have the power to make a break a person, as Roman poet, Horace, once said, “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant”. Everyone has or will have to face adversity at some point in their lives, it is a universal truth. Although misfortunes usually have a negative connotation, depending on the struggle and how one deals with it, it is likely the person will come out of misfortune better prepared for the world. Contrastly, if a person never experienced any hardships, they would lack a sophisticated understanding of the world and lack the ability to handle difficult situations. Adversity gives people strength they can not obtain with success.
Adversity is when someone faces a difficult event or misfortune. This can affect people in many different ways. Some people shut down and give up but others grow and become stronger when facing adversity. In the short stories called “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell the characters face different kinds of adversity and find a way to overcome it. In “The Sniper” the character faces adversity because he is in a war and kills many other human beings and he ended up killing his own brother. This is a major misfortune for the main character because he lost someone he card about and it was his own fault. But, he did not give up on his own life after this event, instead, he decided to never pick up a weapon and point it at any human being again. In “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character named Rainsford faces adversity because in the story, a man named Zarnoff, who hunts people for living, is now hunting Rainsford. So, Rainsford has to overcome his fears and use his knowledge to defeat Zarnoff. So, a person needs to be very ambitious and hardworking to overcome adversity.
Adversity comes in all forms in our life. We find it at work, at school, and in other social communities. However I am more concerned with the adversities we face on a larger scale. Almost every year we are faced with some sort of natural disasters throughout the world such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, fire, and more. They all come and leave many dead, wounded (physically and mentally), and homeless. Many natural disasters like hurricane Katrina has left many people in hardships even so long after the incident. Another form of adversity and suffering that is common is the choice of others. For example, many children who were born after the incident of hurricane Katrina suffered the consequences as well. Many kids whose parents are incarcerate or dead have to suffer sometimes being placed in a bad foster home and become subject to
Of course, adversity is ultimately inevitable in life. When a problem arises, individuals are generally astonished at the response to the complexity of the situation. This makes adversity becomes a wall that is unable to be broken down. However, there is a point in an individual where their instincts can reveal the truth, “it’s part of life to have obstacles, it’s about overcoming obstacles, that’s the key to happiness.” Qualities and characteristics of individuals are revealed during the hard times. These talents that are within us, that are usually locked up to give the ability for an individual to unlock the adversity that it created. In this sense, an individual true color and nature can be revealed leading to a new understanding of the capability to overcome adversities.
Everyone has to experience adversity one time or another during their life, but it is how you respond to the adversity who makes you who you are. Two prime examples of people who overcame adversity is Victor Cruz and Iliana Roman. In Bill Pennington’s essay, “Defying the Odds: Victor Cruz” and Iliana Roman”s essay, “First Job” they tell us about the different adversities that they endured during their life and how it shaped into the person that they are today. Although Pennington and Roman’s essay are about the lives of two different people they convey a similar message of overcoming adversity through experience, pathos, and connotative diction.
Adversity can be seen in many different ways. Some people look at adversity as a learning experience, while others view adversity as a situation marked with misfortune. When a person is faced with adversity, rather than viewing it as something to hate, they should see it as a opportunity to grow. In the stories by Doris Lessing, W.D Wetherell and Alice Walker, they all show different types of challenges each character had to over come and their journey to do so. These stories all shared similar outcomes, they demonstrate how each character used an obstacle they were faced with, and turned it into a beneficial experience and how it shaped them into the person they are today.
Adversity and difficulties are an inherent part of life that everyone has to handle, but is it possible they actually help people reach their highest potential? Difficulties bring out the skills and strengths that otherwise would have never been accessed. Horace could not have been wiser when he said “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant,” and he could not have been wiser. There are many people who had an easy life or were born into their success who are remembered for greatness, but the stories of people who had to overcome challenges are always that ones that stay with us much more. Adversity is the only way humans can focus their skills and motivate themselves to become
Overcoming adversity takes a lot of skill and hard work. If you don’t try to finish, you can’t expect to win. Adversity is an obstacle in lots of lives, whether it’s at work or at school. Using determination, courage, patience, and attemptation helps you overcome adversity because adversity is just an obstacle, so it will die down, later on. Don’t give into adversity, for giving up means that there is no way to succeed and you will be stuck in a loop of adversity. Always be hopeful and strong, and adversity won’t be a problem to deal
Adversity puts people in difficult or unpleasant situations which can create very strong emotions that can help or harm. When people face adversity, it is seen as a challenge and whether or not they overcome the challenge is personal. However regardless of whether adversity helps or harms, it is advantageous because it offers a challenge to overcome which builds character.
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful -- they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
