My family and I moved to the United States in the year 2002 which will be a year that will live within me for the rest of my life. At the time, I was only six years old and I had no idea what this new country had in store for me. We lived a comfortable, luxurious lifestyle in Syria, but my parents gave all of that up in order for not only me but my siblings to have a better future in the United States. My parents wanted to pursue the "American Dream," and they wanted to give me the chance to pursue my dreams as well. They worked multiple low-wage jobs at first until they found the correct job within their field in order to provide our family with the necessities of life, and I could tell that the laborious factory work was taking a toll on my mom. I remember seeing how exhausted and beat up they were every night after work, and even at a young age, I knew that I was going to change that. I told myself that I was going to be successful so I could give my parents all the money they could ever need and they would not have to work another day in their life. This was very ambitious of me, but it is honestly the least I could do since they have sacrificed so much for me. I just want to make my parents proud and let them know that all of their sacrifices were worth it. Moving countries has been a life changing experience that has really strengthen me as an individual both academically and physically.
