I have been taking care of my younger sister Mackayla since I was 10 years old. We have a seven year age difference, and my mom often tells me that I am like a third parent to her. Both of our parents work long hours so most of the time it is just me and her at home, except on weekends. Most children see summer as a time to go out with friends and to the beach and amusement parks, etc. My summers ever since I was 10 years old have consisted of watching Mackayla. Our days would consist of waking up early to watch "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" on NBC, in which Mackayla would always sing along to the theme song, making breakfast for her and I, making sure she brushed her teeth, washed her face. I would also work hard to keep her entertained for
She lives with her mother and younger brother and visits with her extended family members (i.e. grandmother, aunts/uncles) multiple times per week as they all live close by. She is Australian-born but half German on her father’s side. Her play at home changes from day to day and involves all different types of play – sometimes she enjoys imaginative play by drawing on her iPad, sometimes she will participate in social play with her brother, and other times she will engage with pretend play with her dolls. Her family expectations, gleaned from informal conversations with her mother, are limited as she is deemed to be advanced in most areas of development – with the exception of her gross motor skills. Her mother wants this skill to become more developed as it is impacting negatively on her self-esteem, play, and peer
When picking my adolescent I had quite a few choices to pick from but I decided on my adolescent 15 year old sister since I know a lot about her and have seen first-hand how she is coping with this adolescent stage. Patricia is a normal 15 year old girl still in high school. She lives in a household of 7 with 3 older siblings and one younger one. She mentioned that she lived in a small home with three dogs, two fish, a bird and six other humans. Both her parents are field workers so they aren’t really at home much. Patricia has a younger 7 year old sister that she pays attention to a lot, they have a really close relationship, and she cares for her younger
It was a normal night for the Briceland family, moms doing laundry and dad's downstairs watching T.V. I step out into the hallway and sit on the floor with my mom as she folds clothes.I had been thinking alot about my parents and how they act and thinking to myself they don't act like a normal husband and wife.I never really thought a lot about how they acted until that day and it made me realize alot.So as my mom and I sat on the floor I asked “why dont you guys acted like a normal husband and wife.At first she was confused and didint know what to say, she wanted me to explain more and tell her why I think that so I did. After I told her she called my dad upstairs to have a family discussion in her room, and thats where it all began.
Victoria is a 36 month toddler who goes by the nickname Vickie. She is the youngest child in the family and has two older sisters, one who is fourteen and the other is twenty. Her father is a stay at home dad who is unemployed and her mother works as a full time shipping handler for an electronic company. Her mother is in her early to mid 40s and her father is in his early 50s. She spends a majority of her time with her sisters and father at home watching television, reading, riding the bicycle, or drawing. She is relatively close to her siblings but spends most of her time playing alone because they are busy with school and homework on most days. Victoria spends more time with her father but her father is distant and acts as a supervisor when watching over her when she plays indoors and outdoors. Although her mother works full time, she is the primary caretaker at home because she supports the family financially, completes all the chores, attends and takes the children to extracurricular activities on a regular basis, and is more emotionally available and supportive than her father is. They live in a condo in Temple City located in the Los Angeles
When my sister and I were in middle school, my perspective of my sister was horrible. I despised her and didn’t want to have anything to do with her due to her ignorant attitude. For example, when I was feeling depressed because my older cousins were ostracizing me, she didn’t notice and didn’t stand up for me. I felt angry at her and I saw her as an irresponsible bother that happened to have my bloodline. However, after we moved to South Pasadena, my perspective of her began to change. Because we moved into a new place full of strangers, we only had ourselves to relate to. I wasn’t very efficient in making new friends and I began to eat lunch by myself. My sister, realizing that I was alone like she was, began to pay attention to me and ate lunch with me. She was aware of my friends and people that didn’t like me, and she stayed with me when my cousins tried to leave me out on playing with them. My sister became my best friend and I realized that she was not a stranger that I should hold a grudge on but was someone that I could depend on when I was
She needs everything to be fair and complains when something is not. For instance, both my brother and sister got a computer for their sixteenth birthday but my parents decided I could have an early birthday present. When my sister heard this, she made it very clear that I was not allowed to receive any other presents when it came time for my actual birthday. She reminded my parents and I of this about 10 different times to make herself clear and heard. Lori, being the oldest, feels like she does not get special treatment so neither should her younger siblings. This thought also runs through my sister’s head because she is also the oldest. Lori said this because if her dad had said that Jeannette could bring her rocks, she would have gone back to get more of her many books. This is something my older sister would do as well. I am very familiar with older siblings wanting everything to be fair and I connect with the author in that way. Rose Mary’s mother lived in Phoenix and the author was planning on living with her. However, when she asked if they were going to her house, she was told that her grandmother had died a few months back. When their grandma Smith died, the author’s mother inherited one of two houses so they lived in the one they received. Right away when they reached the house, Rose Mary started up on her art career. Along with the house, they inherited money and Rex landed a
She has one younger brother, about the same age as my younger sister, and lives with her mother and father. While Valentina told me how much she enjoys being in the United States, she hates to be away from her little brother, as he is one of her best friends. This really made me think about my own relationship with my little sister, Isabelle, and made me want to appreciate her more, even if she is sometimes annoying. I tried to comfort Valentina as much as I could, and tried to remind her that this is supposed to be a positive experience of learning more about what is surrounding you, and I think she was grateful for
Over two centuries ago, a document was written that announced the independence of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain. That document, The Declaration of Independence, indicated that a new country was born, oppression in the New World would come to an end and new-found individual freedoms for citizens of America would become a reality. Thomas Jefferson ideals expressed in The Declaration of Independence was a stepping stone to the foundation of America. Many of Jefferson’s ideals expressed his concern for equality and liberty. The ideals he expressed in The Declaration of independence such as “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” (392), “all men have unalienable rights; that among these are life,
A couple of years ago my friend shauny was living with her mom while her now dad was fighting for custody. Her moms was a horrible, and evil person. I couldnt tell you the number of times i had to calm her down because her mom was being satan. Well, one day her mom and her dad had court, and shauny had to leave school early. I remember spending that entire day shaking, i was so scared for her. At the end of the school day, she called me crying and said that her dad had gotten custody. So, her and her dad came and picked me up from school, and we went to pick up shaunys grandma to go out to dinner. Me and shauny spent the entire drive to lawton singing our hearts out to random cringey songs. After we had gotten dinner she took me to starbucks
I grew up in River Falls with my parents, two older brothers, and my younger sister. My family has always been really close. We don’t fight very often and when we do it’s over little things. I think one of the reasons we get along so well is because we know what it’s like to not have everyone home. My sister was born 10 weeks early with many medical complications. She had to stay at the hospital for 90 days before she could come home. This was a little tricky, because one parent would have to be with her and the other would have to be watching me and my brothers. As Anna got older her hospitalizations became less frequent, but that didn’t mean they were any easier. Along with this another large part of growing up was pets. We had a chocolate
Me being four years old, really wasn't much help but I tried my best. My sister and I shared a room, she was in the baby bed right next to mine. As you could probably imagine I didn't ever get much sleep but I tried to make her and my Mom as happy as possible. I found myself taking care of my little sister most of the time if that was from changing her diaper to getting her food when she was crying. I always just thought my Mom and Dad
Do you ever think that you’re parents are favoring your sister over you? Or that they let your brother do something that they don't let you? There is a reason for this. Parents raise the future of our society and raise children to be good samaritans and humans. Parenting over time has taken great changes, due to technology and discoveries. Phones and tracking has given parenting a different spin on letting their children go and do more things. Parenting can be different for every family because everyone has different rules and regulations. Though one thing that stays universal through time and parenting is that parenting is different for girls than for boys. For the majority of parents, there are different standards and rules for their daughters
From causing an emergency caesarean section to having the police dispatched to our apartment due to excessive crying, my sister has always been a handful. At 16 years old, I never expected to have a sibling, much less attain a maternal role. Prior to my sister’s birth, my mother lost both her mother and sister, so I learned to provide emotional support and take care of my sister. My responsibilities increased during the first two years of college. In addition to being a full-time student, I also had to become the main caretaker for my sister; my parents were extremely busy working for their new business. Raising my sister had become the most time consuming but important and rewarding responsibility in my life. I tutored her, taught her English
Not everyone is lucky enough to have a sister, let alone a sister that’s their best friend. Growing up, my sister and I did almost everything together. We grew up making memories together while building forts in our backyard, driving our hot pink Barbie jeep in our cul-de-sac, and most importantly becoming best friends. Not only did we spend time together outside, we spent much time together inside learning since we were homeschooled. We got to study together and share ideas, and when we got bored we smuggled snacks to the basement and played with our dolls. As we got older and entered public school, we always made time to talk even though we went to different schools, and were in different places in our lives. Now that she’s in college and I’m finishing high school, we make sure to plan lunch dates where we share our daily highlights, tell stories from our jobs, and give each other updates on our lives. Arguably the best part of having a sister as a friend is having someone who is dependable, someone who is
One of the most difficult concepts for everybody to come to terms with is how the worst felons should be persecuted. The first use of lethal injection was on December 7, 1982 on Charles Brooks, Jr. lethal injection is the newest form of execution used on death row inmates; either alongside other methods, or fully replacing them. The death penalty has always been criticized, but even more so now with its new execution method. The creation of lethal injection has had a successful impact on capital punishment due to its many factors: being cost effective, having support of the public and government, and being a better alternative.
