I consist mostly of the Italian, Irish, Polish, and Slovakian nationalities. My last name, Hudson, was established in England. However, my mother's maiden name of Bianco originated in Italy. My mother's grandfather and grandmother both came from Calabria, Italy as young children. They originally came to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. It was here where they spent the remainder of their childhood. They chose to move to Punxsutawney because of their relatives who came there before them. When unable to find work, they decided to move once again. This time the choice was to Sharon, Pennsylvania. Sharon is where my grandparents and mother were born and raised. All of my current relatives from my Italian grandparents still remain in the area today. …show more content…
A large gathering on Christmas Eve for dinner is one of our longest lasting and largest traditions as a family. Other smaller traditions also are performed by our family and relatives. While growing up, my mother's family always had an Italian styled garden that consisted of ingredients that they would use for their meals. One important ingredient, tomatoes, were grown for their homemade pasta sauce. My grandmother would can enough sauce at the end of summer to last the family all year. The sauce was used multiple times a week, but was always used on heir pasta that was ate every Sunday. My great aunt Judi still makes homemade Italian bread along with other Italian styled meals. She also tends to her garden which she uses for some of her ingredients. My father's great-great grandfather from my grandmother's side traveled to Wales during the Great Famine around 1850. From Wales he then moved to America. After arriving in New York he traveled to Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he found work as a coal miner. From Scranton, he made his final move to Sharon, Pennsylvania in search of a better job and life for his

Though her sons are over the age of 21, Jane sets rigid house rules, curfew times to her children and imposes a great deal of disciplinary actions when disobeyed. They practiced the traditional Chinese culture wherein the eldest or the head of the household has the final say in everything that goes on. Her sons follows her rules with no questions asked. It can be inferred that she is domineering and wants control of her sons even if they are on their way to seek independence and live their life on their own. She wants a say in every aspect or decision that her sons will make and she actually can be defined as overprotective stage mother.
The typical black family has only six percent of the typical white household, and Latinos has eight percent of the typical white household. The median white household had $111,146 in wealth in 2011, $7,113 for the median black household and $8,348 for the median Latino household. This is a huge gap because of the economic disadvantages for people of color. The economic gap means that families of color cannot have the same benefits as white families. With homeownership, about 73% of white peoples own homes, while only 45% of black families and 47% of Latino families own homes. Also white family’s homes are worth more than other families of color. That inequality comes from the 1934 National Housing Act that redlined black neighborhoods, which

I had the opportunity to interview a family very close to me whom I have been blessed to know since I was three years old. The mother Heidi, who is 59, remarried at the age of 31 to Paul, who is 57, and they have been married for 28 years now. Heidi had her first son Markie, who is now 38, with her previous husband who is no longer in the picture. Paul and Heidi have a son named Travis who is 26 and a daughter named Tina who is 24. Paul used to work as a carpenter but retired when he was 52. He then began working at a grocery store and eventually retired from there as well. Heidi also worked at a grocery and just recently retired. Paul loved what he did as a carpenter and still continues to build things for the family such as cabinets and furniture.
For this assignment, I interviewed my wonderful mother Joan. I asked her for her opinion on the topics of marriage, sibling relationships, and grandparent relationships. She provided insightful answers that revealed a great deal about her values.
Abuse in today’s society can be broken down into numerous sections and types, those in which, people around the world experience it. Such forms include, but are not limited to, drug abuse, discrimination, physical and verbal abuse, and sexual abuse. Many of the aforementioned changes people’s outlook on life; however, personally, I have observed my friend’s sexual abuse, changing my view of perfect families. When all's said and done, individuals can only move forward in life, trusting that there will be a better day even after relationships have been torn apart.
My family history has influenced who I am today due to the fact that I have descended from a long line of artistic people. On my mother’s side, there have been many who have worked with painting, music, drawing, dancing, and even film production. From day one in school I have loved the arts and have found that it is my passion. Both my parents have been highly supportive of wanted to continue my love of dance during and after college and also with pursuing it as a career. Not only that, but I have lived in Pittsboro, North Carolina all my life and stayed within the school systems in the county moving from elementary, to middle, to now high school. I have been very fortunate to have gone to schools that are highly oriented with the arts. Starting in elementary school with playing the recorder, I moved up to play the flute in sixth
Many years ago, some my great grandparents came from Poland and Austria to America. Originally, they came on a ship headed for New York and they could settle anywhere. They chose to settle in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. In Woonsocket, there were many factories which required workers which is why they chose Woonsocket. Then, they started a family and it continued on from there. For the same reasons, my other great grandparents came from Canada and started their family in Woonsocket as well.

I enjoyed this project thoroughly. It was a great way to get in touch with our family history, something I did mainly through interviews. Several family members told me things I never knew, such as my lineage tracing back to multiple parts of Europe, and even the meaning of my last name. Some of my greatest sources of this information were my father and grandmother. Since my grandfather is no longer alive, my dad told me what he had told him about his life and family. My grandmother did the same with her life and parents, and I was able to greatly increase my research and improve my presentation.
Having a basic understanding of one's own family history is essential since it allows us to know our origin, as well as our roots. The Barron- Hernandez family dealt with numerous hardships, but were capable of overcoming them by staying strong. This journey of self-discovery unveiled fascinating stories regarding my own family history. My maternal side of the family consists of my grandmother, Belen Alvarez, and my grandfather, Victor Hernandez. Together they had a total of eleven children, in which includes my mother Bertha. Belen at a young age was left an orphan and was left to fend for herself all throughout her childhood. At the age of fifteen, she was swept off her feet by Victor. There is not much known about the early life of Victor before meeting Belen.
There were several reasons for my ancestors to have come to the United States. My ancestor from Ireland, Thomas, came to Ireland during a time that many Irish immigrants fled to the new world. He was likely a farmer in Ireland, and the Great Famine probably pushed him to immigrate. While it is not confirmed,
