What is your favorite meal, and how does it reflect various developments in the history of agriculture, and larger environmental history?
Pad Thai is my favourite meal to enjoy during both lunch and dinner times. It is notably one of the most famous Thai dishes outside of Thailand and can be found served in all Thai restaurants and eateries in Singapore. It is a savoury dish which consists of rice noodles stir-fried with eggs, shrimps, fried tofu cubes, garlic, red chilli peppers, seasoned with fish sauce, tamarind pulps, palm sugars and served with chopped roast peanuts and lime slices. Other than these staple ingredients, condiments such as bean sprouts, coriander leaves and proteins such as slices of beef, chicken or pork may also be added to one’s tasting. Pad Thai is not only tasty but is an example of how Columbian Exchange influenced and provided for the food ingredients found in pad Thai and the cultural perception which we have for Thai cuisine today. The popularisation of pad Thai as Thailand’s national dish also reflected how food could be closely linked to the country’s economic growth, national identity and nutrition.
In Thailand, pad Thai is lovingly called the national dish of Thailand and is commonly served as a street food or in local eateries. However, this stir-fried rice noodle dish which full name is called Kway teow

There are several Vietnamese restaurants in America that Americans love to visit once or twice every week. Vietnamese food are usually defined as inauthentic in America. Vietnamese food in the U.S are highly different than the ones in Vietnam. In Vietnam, the food texture, taste, and color are authentic because the ingredients are freshly made. Moreover, in America the spices and recipes are not like the original ingredients. The taste and color of the food is exceedingly essential because if people come in and eat, they wouldn’t want to pay for foods that are plain boring, colorless, and tasteless. That would be awful.
Have you ever wondered what people ate a long, long, long time ago? Personally, I have wondered this for a long time, but today I will tell you about them, and compare and contrast them. My earliest memory of food is lentils and rice cooked in a pressure cooker. Lentils were cooked at least three days a week. Other days we had different vegetable curries, curd and more rice. This was what I took to school as my lunch every day. As I grew older and started caring more about my social life and people around me, I started noticing what my classmates brought for lunch from their homes. I started understanding how food reflected different cultures and communities. One day, in our
Okonomiyaki started out as a cheap alternative to rice as it was scarce during World War II. It was served to children and now this trend continues and grows, shaping Japan's culture along with it. Okonomiyaki may have started a simple, yet over the years more ingredients have been added and Japan gained a new cultural aspect, Teppanyaki. Though not solely associated with Teppanyaki, Okonomiyaki is one of the most related dishes. Teppanyaki is a style of cooking and what most would call a big cultural aspect of Japan. Teppanyaki is cooking with an iron griddle

White American women viewed Thai food as a quick getaway for viewing the Thai culture as they made variations labeled as Siamese (Padoongpatt 21). This relates to the argument because Thai cuisine was able to create a false sense of cultural knowledge; much like how people will claim orange chicken is their favorite Chinese dish, they are both things that White Americans claim makes them more multicultural. This leads into Padoongpatt’s next major point of changing geography. During the 1960 and 70’s, an influx of Thais decided to come into the United States, legally and illegally, with it came the uprising of both domestic access to Thai ingredients and Thai restaurants. This brought forth the fanfare of White Americans falling in love with the Thai people through their culinary treasures presented in their aesthetically traditional restaurants (Padoongpatt). This phenomenon can be attributed to the liberal multiculturalism found in the Los Angeles area because only through Thai cuisine was Thai America able to gain

I lifted my first forkful of, well, whatever this meat is, and carefully placed it in my mouth. My eyes eased shut in amazement as the perfectly cooked square of pure happiness collided with my tongue. Never in my life have I tasted something so magnificent; so – satisfying. My eyes snapped open and I shoveled more of the gourmet meal into my mouth. Potatoes, corn, beans, and my favorite: a warm biscuit topped with melted butter. This meal reminded me of the good ol' days. Back when we had it all.

The more Asian cultures mix with America them more we take from the culture, such as Chinatowns, Chinese food, Vietnamese food, religion, fight styles, etc. We have not just taken from their cultures, but we have also added to theirs by assimilating them into our daily lives and providing different currencies and school programs along with an entirely different government system. Each culture brings something to the table. Asian-Americans have introduced three different cooking styles to the U.S., southwest, northeast, and southeast. According to Asian Nation, each cooking comes from different parts of Asia. Southwest cooking comes from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc. This kind of cooking usually consists of flat bread, kebabs, and the use of strong spices. Unlike Southwest cooking, Northeast traditional cooking styles come from China, Korea, and Japan. The tradition in the cooking is to use fats and oils to emphasize sauces in their cooking. Foods from these places are connected to their religion Hinduism and can be used as medicine for good health, and longevity. Southeast cooking comes from Thailand, Viet Nam, Singapore, etc. Featured dishes in this culture are lightly prepared and aromatic, such as stir-fry, steaming, and foods with lots of herbs (Purpose of This Site).
